Girl Interrupted
Still at Crimson Lights, Daniel flashes back to Cassie showing up. He can't figure out WHY she wanted to talk to him - what could be so important she'd risk her life??
Back at Memorial, Doris and Nikki reassure Sharon: she'll be fine. Sharon gives the arriving Noah a big hug, while Vikki takes her place behind her Mom. Vic too gets a grateful hug: thank you. Liv reports the ambulance has arrived; I'll let you know when I have her stabilized.
Nick is relieved they found Cassie, and with a hug, tells Noah that his sister's hanging in there. In private, Nick avoids answering Sharon's questions (How WAS she at the coffee house??) He thinks the important thing is that they found her - she's gonna make it!
Vic announces a well renowned specialist is on his way. Nikki and Nick are glad Vikki's there - and has taken Noah down for ice cream. Now seated with his Mom, Nick flashes back to the first time Cassie called him Daddy (Wow - I finally have a real Dad. I can't believe it - I'm gonna be Cassie Newman. Thank you Mommy - and thank you ...Daddy). I don't think any words ever meant so much to me, Nick says. She's a special girl - and lucky to have you as a father, Nikki replies. Nick can't imagine a father loving a daughter more than he loves Cassie. You ARE her father, Nikki assures. She WILL make it!
Nick thanks his father for coming through for him today. I'll always be there for you my boy, Vic promises. That's the thing about Newman's - at the end of the day we're there for one another.
All jump up as Cassie's gurney is wheeled by. Mommy's right here, Sharon wails - they all watch in fear. She needs to feel my energy - my love, Sharon insists. We all want to be by her side - but we have to let the DR's do what they need to, she's told by Nick: Spend some time with Noah - if he sees you like this, he'll get scared. Sharon gathers herself and sits Noah down for a chat. Mom - are you crying? Why? Because Cassie is really sick, Sharon admits. Is she gonna die? Noah's lip trembles. No your sister will make it, Sharon assures. I'm scared, Noah whimpers as he hugs his Mom. Back at Crimson Lights, JT and Paul discuss Cassie Newman. Chris tells Daniel that she's called Phyllis - and wants to know exactly what went on.
Soon after, Chris thanks Paul for the coffee - Daniel's like a son to me. It's like a train wreck in slow motion. Those poor kids. How could he have gotten himself into this situation? Daniel and Lily join them - what happens next? What if she dies? Chris assures she won't abandon him - you have support from us. Phyllis arrives in time to agree - and get a big hug from Daniel.
Chris proposes Daniel stay with her - the media are going to go wild. Reporters will be on the doorstep. Think about the strain on the Abbott family - John just got out of the hospital. Chris has underground parking. Phyllis flatly refuses - and Daniel knows the paparazzi will find a way in anyway. Phyllis and Chris head off to discuss it - Paul goes to make some calls. Lily asks Daniel how he's holding up - we still have our plan, right?
Chris and Phyllis argue - you're NOT taking my son away from me. Chris worries he'll take off - he needs someone to watch him 24/7. I can't defend him if he's not here. Reassure him he's not going to jail then, Phyllis retorts. Chris can't - there's a good chance he will. I'm not trying to take your son away. Chris can work from home. Phyllis has heard that before. So - how long? You can visit whenever you want, Chris offers. Phyllis won't let her play Mommy. Think of your son for a change! Chris orders.
Paul tells Chris there's no change in Cassie's condition. Phyllis is in the bathroom. I HOPE I got through to her. Sure you want to go through with this? he asks. Chris wants to keep Daniel safe. Yes it will take a toll. Chris admits Phyllis DID get to her - and gives him a hug: You're always there for me, aren't you. Back on the patio, Daniel is sick of having his picture in the paper. But if you stay with Chris, our plan is off, Lily implores: WE need to stick together. Are you with me? It's getting way out of control, Daniel says in frustration.
Phyllis asks for a moment alone with her son. What are you doing with Lily - you want more trouble? What's going on? Daniel asks: Am I staying at Chris' now? Phyllis thinks it for the best. Tonight or what? Pack tonight - she'll come for you in the morning. Chris encourages him to stay positive. Are we done here? Chris and Paul go to grab something to eat - see you in the morning. Phyllis has a few things to talk to Daniel about. Lily watches and worries.
Big Mac Attack
Back inside Crimson Lights, JT hands Kay some sugar. I don't see you around here much. You don't see a lot of things, JT - Kay replies pointedly. She isn't following JT or anything - but would like to know about him: hobbies etc. Mac thinks you have a special charm. JT hopes she's not there to 'mess' with him. Why would you think that? Kay wonders - I'm here to tell you a story. She relays her boat trip she once took to Europe - I met a young painter. I decided I was going to give him something interesting to paint. We ran into each other constantly - aware of how we felt. We never approached one another. You're saying you should have been honest with one another? JT concludes. Did Mac ask you to have this talk with me? No, Kay swears. JT doesn't know what to say. You really don't, do you? Kay chuckles. Sometimes fresh air is good for a person - stop by for a swim. Kay's said what she came to say - good night Jeffrey Todd. JT's left to think.
Poolside, Mac's startled when JT does a big cannonball into the pool. JT - what are you doing here? Don't be all upset and stuff, JT gets out to tell her - it'll give me an idea to do something. He gives her a push into the pool. Once she's out, he agrees: she shouldn't settle for something she doesn't want (and JT can't change who he is). Conversation not going well, JT still has time to work out at the gym. By all means - hurry, Mac suggests: It was sweet of you to come - even if it was my Grandma's doing. I'll see ya, JT leaves behind a very sad looking Mac.
Post work out, J T returns for the loft, and is surprised to find Mac there - how was your work out? She's not sure why she's there - but would like to stay a while. Proving her point, she gives him a kiss.
Reelin' Em In
At the club, Gina greets the new man in town: Tom. Nice to meet you, she extends a hand and introduces herself as the manager. Drop by and see me when you're in town, she smiles: It's a great club, you're gonna love it. I will love it, Tom says to himself. Well, well, well - he smiles as he see Ashley arrive. Told by Gina that Paul's not there yet, Ash approaches Tom: I see you've taken a liking to the place. Ashley, right? Yes - and you're Tom. Mind if I join you? Please do, he smiles - then sips his iced tea.
Tom thinks her father a lucky fellow to have so many people to care about him - a lovely wife. Oh - that's off the table, he remembers (as Ash noticeably stiffens). He just figures a man and his woman belong together - I'm a romantic at heart. He's going smelt fishing - and wonders if a pretty lady like her would care to join him - bet you've never been fishing in your life.
Of course Ash has been fishing - once. Tom invites her again to join him. Night is the best time. Start a little fire to keep warm. Dip the fish in batter and fry them right up - wash em down with beer. Real fishing has nothing to do with fish - it's about getting to know someone. He doesn't need a license. As if any cop's gonna stop a knock out like you from fishing. It's a beautiful night. Ash has to pass. Yes - I have plans. But even if not - I'm not sure I'd want to spend my evening fishing.
Ash gets a call from Paul - he won't be abel to make it - let's reschedule. Ash is understanding - goes with the territory. Is that fishing gig still open by any chance? she asks after hanging up. Tom's grin implies it is.
Girl Interrupted (contn'd)
Doris takes Sharon's hand. She'll be all right Vic and Nikki tell one another. A grave faced Liv comes out to face the expectant Newman gathering. Infection's got a hold of her - we're giving antibiotics -and pain medication. She's in a fog. The important thing is to remember she's not in any pain. I think the family should go in and see her - the WHOLE family.
Vic pauses to speak to Liv as the rest file into Cassie's room: You know there's specialists on the way - make sure they get to her as soon as they get in - this is my granddaughter - you do everything in your power to save her.
Come on Cassie - fight, Sharon encourages by her bedside - as all watch on tearfully. A grim faced Nick flanks the other side of her bed.
My Thoughts
Today's show rates a 9 ... Grab your hankies - today's show is sure to leave a lump in your throat if not tears in your eyes. The best cryers in daytime - and the imminent death of a girl we've watched grow up. It'd be nice to have Heather Tom back - but the Vikki recast is more than holding her own .... What the heck is Ash thinking - going fishing with the smarmy Tom ... And was Gina's dish of the day has got to be 'desperation.... It almost seems as if Lily is trying to keep Daniel all to herself - not protect him from going to prison .... Why couldn't Chris go the extra step and offer Phyllis her couch to sleep on? It's not like it's long term ... If the media is such a problem - where the heck are they tonight? They don't have anyone posted at memorial - or the coffee house.... Since it was mentioned that the Abbott's are always in the news anyway - why was there no mention of repeat hero Kevin saving John's life?? And how are the Abbott's in the news for 'good things' - like what? Their near bankruptcy? The pool house fire? Daughter in law Phyllis' numerous arrests? Did Ash make the front page of the society section when she attended the gala in her housecoat? What the heck had Mac planned to do? Lounge by the pool and catch a tan? It's not quite that warm yet (to strut about in a bikini after dark) - but hey - nice excuse to see JT's ripped abs (still think he could use some of that cake though).
For those who were members of the message boards - and therefore, no doubt, a friend of 'Leafy's' - Amy Kay has created a very touching tribute. http://dump.grendosa.com/Leafy.wmv . Just added: my own eulogy or sorts. My thoughts: From the heart - Leafy.
Next: You didn't know I could kiss like that? Mac smiles. There's a lot of things I don't know about you, JT admits...Malcolm questions Lily: He's gonna run isn't he?....Fever's not going down is it? Vic asks Liv. I'm sorry, she replies...
