Newman Nitwits
Stammering awkwardly, Connie's surprised Nick's back in his office so soon... after.... Everyone would understand - and Mr Winters is working very hard. Nick cuts her off to talk about the Jefferson deal. How's your father? Connie asks on her way out. Nick looks at Vic's portrait - I can do this Dad - I can do this.
At the ranch, Nikki and Vic discuss the tension in the air at Nick and Sharon's. Nikki doesn't approve of him offering to help - You know how he is - determined not to let you dominate him. He's worried you'll take the company from him. Vic stands by his decision to offer help to his son when he needs it. All Nikki can do is purse her lips and utter a resigned sigh.
Arriving at the athletic club, Vikki immediately spots Mike and takes a seat. We owe it to ourselves to lighten up a bit. Neither have any good jokes to share - but manage to share a laugh anyway. Looking thoroughly entertained by Mikey's court story, Vikki wonders why she ever let him go - but has to admit he and Lauren make a good couple. The good ones are always taken. She (wrongly) assumes he doesn't have as much fun with her and seems disappointed to learn they're getting married. Recovering quickly, Vikki hopes Lauren knows what a gem he's getting - and promises not to bad mouth his bried. Friends - forever.
While Nick's slightly muddled on details of the Jefferson deal, he says he's good and will let Connie know if he needs anything - thanks. Connie leaves and passes Brad in the door. What are you doing here? Nick wonders. Brad was about to ask the same question. Nick thinks it cool that he stopped by - but he's busy. Brad feels Nick should be home with his wife and son - under the tragic circumstances. You just buried your daughter, he reminds. Nick makes it clear that Brad's opinion is not welcome - but once alone, is unable to focus on the Jefferson deal. With a look at Cassie's photo, Nick hurries out.
Nick arrives at the ranch, and while Nikki goes to get Victor (as requested), looks at the collage of Cassie's photos. When Vic joins him, he confesses that he was wrong. I need help - your help. He's not able to function the way he needs to right now. Vic readily agrees and makes it clear that it's temporary - I'll be there tomorrow. How about that, Nikki and Victor are left to ponder.
Who's Playin' Who?
Geeta has to be honest - she'd love go back home and make everyone jealous with a handsome American man on her arm. Kevin's down for that - what's your favourite thing to do? What I'm thinking about doing right now with you. Grinning, Kevin likes to do that too. Spotting Mac, Kevin calls her over and makes introductions. Geeta moves closer to Kevin and wraps and arm around him as she tells Mac she loves this country - and hopes she'll be staying forever. Glum Mac 'guesses' JT's at the loft. And you're here alone? Kevin makes a point. Nice to meet you, Mac says as she moves on. That girl did not seem happy, Geeta decides: was she your girlfriend? No - not really, Kevin says. Is it OK if I kiss you in here? Geeta asks before laying one on the willing Kevin. She thinks he should get an apartment - it'd be more private. Soon, it's time for her to get back to the Abbott's to take care of John. She suggests he doesn't come by the house. I'll call you tomorrow.
On the patio, Mac updates Brit that she's back living at the loft. I'll be darned - he actually did it - convinced you to move back in. Mac disagrees: I did it on my own. Brit's not impressed one bit that JT kissed Mac (not like he's picky). She doesn't think JT and Mac are a good pairing - he's too fast. Mac disagrees: that's what Kevin says too. You think I need protection? I should 'grow up' - and marry a man twice my age and get pregnant? Mac sure isn't ready for that! Shut up, Brit snaps. They agree it's been a bad day - let's not bring each other down.. But are soon at it again. When Brit calls Mac a bitch and leaves, Mac says to herself that's practically a compliment (coming from HER).
Back home,Gloria takes a call from immigration services. Of course she'll relay a message to Geeta. Her application has been denied - what a shame. I'll be sure to tell her. Too bad. Thanks for calling. Gloria then calls Kevin's cell. Hearing Geeta's not with him, she'll be right over.
Arriving, Gloria wastes little time announcing that Geeta's visa extension was denied - one of the few conditions she'd be able to stay is if she marries an American. YOU are her back up plan. If she can make you think she has feelings for you in 2 days - imagine what she could do with John. He's who she really wants. Kevin is skeptical he's being conned (he's never had a woman react to him that way) then shocked to realize Geeta's been using him (playing me for a fool). Gloria can't allow her 2 months to play her games. You're a trusting sole - it's not your fault. How could she do this to me? Kevin whines: No - he won't hurt her. My sweet, sweet Geeta - wouldn't dream of it - but two can play at that game. I'll take care of Geeta Mom - don't you worry.
At the Abbott home, the devious Geeta isn't overly surprised (knowing Kevin wouldn't let her down). She fakes surprise and disapproval: I told you not to come. Kevin seems not to care if Mr Abbott will be mad - it's the danger. He wants the beautiful Geeta to know how much he wants her. You're the one I've been waiting for all my life. Hope you don't think I'm rushing things. Really? Yes - he means it with all his heart. Geeta wraps her arms around him and smiles - satisfied.
The Blame Game
The depressed Sharon is at loose ends at home - eyes red and weepy as she looks at photos of Cassie. She gives Brad a warm welcome and is pleased that he seems to agree that Nick should be home with her - not at the office. Sure, she's tried to tell Nick how she feels, but he's unresponsive. She's disappointed to realize that they aren't bonding over their shared grief. We need to get through this as a family. When Sharon then confides that it was Nick who allowed Cassie out that night (over her protests), Brad suggests Nick might be wrestling with guilt. For the first time, Sharon considers it too, and sends Brad off with a grateful hug: you've helped more than you realize.
Soon after, Nick returns home and explains how he was unable to focus on work - and has asked his Dad to help. Sharon approves - it's the right thing to do. But it's not your brain that's damaged - it's your heart. We're going through the same thing (Nick knows that). It's not just grief - it's the guilt we both feel. We let her go out that night. If Cassie had stayed home, she'd still be with us today. I didn't think it was a good idea - remember. Astounded, Nick can hardly believe what he's hearing: Are you trying to blame me for what happened? Make Cassie's death my fault?
My Thoughts
Today's show rates a 7 ... Not much to think about today - not the most exciting show I'm afraid. Kevin is most comical in his puppy like enthusiasm over Geeta (this could be a true test of how reformed he is - cause we all know what the old Kevin would have done) .... If Vikki thinks Mikey had more fun with her, she needs a reality check. To the best of my recollection, they barely had a couple of dates. Mike may not have had many romances - but he HAS had his share of fun (who can forget the time oldPhyllis showed up in black leather - with whips and chains!) ... It's not right, by any stretch, but not surprising that Sharon might subconsciously blame Nick. Perhaps he should have stayed home for a few days - it's not like the Jefferson deal can't wait ...
Next: Geeta beams: you see a future for us? Kevin sure does: an amazing future... Nick disagrees with Sharon that Daniel's partly responisible... He's completely responsible ... Chris informs Phyllis that if Daniel doesn't show up at 08:00 sharp, he'll be considered a fugitive.
For those who were members of the message boards - and therefore, no doubt, a friend of 'Leafy's' - Amy Kay has created a very touching tribute. http://dump.grendosa.com/Leafy.wmv . Just added: my own eulogy or sorts. My thoughts: From the heart - Leafy.
