Scavenger Hunt
Stop doggin' me - we're on the same team, Malcolm whines to the (as usual) hostile Dru. Devon arrives in time to get more attitude from Devon - I need to talk to you, she says as she herds him out to the terrace. Devon has sent out some job applications and used Dru as a reference - hope that's OK. What? Dru's distracted.
Sharon arrives and chats with Malcolm - Noah played in his first all star game today - he's spending the night at a friends. This was one of Cassie's favourite hang outs - Makes me feel closer to her. I just had to get out of the house, she admits - the house is so empty - I should put her things away - but can't. Malcolm thinks she'll know when she's ready. Sharon's not sure how to move on - I wish I could share my feelings with Nick - but he's off chasing Daniel. He needs justice - I don't think there IS justice - I just pray I can learn to accept it. She worries about the distance between her and Nick - and has nothing to keep her busy. Just a bunch of memories and a broken heart. I'm tired of getting up in the morning not knowing how to fill my time - the days are endless. You DO have someone to share your grief with, Malcolm encourages: me. If I can do anything.... Sharon's embarrassed and apologetic, but Malcolm knows she needs to talk with her friends.
If you're gonna be calling the cops - do it someplace else, Brendan insists. Phyllis, I let you into my crib and now they want to bring the cops here. Danny said you were nothing but trouble - I want you out of my house now. Neil doesn't want to cause him any trouble. Get the hell out of my house, Brendan repeats. You're our only connection - we won't call the cops if you don't want, Phyllis assures. I have your word? He asks them in turn - what about you? He eyes the surly Nick.
I feel your pain but I don't want the cops poking around my place, Brendan reiterates. You have something to hide? Nick cracks. He agrees no police - but thinks Phyllis might be playing games. Phyllis has given up on trying to change his mind. Maybe the kids got stoked by the beach, Brendan suggests: go see if they're down there. Phyllis will go - so will Nick. Neil gives them a photo of Lily and promises Brendan he won't call police (while he's up taking a shower).
Lily and Daniel set themselves up for as night on the beach. I'll try calling Brendan in the morning - and you'll be on your way home. He cuddles her to keep her warm, then decides to go get firewood. Lily pleads not to be sent home - I don't want it to end - ever.
As they pile firewood, Daniel once again makes a case for Lily going home. Tomorrow I'll call your parents and they'll send the money to get you back home. No, Lily points out: cause then they'll know exactly where you are. Lily plans to get a job and earn the money to go back home - then they won't know where you are, she points out. Lily takes over Daniel's unsuccessful efforts to light the fire. See - you can't survive without me, she boasts as the fire ignites, and the pair snuggle up and kiss by the fire.
Back at Brendan's, Neil sees there's a message on the phone and calls up to him. Mind if I listen? From the shower, Brendan shouts down permission. Thanks, Neil shouts back - then listens to message #1) Hey Brendan it's Daniel Romalotti. It's been a while - you said if I ever came to LA I could crash at your place - I'm hoping the offer's still good. #2) We're headed straight to your place... And then #3) I'm Daniel's friend Lily - we're on the beach. We really wanna come by - we don't have cell phone, so we'll keep trying. With any luck you'll be home soon - bye.
A distracted Dru eyeballs Malcolm: I hope he's not telling Sharon where Lily is. As Malcolm takes orders from a trio of girls, Sharon watches them before approaching: Hi Ally. How's your summer going so far? she asks brightly. The girls look at one another and down at the floor - clearly uncomfortable. Summer school's not the same without Cassie - I really miss her, Ally confides. When Sharon asks if there's any cute lifeguards at the wake, Ally says there is - Cassie'd be so embarrassed. She then shares the story of a fish swimming up Cassie's bathing suit - she danced around right in front of this guy - it was really funny. I miss you girls, Sharon smiles: I wish you'd stop by the house some time. You meant everything to Cassie. I miss her so much Mrs Newman, Ally sniffles. Me too, Sharon hugs her.
Phyllis and Malcolm enter a restaurant called the Sunset and show the waiter on duty photos of the kids. Yeah - they were here a few hours ago but didn't say where they were going, he reports. Phyllis is pumped (as it proves they're close - AND that she wasn't lying). I know they're going to Brendan's! Neil and I have been talking: we can take it from here - find my son and his daughter. Your wife and son need you. Nick can't go home until this is over. We'll bring Daniel home, Phyllis promises. Nick refuses to leave til Daniel's on a plane back home.
Back on the CL's terrace - When Devon wonders if he can get a summer job at NE, Dru (who's just apologized for not having as much time for him) completely ignores him and answers her cell. They're here in LA, Neil tells her. Lily left a message on Brendan's machine - they're on the beach together. Dru recalls being on the streets - it's dangerous. Neil's sure everything will be fine. Malcolm pops his head around to ask: Is that Neil? Did he find Lily? Dru tries to convince Neil to let her join him in LA. Devon's 17 - Malcolm can watch him - right? she looks at Malcolm. What about NE? Neil asks. Dru doesn't give a damn. What if Lily calls and you're not there? he maintains: Stay put. No - Neil hasn't called the police - it's complicated. Promise me you'll at least give the police a picture - and don't trust Phyllis! Dru warns
Malcolm grabs the phone - what is going on? I can catch the red eye and be there in the morning. Neil tells him not to - he's trying to stay cool. But between you and me, I'm scared - LA's not a place for my little girl. Daniel's looking after her, Malcolm assures. But Neil finds little comfort in that.
Nick appeals to Phyllis: You can't imagine what it's like having your life turned upside down. I was working at NE - worried about not spending enough time with my kids. Now, I have this rage inside me. Phyllis understands but worries Nick won't be able to hold himself back. Nick's only salvation is having Daniel pay for what he's done - without that I have nothing.
Shooting Fish in A Barrel
An excited Kevin speaks to Gloria on Mike's phone: Mom - Michael is anxious to talk to you - he'll explain everything - he's got it all figured out. Gloria gets no info from Kevin. ell him I'll be home soon - bye Kevin - they hang up.
Nice to meet you, Tom grimaces at Mike - who's been invited into the Abbott living room. We've met before, Mike reminds him. Tom doesn't remember. You're new in town - how lucky to have met one of GC's most prominent citizens - have you met Ashley's father? Mike prods. He's working late. Mike is Gloria's son, Ash explains. Tom's been helpful - told me to take a look at my attitude towards Gloria. He cast a spell on you, Mike jokes. No - if Gloria makes my father happy - so be it. Best thing kids can do for their parents is to let them make their own choices, Tom says pointedly. Mike declines a drink: Let Gloria know I dropped by. We'll walk out together? he hints to Tom, No - I'm gonna stick around for a while. he replies. At the door, Ash tells Mike she'll call Lauren - we'll have dinner. Looking forward to it, Mike smiles as he exits. Is it me or was there some strange macho vibe going on between the two of you? Ash asks Tom. Outside, Mike punches numbers into his phone, then hangs up. No - just a couple of guys checking each other out, Tom shrugs it off. Ash hears a car door - that must be Gloria. Tom would rather meet her father first - let him form his own opinion. Is there a back way out? I'll call ya. Hello.... Gloria wrestles her way through the front door with a huge box. Ash tells her Michael dropped by - anything going on? No more Fisher family secrets?? No, Gloria laughs. If John gets home, tell him I'll be right back, Gloria asks as she leaves.
Back at the law firm. Kevin is stunned by Mike's update: Tom and Ashley Abbott? I don't believe it. Dating? Kevin asks. Why would a classy woman like Ashley fall for scum like Tom. He can be charming - Mike says - then suddenly realizes. He's the one who put the bee in Ash's bonnet. Why would he encourage Ash to accept the marriage? He'll wait for it to be on solid footing before he drops the bomb. Why not blow him out of the water? Ashley's a big girl - we have to take care of Gloria, Mike decides. We have to be the ones to tell her that son of a bitch is up to something - and I'm gonna put a stop to it right now.
Tom calls: guess who. I had a wonderful evening tonight. Ash completely understands him not wanting to meet Gloria - good night.
Gloria marches into Mike's office. This has nothing to do with planning the wedding, Mother. Mother? This must be serious, she detects. Mike brings up her marriage to Tom Fisher. Why would you want to remind me of that? a distressed Gloria asks. The only good thing to come from that was Kevin - never mention his name again. There's a chance that he's not your ex husband, Mike announces. What!? a horrified Gloria gapes.
Cut throat Cosmetics
Still at the club, Jack yammers on about only looking out for Vikki's best interests (which would be workign for Jabot) - and wonders if she'll have time to accomplish all her goals at NE - Nick might be back in a matter of days. I hope your plans come to fruition Vikki's happy that she'll have her father's blessing. Be happy for me. Jack knows what it's like to want to work with your father. He can relate - not easy living in the shadow of a great man. You're admitting Victor is a great man, Vikki smiles: Don't try wiggle out of it. It's also a curse living in that shadow, Jack continues: Every move is scrutinized. Business is cutthroat. You'll see - there are people ready to watch you fail. And you're one of those, Vikki suspects. Jack admits he wants to blow away the competition - and Jabot was an opportunity for Vikki to carve out a name for herself. Vikki thinks she's made the right decision. My father will never pull the rug out from under me. Jack hopes she won't end up with nothing. Victor's a shark - he just can't help himself. Good luck.
My Thoughts
Today's show rates a 7.5... 'Business is cutthroat - you'll see' - Jack makes it sound like Vikki hasn't already spent a good many years within the business world - she created and headed her own successful division - Remember? Wasn't that why you wanted to hire her .... If the Fisher gang had any sense they'd bust Terrible Tom immediately - if anything happens to John Abbott's 'beauty' there'll be hell to pay - especially since Mike and Kevin stood back and watched her date an this abusive man (what if he had plans to take her and little Abby out for ice cream?) .... Nick seems certain that his rage will suddenly vanish as soon as Daniel's behind bars - what will he do when he realizes everyone's right? Cassie's still gone ... Sharon is clearly floundering and needs help... Only question is where will she get it from - and will she be on her back when she gets it? ... If Brendan was so worried about the cops poking around his place - why is he OK with letting a perfect stranger listen to his phone messages? .... If Lily never took it upon herself to get a job in GC, how will she get one now? She's an underage runaway.
Next: A panicked Gloria asks Mike: Am I Mrs John Abbott or not?? Nikki narrows her eyes at Britney: Stop playing your little games - what's going on? ....JT confronts Bobby: I want to help Britney - but I'm not in this for life - make your move soon or I'm out.
For those who were members of the message boards - and therefore, no doubt, a friend of 'Leafy's' - Amy Kay has created a very touching tribute. http://dump.grendosa.com/Leafy.wmv . Just added: my own eulogy or sorts. My thoughts: From the heart - Leafy.
