Gottcha
Daniel awakens on the beach and tries to figure out if his revelation is real. Lily joins him: So, it wasn't a dream - we're wanted for murder - both of us, she worries. We have to change our plans, Daniel decides. He has to leave the country - by himself - I'm going to Mexico - YOU turn yourself in. What!? And be charged with murder!? Lily balks - we'll never see each other again. How could you do this? I won't go! Fine - Daniel will wait for the cops to find him too. It'll break his heart - but she HAS to go.
They walk up the beach - the cafe's up ahead - we can call the police. Lily wants to call Malcolm first. She approaches a surfer and asks to use his cell phone. Here - I've got tons of free minutes, he boasts as he hands it over.
Meanwhile, Paul and Malcolm are at the law firm working on Webber: We want to see the car Daniel was supposedly driving. Webber thinks it's a waste of time - it's been gone over. It was totaled - and is still impounded. Stubborn Paul has the gall to believe evidence may have been overlooked. Let my technicians look at the car (he has technicians?). Webber whines about spending taxpayers money (among other things). If they believe there's another explanation for what happened, he'll work with them AFTER Mr Romalotti is in custody.
Lily calls: Uncle Malcolm - it's me. Have they found any new evidence? Malcolm tries to be as discreet as possible: We're working on it right now - there's a lot of red tape. Please just come home. Who's that? Webber asks. Don't hang up, Malcolm orders . Bye Uncle Malcolm. Hello? Hello? Lily returns the phone to generous Mr Surfer - and has no good news to report. Daniel heads back up the beach - Lily - let's go! he calls back until she reluctantly follows.
Still at Brendan's, sNick declines coffee - if Daniel has a gun things could get ugly, he warns. He doesn't have a gun, Phyllis insists. My son's NOT dangerous. You can really say that? Nick's stunned. Neil thinks Nick has a point - we have to play it safe - that goes for you too Nick. One way or the other he'll pay for being an underage drunk - how that happens is entirely up to him.
Neil relays Malcolm's assessment: Lily didn't sound good. They're taking off again. Nick thinks that a good thing - they'll get em. Neil's reluctant to say more. Tell me! Daniel remembers more - he thinks it wasn't him driving the car. Nick goes ballistic: He thinks Cassie was driving!? He's lying to save his hide? He'll blame Cassie - that is NOT going to happen! He'll rot in prison! I'm going to the beach you better pray I don't find your boy! Nick!! Neil calls after him.
Can we stop a minute? Lily asks - it's so beautiful here. They hug - and frolic in the surf - two young lovers spending a few carefree moments. A dove flies overhead - a heart's drawn in the sand. 'Sunshine - I believe in you.....'
Neil tries to calm Nick down - what are you gonna do? Run down the beach? They head into the restaurant.
Lily and Daniel end their embrace - I guess this is it, Lily sniffles. I'll miss you, he says. Good luck, she wishes him. I can't say it - just go. I can't til you're safe, he says gallantly. I'll be fine, she says. Don't go to Mexico - wait so I can call you - tell you if things are better. Daniel's not sure where he'll be - but it won't be behind bars. You ready? I'm scared. It's better to do it this way, Daniel assures: it'll be OK. I can't do it - I won't do it! We already said our good byes. I love you - I always will, she cries. I love you too - wherever I am - I always will - that's real, he says with a kiss and a hug. Go - just go. She looks back, then heads towards the restaurant - a long sad, walk. Daniel comes back, hides, to watch her make it safely. Neil spots her from the front door - Lily!! He hugs her. She sees Daniel watching as Neil kisses her. He can't reach Dru - but Malcolm is soon updated by Neil that Lily is safe - and with him.
Malcolm tells Paul he's wrestling with something - and needs to get out of town. Paul's surprised: Your niece will be facing charges - she'll want you in her corner. Malcolm can only say that there's more to it than he can possibly imagine.
Joining Neil and Lily - Nick and Phyllis ask where Daniel is. Nick spots him - and gives chase along the beach - over the rocks and finally catches him and tackles him. Phyllis separates the two: get off of him! Stop! On the ground, Phyllis puts herself in front of Daniel. Now standing, a breathless Nick huffs and puffs as he looks down at them.
The Really Big Show
You rang? Brad arrives at Vikki's office. She gets to the pint: I want you to work here - be part of the NE team. Over you fathers dead body, Brad jokes. He's onboard, she assures - say Yes. I need your answer now. Brad takes a pass - I don't like having my arm twisted - have a good 'evening' (odd since everyone else is having breakfast!). Wait! Vikki commands. He doesn't want to have to run his decisions by her - and what about when Nick returns? We may have issues - but if you're doing your job, he'll work with you. We'll see about that. You're accepting my offer? Vikki beams. What the heck, Brad agrees - I'm thrilled, he says lamely. You have someone else to thank besides me - you're biggest fan, Sharon.
After Vikki taking a business call, Vikki explains she wouldn't have hired him if she didn't think he was a good fit - regardless of what Sharon had to say. Sharon arrives and is pleased to hear he took the job. When Vikki leaves them alone, Brad thanks Sharon for going to bat for him. She's having a rotten day - and hasn't heard much from Nick. Even if they caught Daniel today - would it be over for Nick? He's not insane - if he is, it's temporary - have faith, Brad assures. Sharon will try. They jokingly discuss how men have to be so tough: breadwinner - dragon slayer. Nick'll be home and in your arms letting go of all that emotion he's kept inside - be patient. In the meantime, I'm here to listen. You're such a good friend she says with a hug - as Vikki watches.
At the athletic club, Nikki greets Kay and then - JT and Brit are pointed out as the reason for the pouting. Nikki's sorry - you can do a lot better - you're a special young lady, she tells Mac. Ester agrees: JT doesn't deserve you.
Nikki goes to join Sharon. Are you following me? she asks. No - should I be? What do you mean by that? Sharon counters. I thought maybe Brad would be with you, Nikki says pointedly. Sharon's writing a journal, if you must know. Nikki approves - a much better way to deal with what you're going through. Sharon gets it - Brad - There's nothing to be concerned about. Nikki asks her to get involved in the gala, but Sharon can't bury herself in a social event to forget her daughter. Thanks for your concern but I'll handle my own life, she snaps as she walks off.
At a nearby table, Brit will never forget the sacrifice JT's making for her and Bobby. JT notices the looks people are giving her. Brit doesn't care if people call her a tramp - she wants to protect her sweet little boy. Kay, Mac and Ester glare as JT places a hand on her belly. Let's go - this is just cruel, he says. Sit down, she hisses. He turns to see Vinnie take a seat at the bar. We're doing what we need to do, she smiles. JT reluctantly sits back down. That's Vinnie Trabucco - he's connected and will do anything to keep a hold on Bobby - including threatening his wife and child. Mac watches as JT takes her hand and kisses it.
We don't have to stay, the three ladies decide - and agree to go. Nikki returns to say she's worried about Sharon - hopefully things will get better when Nick gets home. Before you know it, Mac's confronting JT and Brit: This is how it's going to be? You don't say Hello? You look cozy - I guess it's not hard to move on. Having a baby brings people together, Brit taunts. Don't get too comfortable - she screws men over - Billy ,Raul - Bobby - you'll learn the hard way too, Mac warns.
At the bar, hall monitor Nikki eyes Vinnie (eyeing Brit and JT). what are you doing? writing a book? she sneers. You seem awfully interested on what's going on at that table over there - why is that? You a member? You saying I don't fit in here? Vinnie replies. No, you don't Nikki claims: what's your name? Vinnie Trabucco, he says as he saunters off - with a suspicious Nikki watching after him.
JT quickly kisses Brit and briefly greets Nikki on his way out - then goes banging on Bobby's apartment door. No one saw me, he assures the angry Bobby. You could blow this whole thing! Is there a whole thing? JT has to ask. More and more I think you're just winging it. You dropped it in my lap -with no clue how to clean it up. Vinnie showed at the club - we had to put on this big show. Bobby says step one is getting people to believe he's the father. What's step 2? I'm working on it, Bobby says: If I don't do step 1 - I won't be alive for step 2. They'll kill me for messing with them. JT wants to get on with his life. Bobby's got it - don't come around here anymore - use the back way. Yeah, yeah, JT leaves.
Soon after, Vinnie visits - you look a little worked up, he observes. Saw your little lady at the club having breakfast with that punk - you gonna do something 'bout it? My Thoughts
Today's show rates an 8.5 .... Sorry for the delay - my regular broadcast this morning was preempted by coverage of the terrorist attacks in London. Thoughts and prayers to victims and families of this senseless tragedy.
For those who were members of the message boards - and therefore, no doubt, a friend of 'Leafy's' - Amy Kay has created a very touching tribute. http://dump.grendosa.com/Leafy.wmv . Just added: my own eulogy or sorts. My thoughts: From the heart - Leafy. |
