With quiet urgency, Mike has the unenviable task of explaining to Victor that nothing can be done about Jack's order to have Ashley assessed by a psychiatrist. Grrrrr - Victor can't stand that son of a bitch. He couldn't have found a better way to push Ashley over the edge.
Ashley leads Adam into her bedroom. Why so shaky? She's struggling with whether or not to confide in Victor. She should - he's her husband after all - but how can she possibly tell him that she may have hit Sabrina with her car?
At GC Memorial, Lily's on the phone encouraging her father to go back to work - she'll be home soon. Nap? Juice? Magazine? The circulation back in the hand Cane grips. Lily'd like a surprise - remember the 22 birthday presents? Yeah, but if only Cane could have given her the truth.
Sharon gets a call on the payphone outside her room. She's fine - just like all the other times Jack's called. The 'friendly neighbourhood worry wart' would really, really like to visit - as a favour - seeing her doing well would make his crappy day. Sharon needs time to herself - away from all pressure. OK, Jack reluctantly agrees ~click~
At NE, Nick and Phyllis are praising one another on what a great job they're doing with Summer - when a reporter for the National Inquisitor marches over to ask Nick how he feels about his former wife and spokes person being in the 'loony bin'. Nick scolds the reporter - and after she marches off, Phyllis and Nick are glad they have faith in each other ~kiss~ But as Nick gets on the elevator, Phyllis wears a dubious look.
Sharon's no visitor's policy doesn't extend to Noah. Telling him to say 'Hi' back to Eden, Sharon raves with forced enthusiasm about the place being a comfortable cocoon - with a great library.
Back at the ranch, Victor's raving too - ranting and raving. Ashley belongs at the ranch - ya got that? That son of a bitch is trying to spite me. All Mike can do is have the assessment done at the ranch. Ashley should be told. How can Victor tell the fragile Ashley that her own brother wants her committed? It'll break her heart.
Upstairs, Ashley confides that she's hanging on by a thread - if it breaks, Victor will see what a mess she is. Adam instructs Ashley to keep her distance. Too late - Ashley's already let Victor back in. Knock knock. The dismissed Adam eavesdrops as Victor explains that Jack's taken his vendetta to new heights. Told of the court order (and doctor's examination), Ashley's horrified - he wants to have me committed?
With Adam's ear glued to the door, Victor goes on to swear the psychiatric examination will prove she's not unstable - Mike's working on it. He is? Ashley balks at the delay in telling her. Victor instructs her to tell the shrink about what's been going on - it'd drive anyone crazy - she'll understand. After Victor exits, Ashley calls Jack - get your butt over her and explain what the hell it is you think you're doing.
At the club, Jack frowns at his phone as Nick comes along to relay the press are all over him about Sharon's 30 day observation. Should he send the press Jack's way? Sure. And will Jack give Sharon his best? Sure. Meanwhile, Sharon's no visitor's policy also excludes Phyllis. Is she there to gloat? Sharon wonders - or did she think she'd find Nick there?
Hands still clasped, Cane and Lily continue to act like a loving husband and wife. He releases her hand just long enough to closes the curtain (to tell Lily one of his great stories). He talks of a man on the other side of the world - let's call him Lane. He was living a mundane life blah blah blah. The moral of the story? Cane, I mean Lane, the hero can't go back to his own country because he turned in some cattle rustlers. Her kerchief some kind of thinking cap, the clever Lily concludes that Cane is Lane.
In NE's break room, Nick asks Noah if he's alright after his visit with Mom. Is MOM alright? Isn't THAT what you want to know? Noah gets all uppity. Back at the psychiatric facility, Phyllis has no reason to feel insecure over Nick - and doesn't like seeing Sharon in a place like this. She's there to warn her that reporters are badgering Nick about his crazy ex wife. They might disguise themselves as orderlies to ambush her. The baby and I are fine, Sharon assures - we'll survive. Yes, Phyllis IS impressed - and now thinks she misjudged Sharon.
At the ranch, Mike scolds Jack for putting Ashley through this. Jack feels he has no choice. Adam slinks in as they agree the examination can take place at the ranch. Jack even thanks Mike for being so considerate of his sister. What a hypocrite, Adam snipes. Jack barks at JR - this is about Ashley's well being (and nothing standing in the way of that). Victor arrives - what the hell are YOU doing here? Ashley calls down to summon Jack up - right away.
Upstairs, Ashley stares Jack down - how could you do this to me? Jack gently explains that she's not herself. He loves her - and won't give up without a fight. She didn't even remember the anniversary of their father's death - hasn't slept or eaten - she lives on tea and nightmares. Pregnancy's supposed to be a joyous time. Feel any joy lately in this house of horrors? Tearing up, Jack's heart aches. What happened to the bright, vibrant woman? Something sucked the life outta her. Say something! Jack barks. Ashley does - put a stop to this court order or you'll lose a sister - your choice.
Jack feels he'll lose Ashley if he DOESN'T get her help. There's terror in her eyes - if she was OK she'd tell him to go to hell (and wouldn't be afraid of seeing a shrink). Jack blames Victor and his merry band of sadists. Jack will be overjoyed if the psychiatrist declares her OK. It's not like he wants her in an institution. Ashley disagrees - her being away from Victor WOULD make Jack happy.
At the club, Mike ends a frustrating call with DR Jamison's people - that idiot! Lauren requests he relinquish his cell phone. How many of these 'emergencies' are paying clients anyway? Well, there's Victor. OK, so Mike has trouble with boundaries. He's spent the day running around for Kevin's new best friend - and now he's trying to save Ashley. He hands his phone over - sorry - he DID promise to do better. Lauren smiles at the marshmallow she loves.
Still holding hands, Lily declares Cane a hero - he's in danger? Why tell her now? Cane wanted to restore her faith in him. As he goes to fetch her a drink, Lily initiates conversation with a fellow patient, Celia. There for her fourth round, the pretty young lady looks the picture of health. Don't believe all the horror stories, she smiles (which encourages Lily). When Cane returns to hand Lily a drink, he wonders if he can get Celia something. Yes, Lily agrees - her husband IS awesome.
Back in the breakroom, Noah doesn't exactly share Sharon's positive review of the facility. Mom's been reading and relaxing. She made it sound like a friggin' vacation (but you can tell she doesn't like it). How is it different from jail? Is it really that bad? Nick wonders (then is chided for not going to see her).
Taking a seat, the friendly Phyllis and Sharon discuss Noah's visit. Phyllis appreciates Sharon singing to Summer - and knows it's agony being away from your child. Still smiling, Sharon warns her to be careful - she may just rip that ring off her finger. You and an army, Phyllis maintains her smile too - as she pushes Sharon to get back with Jack - he's such a great guy. Sharon never thought she'd be saying this, but thanks for stopping by. Now alone, Sharon's smile fades.
Back downstairs, Jack's accused of using his sister to avenge Victor. Ashley was on her way to recovery before he pulled this. Wake up man, Jack knows Ashley's 'in pieces' up there. Wearing his most menacing face, the only reason Jack still has his teeth is consideration for Ashley. Be a man for once - drop it. Jack thinks Victor needs to be a man - get Ashley the help she needs. It ain't gonna happen that way, Victor growls.
In Ashley's room, she worries about failing this test. Adam doesn't see why running Sabrina over should even come up. But Ash fears the shrinks will come at her from every angle - until they get the answers they want. She recalls her previous commitment - hearing people crying and moaning all night long. Adam promises his only friend that she's not going to that hell hole. I will NOT let that happen - you mean too much to me ~hug~
Mike and Lauren continue to enjoy their dinner out. Eden's babysitting til 9:30 - and Mike's phone hasn't rung in 10 minutes. Why aren't we upstairs in a room? Waiter! Mike requests a room key.
Stop treating Ashley like a child, Victor concludes. Jack gets a call to alert that the court ordered psychiatrist is on her way. Vic's sure Ashley will pass the examination and send the shrink home - and then send JACK home. Upstairs, Adam repeats - I will not let them take you away. You can beat this. Listen to me - do exactly what I say. I'm your only hope.
Now home, Lily's assures she wasn't sick - she just had to pee. Cane doesn't want her cooking. He'll take care of her. Lily feels fine - even great. Let me do this, please. Cane agrees - and smiles as Lily gets to work.
Noah thinks maybe his Dad's the one who's whacked. He's happy for him and Phyllis - but does he have to avoid Mom. She HAS support, Nick assures - Jack. It's the way things should be.
Phyllis returns - she noticed something 'funny' as she signed out. Jack's name isn't on the sheet. Why hasn't the father of Sharon's child come to check on her and her baby - not once since she's been there???
Next: More than a memory? the shrink asks - Sabrina was alive? Are you asking if I believe in ghosts? Ashley seems rational enough ... Adam will be damned if he'll let Ashley be poisoned against Victor - the way Jack did with HIM .... In the passenger seat of Paul's car, MJ's aghast to see blood all over her hands - Oh my God, what have I done? In the driver's seat, Paul groans in pain.
My Thoughts: It's a good thing Lily had Cane with her - considering she's got a ton of stuff to bring home with her - the DVD's, laptop, the plush pillows from the Chancellor's. Cane wants to be just like Lily? Shave your head! .... Why didn't Celia recognize Lily from her numerous RS appearances? How old is Lily? She needs a bedtime story? (and she's not even going to sleep) ... Cane fled Australia to escape cattle rustlers? There's nowhere he could hide anywhere within that large country? That's as lame as this whole art deal - let's hope this is one of those dropped storylines. Good thing he pulled that flimsy curtain around to ensure privacy - cause ya never know when a member of the 'cattle mafia' (yup - I said cattle mafia) will catch up with ya. They're apparently 'very well organized' ... Lane's story ( in which he's a stand up, self declared 'hero'), a poor cattle farmer was having his herd slowly stolen until there was nothing left? Lily's right - that IS soooo sad. If only he hired those Warner Bros. sheepdogs to guard said herd - once he'd punched in, Sam was able to thwart any scheme Ralph came up with (no matter what latest Acme gadgets he used). One has to ask, do the cattle mafia put a horses head in their target's bed? Or a cow's? .... What's with Ashley's gyrations and jerky movements lately? Yesterday, the unnatural way she hugged Jack - and today, when talking to him, she shimmies n' shakes like a spider just landed on her .... Sharon has some nerve. Jack dropped everything to be there for her when she was arrested - DESITE being devastated by her lies - and she can't even do him the favour of granting him a 'quickie'. Oh really? Patients are allowed conjugal visits? .... Um Sharon - you're in a psychiatric hospital - it might be a good idea to at least close your door. Why wasn't Phyllis announced by an orderly - before just marching into Sharon's room? If guests need to sign in, you'd think they'd need permission to visit. Why would reporters need to disguise themselves as orderlies - looks like they can just get clearance by signing in under the name of your arch enemy .... Nice that Eden passed along a 'Hi' (considering she never did get an apology for Sharon framing her) Good think the facility has a library - we all know what a big reader Sharon is (at least now she doesn't have to resort to stealing her reading material) ... 'That's what mother's do'. Phyllis is modest about Nick's praise. Good that she now DOES know what mother's do (as she didn't in Daniel's case) .... How does a 'hack crony' manage to get up to the executive offices at NE - security sure has slipped since JT left. And why didn't Nick have the reporter ESCORTED off the premises? Jack's OK with Nick diverting the press his way? That's nice - but why aren't they already ambushing Jack? He IS Sharon's most recent partner for life - and not exactly a hard man to find. Reporters need only hang out at Jimmy's or the club ... Jack rants that Ashley looks 'much too thin' for him? Huh? Ashley's weight has never topped 3 digits - and it's not like Jack's used to women with meat on their bones. MJ could be a stand in for skeletor. And take a good look at Adam, Jack. Guy's lost so much weight he can slip in and out of an ankle monitor. Jack also claims that Traci's onboard? Really? Without even bothering to make the trip out to check on her sister with her own eyes - she decides Ashley should be committed? If Traci's just jealous that Ashley's so skinny, maybe she should try the ole 'tea and nightmare' diet ... Does Victor count as a paying client? I'd think so. You'd assume a man posting a million dollars reward money (for a woman HE brought to town), wouldn't be bouncing checks to his lawyer ... Mike will try to convince the Judge to get Ashley's examination done at the ranch? That shouldn't be too hard. Every doctor's appointment has been at the ranch - every DNA test ever done has been performed at someone's home. Newman's never have to lower themselves to meeting their attorney's in their offices. Was there ever any doubt that Ashley's exam would take place at home.
