Out for dinner at the club, is seems the Baldwin's have been busy - visiting Scott - Lauren's trip to Toronto. Mike's happy to boast that he did no 'lawyering' for any of his family members while she was gone. Oh poor Victor - oh poor Colleen - oh poor Traci. One just can't take anything for granted. When Jeff comes along looking for Gloria, Mike gets the impression she's avoiding him (perhaps because of all the unpaid bills he hauls out of his briefcase) What's going on?
On the CL's patio, Gloria's on the phone with the salon. Yes, I DO need the job, she hangs up. Enter Deacon to say that Mrs Bardwell looks as lovely as ever. He's well aware that she doesn't trust him - but by this time tomorrow he's gonna be one of her favourite people. Why? Because he plans to make her a very wealthy woman.
Inside, the Fab Four have their hands on Gloria and Tom's wedding certificate and Tom's death certificate - and now, they just need Glo's photo ID. Uh oh - Deacon's on the patio - don't let him get to you, Amber's warned. That Terroni better be in the safety deposit box - no way she's marrying that dirt bag. Kevin gives Amber, (aka 'Mommy') Gloria's 2004 passport - and a large black, brimmed hat.
Most of the mausoleum's habitants have gathered in the back yard - 3 generations - how blessed we are - Mac and Chance back from war zones - Philip back in our lives. Kay felt the need to tell everyone how much they mean to her. Chloe has no update from the hospital, but since Mac's with Billy, is sure they'll hear something soon. On that depressing note, Kay advises all to have no regrets for love unexpressed - say what's in your heart. 'To open hearts', all clink glasses. Watching Chance following Chloe around, Nina tries to send Philip over to 'catch up' with his son. He's busy? All the more reason. Noticing Nina's evil eye, Chloe brings it to Chance's attention. A LITTLE overprotective? she scoffs. Drink in hand, Jill makes a point of insulting Ester on her uniform. So, we're not the Walton's, Kay manages to quips to Murphy (as Ester marches off in a snit).
Back at CL's, Amber's practicing Glo's signature - while Daniel's booked 4 tickets to Detroit. Yes - Daniel has the safety deposit box key with him. Kevin understands why he stole it - and is glad he did (to stop the wedding). Daniel's glad - he might have to swipe the painting too (again for Amber) - though he knows Kevin wants the reward money (and Jana wants the Terroni returned to the museum). Oh well - no sense fighting til they've got the painting. Realizing Ryder's a liar, Kevin will deal with him AFTER they've rescued Amber. And though Daniel easily manages to forge Glo's signature, he'd rather help Amber than don the hat to play the role of Gloria himself.
Still on the patio, Gloria's sure that Tom never had the painting - it's a scam. Even if Tom HAD the 'Zamboni', she's sure it's long gone. Deacon points out that it's never been up for sale - and he knows exactly where it is. In a safety deposit box in Detroit. YOU don't need a key - you just need paperwork to say you're Tom's widow. How much is it worth? 50 million on the open market.
Having joined the Baldwin's, Jeff assures it's just a mix up due to the change in address. Funny, Jill told Mike and Lauren that the Bardwell's were broke. That woman's always trying to stir up trouble, Jeff chuckles. But when he makes the mistake or removing his hat, the Baldwin's instantly recognize remnants of a 'dye pack' - and threaten to call the police. OK, OK, Jeff admits that he and his little Glo worm are broke.
Ester scolds Chloe for letting Chance fall in love with Delia - and her. Why doesn't she forget about Billy, and give Chance... well... a chance? Chloe's sure Chance will find the perfect girl - and guess what? She goes to church on Sunday and wears cotton and flats. Chloe maintains that she belongs with Billy.
At the grill, Murphy and Philip talk BBQ secrets. Philip throws a big BBQ every year down under (but isn't sure if he will THIS year). And when he wonders how Murphy found the 'adjustment', Murphy felt at home since being welcomed with open arms. Funny, Philip always felt an outsider. Murphy opines that the women have been pretty forgiving considering the 'stunt' he pulled. Meanwhile, exchanging a few civil words (about Cane and Philip), Jill and Kay are soon hissing at one another about the 100K in taxes that Jill still owes (and what Kay's reason was for mentioning it).
'Glo' now doubts the bank kept the box going (without rental being paid on it for years). But Deacon let's her in on a little secret - it takes 5 years for a box to be declared dormant. When Glo's eyes light up at the thought of 50 million, Deacon bursts her bubble. SHE doesn't have the contacts - but HE has a buyer willing to pay 5 mil for the stolen piece (of which HE takes 50%). Yeah, that leaves Glo with 2.5 million, but if the feds get a warrant to open the box she gets nothing. Doesn't Tom owe you something for the way he treated you? Yeah, Glo mulls it over - the bastard owes me.
As the Fab Four are ready to head out, the Baldwin's come along - Detroit? Jana spins some lie about Daniel having an art show there. And though Mike would like to talk to Kevin about Glo being broke, he has to run - sorry. No, of course he's not mad at Mike for refusing to represent Ryder. Bye - see you later, the FF leave in a flurry of waves and smiles. I don't like this at all, Mike snarls - but is further puzzled when Glo sashays in - Yes, I'm broke - no big deal.
Poolside, Philip joins Chance to say how cute Delia is. Yeah, she has the same spark as her mother, Chance remarks. And when Chloe does some odd little dance as she calls Chance over to choose his beverage, Nina comes along to remark that what Chloe lacks in sublety, she makes up for in brazeness. And while Philip feels Chloe's flirting 'harmless' (for a man who survived Iraq), Nina argues that he's presenting a 'ready made family' to a boy who never had one. He's not a BOY, Philip reminds (hard for you to accept). When Kay comes along to discuss the progress of the script, they joke about Kay having too interesting a life to fit into one movie - so, Nina will focus on 'conflict'. Hearing her name, Jill marches over to lash out at Kay. Jill isn't placated by Nina's promise of a balanced protrayal - and ends up ripping out, and shoving a 'stupid check' at Kay. After Jill stomps off, Murphy thinks Jill's been tense since asked for the tax money. No, Kay's sure the money isn't the issue - she gave us the check. But she didn't sign it, Murphy notices.
Nina pastes on a smile as she joins Chance and Chloe. How did you like that book I loaned you? Oh no, you wouldn't be interested, Nina waves Chloe off - it's about US diplomacy in Kashmir - the region - not the sweaters. Chance takes his Mom aside to ask what she thinks she's doing - and doesn't fall for her innocent denial. Stop - butt out, he says bluntly.
Gloria quickly confirms that she lost everything when the Cayman bank collapsed - but arouses their suspicions when she'd rather talk about Mike's bicycle race with Eden. I'm fine, Glo insists - with fabulous prospects. The exploding dye packs? That was a scheme of Jeff's (who's not included in her latest 'adventure'). Thinking Gloria 'evasive', Mike would rather lend her money now - than bail her out later. Glo assures she's just fine - and has a meeting to get to. Marching past the nervous Baldwin's, Jill (who's witnessed the discussion), makes a beeline to the patio. Want to carpool to the salon? she asks in front of Deacon. Sending Jill on ahead, Glo will NOT be seeing Jill there. To herself, she gloats that he minimum wage days are over. Kay then comes looking for Jill - know where she went? As a matter of fact Glo does - and here's the salon's business card. It's worth the trip, she promises. When Kay turns to look at Deacon, he gives her the universal 'call me' gesture and a wink. Next to enter the patio, Glo asks 'Loverman' to go get her a latte before she heads off to her shift (leaving her time to tell Deacon they can't talk there). No problem - Deacon's written everything down - her flight # - the documents she needs - and the bank's address. Erie Federal? Glo's never heard of it. You will, Deacon leads her out (as an unimpressed Jeffrey returns to stand in the patio's doorway).
Philip joins Chance and Nina disagreeing (about Chloe being obvious) to support his son (who has good judgement). At worst, Chance gets his heart broken and he'll realize Nina was right. No, Nina's worse case scenario is that Chloe (the little schemer) becomes their daughter in law! Chance thinks his Mom's getting waaay ahead of herself. Meanwhile, Murphy assures Chloe that Chance won't listen to his Mom (like he didn't). And telling the tale of his 'player' buddy (and how sometimes girls cozied up to HIM to get close to his pal), makes his point - it would have been nice if they got what they wanted without using someone who cared about em - you know?
Back at CL's, the Baldwin's decide to remember their boundaries - and not take on Mike's family's problems. But before Lauren can relay another cute Fenmore story, Jeff marches over demanding to know why Gloria's going to Detroit - the Erie Federal Bank. Mike doesn't know what's going on - and doesn't want to. After Jeff keeps marching, the Baldwin's recall that Kevin's off to Detroit too. Hmmm. It's not our problem, they clink mugs - or is it?
At the Erie Federal bank, Kevin has a supportive arm around his sniffling 'mother' as he explains to the front desk that they're there to open the safety deposit box of his deceased father. He hands over the documents - with Amber sobbing at the mention of Tom's death certificate. As the receptionist goes to fetch the manager, Kevin starts filling out the forms (while Daniel and Jana watch on not so discreetly). When the manager comes to express condolensces, Amber sobs - he was such a great man. Asking Amber to remove her sunglasses, the manager notes that she looks younger than in the passport photo. I've had work done, Amber dabs at her eyes with a hanky. Asked to sign the papers, Amber claims she'll try - but recently sprained her wrist. This won't do, the manager compares the signatures - sorry - but they don't match. As Amber wails that she can't go through this again, Kevin looks trumped.
Though Nina thinks it a bit late for Philip to play 'father knows best', he insists that she ease up a bit on Chance and Chloe. Meanwhile, Chloe accepts an apology from Chance (who's mother's a rookie compared to Jill). He has something for Chloe and Delia - GCPD shirts. Usually they go to the wives and kids - but a buddy gave him some. What are you gonna give me next? Chloe wonders - your gun?
Pacing around the bank, Kevin fakes a call to ask the doctor if his Mom can take the arm brace off to sign some papers. Sure I can hold. And as the manager refuses to let Amber try signing again, he leaves to take a call on line 2. Faux new customer Jana effectively distracts the receptionist with questions - while Kevin is the caller on line 2. And as he gives the manager a hard time about the banks' hours, Daniel sneaks over to sign Gloria's signature. Hello? Hello? the manager hangs up - just as Jana finishes with the receptionist. Returning to Amber, he checks the signature she's tried again.
As Murphy cleans up the condiments, Ester remarks on the 'adorable' GCPD attire Chance gave Chloe - still think he's not that into you? Chloe concludes that she has Chance wrapped around her finger now. Aside, Chance thanks Philip for his support - and when asked his opinion, thinks Philip should stay on in GC. Then, he will.
At the salon, Jill's just done her boss' nails so well that it's proclaimed she has a gift. Gee, thanks, Jill says out of earshot. When Jeff comes in demanding to know where Gloria is, both he and Jill are stunned to hear she quit - said she had 'better prospects'. Jeff tells Jill she'll have to wait in line for her 'cut' - right now, you've got a customer. Can I help you? Jill turns to find herself face to face with Kay. She'd like a manicure - and Jill's signature on the check.
At CL's, the Baldwin's get their cheesecake in a box. Boundaries be damned! They have to get their asses to Detroit.
Can my son come with me? Amber leads Kevin into the safety deposit box area. Hello, my name is Gloria Fisher, Glo sashays in wearing faux leopard and looking every inch her former diva self. As the receptionist casts a puzzled look over her shoulder, Daniel and Jana's jaws also drop.
Next: I packed my bags. I was planning on leaving you, Ashley props her head on Victor's bed. Are you still leaving? Victor asks ... In Memorial's lounge area, Adam sneers at Nick - you'll never fill Daddy's shoes. And you will? Nick fires back - you'd still be under house arrest if Dad didn't take pity on you ... Will the real Gloria Fisher please stand up, the manager booms (as Gloria and the Fab Four gape at one another).
My Thoughts: After all the sobbing and melodrama of the last few days, it's nice to get some comic relief. That IS what the Fisher's are, right? Cause this whole slapstick scheme CAN'T be serious. Wouldn't the Fab Four's antics be caught on the same type of surveillance camera's that caught Amber and the Chipmunk's armed bank robberies? Don't bank manager's usually have an office to conduct this type of business in? Especially when dealing with a 'grieving widow' ... Poor TBR (Lauren) - once a front burner lead actress - with approximately 20 years seniority - and now she's demoted to a prop for the Fab Four and nauseating filler talk of her adorable - but never seen son. At least there's been mention of Lauren's other never seen son ... Does Deacon live on the CL's patio? ... Why does Jill feel she gets a cut in any and all projects or deals Jeff has going? She was to get a cut of Victor's reward - and that never materialized ... With Billy and Mac last seen leaving Memorial, and going 'anywhere but here', it's odd that they didn't attend Kay's cook out. Too busy gettin' busy in Murphy's old trailer I s'pose ... Duh Gloria - Deacon didn't say they 'have 5 whole years' - he said it takes 5 years for an inactive Michigan Bank's SD box to beclared dormant. It would be 5 years since .. Oh yes - Chloe presenting herself as a ready made family - just what every young bachelor wants. Being a good mother to Delia, raising her instead of foisting her off on a nanny, is Chloe's one saving grace... Jill seems to be getting drunk at the 'family BBQ' - but after DRIVING over to CL's (where she had one coffee) - she's sober enough to give her boss the best manicure she's ever received? Who'd want to carpool with a drunk driver? ... The Fisher's were so concerned about Colleen that they considered going over to the Abbott's (an idea rejected only because it was too early) and held some candlelit spiritual thing - but now, with the prospect of money on the horizon, have completely forgotten about her to fly off to Detroit. Are we supposed to forget that Daniel once felt close enough to Colleen to sleep with her in Malibu? ... How fortunate that flights from Wisconsin to Detroit have so many vacant seats - anyone wanna guess how long it takes the Baldwin's to show up? I'm guessing it's before the Erie Federal Bank closes it's doors for the day .. Funny how Amber had to draw her inspiration from 'fake Cane' - when it looks like she's wearing on of the hats she used to disguise herself at Marina (to enter Jabot's Fresh Face competition)... And it also strikes he as odd that the manager wouldn't recognize Kevin Fisher. The Silveer Chipmunk may be adored by legions of outcast kids - but I'm guessing bank employees wouldn't be big fans of a reknowned bank robber .... Why would Lauren, who was soooo determined that Mike stick to the 'boundaries', suddenly change her mind? And what problem does Lauren think could ever stop their son from seeing his Uncle and Grandmother 'ever again'? Thanks to Mike the mother and son duo have already beaten almost every charge possible. |
