Awakening from a fuzzy dream of giving birth (with DR Taylor and Nick hovering over her), a panicked Sharon summons a nurse to her room. She has no idea how she got to from the 'private facility' to the hospital - and is frantic to see her baby.
Adam peeks in on Ashley cradling 'her' baby - then, in the hallway, tells his 'friend' they dodged a bullet. Adam's not sick - he's resourceful. And slamming DR Taylor against a wall, Adam insists he didn't steal any baby - that's ASHLEY'S baby! Taylor better tell Sharon that her baby died - sex offenders aren't too popular in prison *hint hint*. Visiting the 'new Mama', Adam comments that Ashley can now go to Memorial. The happy new mother coos to her baby - your big brother's gonna take care of you - just like he did me.
As the family gather's in Victor's room, he complains of being tired. Abby's not sure where Adam is. He hasn't been seen since last night, Nick chimes in (then whispers to his Mom about there being no news from the Abbott's). Dad's getting weaker, he frets.
In Colleen's room, DR Snyder explains the tests necessary to determine whether Victor and Colleen are a match. Arriving with Mac, Billy's not impressed to hear Traci and Jack are onboard with letting his niece's heart go to 'that person' (which isn't what Colleen would want). Is Billy in the Twilight Zone? The 'bigger picture'? Victor doesn't deserve to wake up in the morning. Traci doesn't want to hear anymore until the tests come back (then dissolves into tears as Billy storms out).
With JT now joining the family, Jack arrives to inform Victor that tests are being done to determine if he and Colleen are a match. As JT walks out, Vikki follows. All remaining express concern for Abby (who also leaves the room - in tears). Having no knowledge that tests are being done, Victor's sorry Jack's family has to make this decision - but is very glad they did. Don't thank us yet, Jack's unable to say more (and muttering something about checking on Abby, also dashes out).
In the hallway, Jack's stunned when DR Snyder announces that Ashley and her infant daughter have been brought in. In her room, Ashley OK's Adam's visit - he's the stepson who delivered her baby. Hearing the on call OBGYN will be in to examine her soon, Ash giggles about how good she feels - considering she just had a baby. Examination? Adam looks worried.
Wanting an update on Victor, Ashley thanks Adam as he leaves. Congratulations, Jack comes in to meet his new niece. Wow - she's so tiny, he beams into the bassinet. He then shocks Ashley with the news that Colleen's heart might go to Victor (who'll die otherwise). When DR Mangino arrives to examine Ashley, she doesn't have time for that. She MUST see her baby's father!
Vikki finds JT moping in the chapel. All this is beyond his comprehension - and he's not sure whether he'd 'hate' Vikki if she prayed for Colleen and Victor to be a match. Barging in looking for Mac, Billy doesn't want to hear Vikki's condolences - Colleen's just someone she had to 'put up with' because she was married to Brad. Don't pretend you're broken up because she's gone - she's 'spare parts' now. 'Peace' is a tall order for Billy right now. When JT follows Vikki out, Billy defends his rant - Vikki pushed his buttons with the 'family' thing. We're ALL suffering here! JT snaps. We go way back, Billy reminds - and knows JT agrees that 'this' is wrong. Maybe together we can prevent this from happening, he tries to enlist JT as an ally.
Back in Victor's room, the DR will be back to discuss options - if the potential donor's a match. Victor can't believe the Abbott's are considering it. Says a lot about forgiveness, Nick and Nikki agree. Victor won't have false hopes - but Nikki will remain optimistic if he doesn't mind. When Victor wants to see Summer and Phyllis - to tell them how much he loves them, Nick's sure he'll be alive when they get - I have faith.
Who doesn't have 'Faith'? Sharon, that's who (as she demands to see her baby - NOW!) Initially relieved when DR Taylor arrives, Sharon's soon devastated when he gently explains there were problems with the delivery - her 'malformed' baby didn't survive. Sharon's in denial - my baby was healthy. Some things can't be foreseen, Taylor continues - Sharon went into early labour because her body sensed the fetus wasn't viable. To no avail, Sharon begs to hold her baby. This can't be happening! I heard her cry - she was alive, she sobs. No - your baby never took a breath, Taylor's sorry to say. God No! Sharon weeps (as Taylor talks of papers she needs to sign). Faith! Don't tell me she's gone. No! Don't let her be gone, Sharon continues hysterically.
Seeing DR Taylor at the nurse's station, Adam summons him over (griping about how long it took for him to tell Sharon her baby died). Yes, she bought it, Taylor hisses in disgust. Now Adam insists he intercept Ashley's examination - or he'll forward the letter Skye wrote about the good doctor.
DR Mangino can't very well let Ashley roam about the hospital without being examined. But as Ashley argues that she's fine (and needs to check on her husband), DR Taylor arrives (and sends DR Mangino off - thanking him for his diligence). Ashley explains the situation - can't the examination wait? No, but DR Taylor promises to be quick. And as Jack waits outside, the stressed out DR claims he's just fine - but we had quite a night last night. Taylor looks further perturbed when Ashley raves about Adam's heroics last night.
Billy continues to badger JT - do you really want Colleen's heart to go to Victor!? I thought you loved her. Of course I ... JT cuts off his reply to remind that Victor IS his son's grandfather. And this isn't about what Colleen would want - it's about what Billy DOESN'T want. After Mac silently slips in, JT marches out (leaving Billy to huff and puff - and vow he'll shut this whole place down if he has to). This is NOT going to happen!
Returning to Ashley's room, Jack hears that DR Taylor's off trying to get permission for her to see Victor in ICU. He's getting weaker by the minute, Jack admits - but it's NOT her fault. He then FINALLY manages to convince Ashley that Nikki's fine (and just flew in from a spa in the Rockies). I never hurt anybody? a relieved Ashley thanks him with a hug - you have NO idea what you've done for me. And when Abby races in crying, Jack turns her frown upside down - by introducing her to her new sister.
With his limited vision, Adam watches Nick in with his father (through the window). When Vikki 'sneaks up' to ask 'where've you been'? Adam scolds her. And when Nick joins in to update on Victor's dire situation (and also wonder 'where the hell' he's been), Adam sneers that it's none of his business - then provokes Nick into attacking him. JT breaks it up - knock it off, then walks off shaking his head in disgust. Told to leave by his half siblings, Adam does so - consider me gone. But as he trips over an unattended IV stand, Vikki looks guilty and offers to help. Getting up, Adam rejects her offer - then warns his 'brother' that 'this is far from over. It's just beginning - you just don't know it yet'. Cut to a heartbroken Sharon - crying in her bed.
As Traci strokes Colleen's hair, am utterly depressed JT arrives - he doesn't want to argue, or talk - he just wants to sit with Colleen if that's OK. We'd love that, Traci whimpers (as JT gazes at the girl he once loved).
In the chapel, Billy's on the phone requesting a large sum of money (in hundreds). He covers his phone to tell Mac 'it's NOT ridiculous'. Cold hard cash can stop anything. This is what Victor would do. Mac takes the phone - Mr Abbott won't be needing that money, she hangs up. Enough! she snaps at Billy. Bribing someone honours Colleen's memory? Billy feels guilty that he kidnapped Ashley (against Jack's wishes) instead of going to the cabin. Mac reasons that they'll never know if he'd have gotten there in time. If Billy can stop this 'travesty', he'll do what Jack says for the rest of his life. Then listen to him right now, Mac suggests.
She's incredible - just like my first baby girl, Ashley gushes to Abby (who can't believe all this grief's happening at once). Ashley vows to be a better mother - we'll get past it all. Dad? He'll get past it to, Ash assures (through prayer and hope).
In the hallway, Nick's on hold with the psychiatric facility (who left a message for him earlier). And after a few harsh words about Adam with Nikki, Nick's stunned to hear Sharon's been moved - to ST Mary's Children's Hospital. Don't tell Dad - I'll call you, Nick flies out.
As Traci gives Colleen a weather report, Billy and Mac arrive. And after Mac leaves to update her Grandma, Jack arrives with good news. But before he can announce Ashley's new baby, DR Snyder arrives with news too - Colleen and Victor match (a transplant is possible). Exchanging a look with Billy, it's hard to tell whether Jack thinks that good news of bad.
Nikki massages Victor's hands as she talks of that day (after she was shot) - in that very hospital, he applied her make up. She'll never forget that. Victor weakly declares her the heart and soul of the family. He's grateful to have known (and loved) her. There's no one like you. And as Ashley peeks her head in, Victor quietly admits that he's never felt a greater love than the love he's felt for Nikki. Closing the door quietly, Ashley marches down the hall.
Adam hands Taylor airline tickets back to Boston. The driver will take them to the ranch (where he'll be given Skye's letter). No catch - he's free to go. Yes - just like that. DR Taylor marvels at the most cold hearted snake he's ever known - and what about that poor woman sobbing because she thinks her baby's dead? Adam will take care of that one on his own.
Sharon? Nick quietly approaches the bed - I got a call ... the baby - did something happen? Faith, Sharon whispers - she didn't make it. Our little girl didn't make it. Nick too now looks devastated.
Next: Nikki explains - Something happened to Sharon. She was taken to St Mary's Hospital. Nick's just checking on her. Phyllis smiles and nods (clearly unimpressed but not surprised) ... Ashley tells a frowning Adam - I'm not gonna name my daughter Hope. I'm gonna name her Faith ... Traci tells Jack that she's made her decision - but needs his help. Whatever you want, Jack readily offers.
My Thoughts; Today's lump in the throat moment comes courtesy of JT - as 'their' song plays, I've never seen him look at his current onscreen (and off) wife with such raw love as the emotion in his face as he looks at his childhood love, Colleen. Or maybe the difference is that we all knew Vikki would eventually do what everyone was telling her to do - and 'wake up' (whereas Colleen obviously won't) ... But wait - here's an idea - instead of transplanting Colleen's heart into Victor's body, why don't the Abbott's ask the Newman's for Victor's brain? *snicker* .... Thought I might find you here, Vikki says as she finds JT in the chapel. Of course she'd find him there - she FOLLOWED him there. Leaving Victor's room immediately after him, there's no way JT could have shaken Vikki if he tried. Otherwise, the chapel is the last place you'd think to find a self admitted non-believer named HELLstrum ..... Ashley's 'trying to get permission' to go see her husband in ICU? Hello - your last name's NEWMAN (same as the plaque on some wall in Memorial I'm sure). You've just had a baby - you're not under house arrest. Anyone trying to stop Ashley from seeing her near dead husband is opening themselves up to a costly lawsuit. Now put the woman in a wheelchair and get goin'. That said, there may be some confusion (due to the fact that there's already another MRS Newman holding vigil at the great man's bedside) One who's actively campaigning for a new heart - while the real Mrs Newman's cooing and gurgling over another woman's infant ... Oh - and speaking of lawsuits - who the hell left that IV stand in the middle of the hallway unattended? Adam shoulda stayed down - rolling on the ground in agony - shrieking 'call my lawyer!' (I'm sure he could convince Rafe to do it - somehow) ... Since Sharon wasn't drugged - why is she do disoriented? She delivered a baby - she didn't undergo a labotomy ...
