At RS, Nick updates on how great it is to see his Dad up and walking (Though Phyllis is slightly less impressed). With things deteriorating over at NE, Phyllis offers to work as a temp - and 'whup' everyone into shape. Her workload at RS? Someone's offered to lighten that - permanently.
On the CL's patio, Mac and Billy elude to a fruitful night in bed (which Billy's eager to get back to). Their kiss is interrupted by Chloe - did you tell her the big news? I AM the reason he wants to buy RS (clearly, Billy just can't get enough of her).
Lily looks uncomfortable at Indigo (where Cane's brought her to celebrate her 'good numbers' - and that they've decided to share a future again). Lily knows her family won't be happy - and who can blame them?
At CL's, Kevin and Mike bicker about Ryder (whom Kev refuses to give up on - it's that simple). Meanwhile, Ryder gets a visit from Deacon (who whines about being jerked around by HIS Mommy dearest). Left with NOTHING, he's done with him and his 'old lady' - it's OVER! In their studio apartment, Amber wakes Daniel up with a grin - we need to do it again. No - not that. She wants the ring back on her finger ~kiss~
Back at RS, Nick wonders if Billy's offer's legit - or is he trying to get back at the Newman's (on Colleen's behalf). This is our dream, Nick reminds. Yes - OUR dream, Phyllis agrees - but a lot's happened since then (including her daughter almost dying there). Phyllis doesn't have a moment to breath - and no, Nikki's absence hasn't helped. How does Nick feel? Don't do it.
On the patio, Mac's questions on how serious Billy is (about buying RS) are answered by Chloe (who relays that Phyllis thinks it a 'lame' idea). Why would she give Billy her dream. And when Billy tells Mac that he's seen Phyllis' expression at many a poker table, Chloe chortles about basing a business idea on something that almost put him into rehab. WHY are you here? Mac snaps. Because RS is Chloe's turf - it's best for everyone if Billy takes a job at Jimmy's (where he can stalk his girlfriend instead of his ex wife).
Ryder has NO sympathy for Deacon (who's been staying in a nice hotel while he's rooming with a heroin junkie). Deacon wants out - 'she' doesn't own me. Wanna bet? Ryder responds.
Kevin reminds the Baldwin's that Mike didn't give up on him; a bank robber. Can't they reserve judgment until they get to know Ryder a bit? As the Baldwin's walk away, Kevin appeals to Jana - Ryder's a good kid (who they should invite to live with them). Think about it, Kevin asks (as he runs off to the police station). Jana's left to chat with the Baldwin's. Lauren feels something's not right about Ryder - but can't put her finger on what it is.
Seated at Indigo, Cane doesn't blame Neil and Devon for not being onboard (with their reconciliation). Lily's thrilled to see Roxy ~hug~ (who explains she was meeting Devon to come visit her). As Devon and Cane go to get some water, Roxy asks if Lily and Cane are back together. Sort of - they're recommitted (but sleeping in separate rooms still). What changed her mind? Being sick put things into perspective for Lily. That's great, Roxy sighs - no, nothing happened between her and Devon - but she totally forgot about some notes for chem lab. Good to see you, she hurries out. What did you do to her? Lily has to ask when Devon returns. You broke up? When? Cane goes for coffee - leaving Lily to scold Devon for cheating on someone as amazing on Roxy. What? Tyra!? Wow - didn't Devon hate Tyra? Does Dad know? Yes - and that's why Tyra left (and doing well in Seattle). If only Devon could take back what he did.
NO, Nick's not against selling RS to Billy - he's against selling to anyone. He loves the look in Phyllis' eye (that her 'dream' gives her). There's different ways to ease the pressure of running the magazine alone. No - Nick's not coming back, but he CAN find a solid coeditor. Phyllis just wants to put her family first - the rest if 'cake'. But Nick's left wondering if that means she wants to sell, or not.
Chloe continues to hover - until she gets a call from Chance (whom she claims she was just thinking about). Billy now gets a chance to get Mac's take on him buying RS. She's all for him having his voice heard (on what's really going on in the world). Think about what you're taking on, she advises. Billy gets a text on what a magazine of this size would cost. Wow - it's steep. But he's sure he could get a loan for that amount. It's perfect - it's right, Billy's sure - just like he knew Mac was right ~kiss~ Chloe wanders back - oh, Chance is just one of those guys you wanna clone. Can't you take a hint? Mac snips. Billy then gets a call from Phyllis - who'd like to talk to him, at RS.
Come ON, Amber pressures Daniel. He loves this ring - because it's her, bright, beautiful, solid - and forever - THAT'S what it stands for - and THAT'S what Daniel wants. He'll never let her go again. Amber giggles and cries as Daniel asks her to be his forever ~kiss~ Yes! Yes! That was so beautiful! We're getting married! Amber then goes on about an Indian themed wedding. But wait - shouldn't they save for a new place? A grown up place - with a bedroom. Too bad Daniel didn't keep the reward money.
Ryder may wanna continue playing mind games with Mommy - but Deacon's out. L'il D? He's safe where they can't find him. But announcing that Mommy has a new job for Deacon, Ryder slips an envelope into his pocket - get on it. Guard! Deacon bangs on the door for exit.
Lauren comments that the darkness in Ryder's eyes makes the hair on the back of her neck stand up. When Jana suggests allowing Ryder to move in - to keep an eye on him (and hoping Kevin sees what they do), Mike agrees - it makes sense (though Lauren's uneasy about it).
Ryder's on the phone - yeah, he gave 'it' to him. You know Sharp - he thinks he has a choice. And Kevin should be riding to his rescue any day now (with the reward money). Gotta go, he hangs up. I was just calling you, he lies when Kevin shows up to announce he posted his bail ~hug~
Still in bed, Daniel's eating from a plastic container. Hmm - perhaps it's time Amber start cooking. Daniel thinks they should find other ways to cut corners. And maybe it's time they get jobs. Daniel's in no hurry to paint - but there's other ways for him to express his 'creative genius'. Together, they can handle anything - even without money. We have each other - we're the lucky ones ~kiss~
Cane joins Mac on the patio to chat about poor Lily. Mac's not surprised to hear Lily's forgiven him. But Cane knows that forgetting's not the same as forgiving - and isn't sure Lily will ever get over it.
Lily continues to scold Devon for destroying Roxy - what WERE you thinking? She then announces that she and Cane are back together. As long as she's happy, Devon's OK with it. Yeah, I am, Lily assures.
Arriving at RS the same time as Billy, Chloe watches with interest as Billy and the Newman's discuss him buying RS. Why would they sell to someone who's shirked responsibility his entire adult life? Phyllis stops Billy from leaving - they just want to know what he brings to the table. IF he buys, the current staff stays. He doesn't have a clue what publishing a magazine involves. Chloe stands to agree - but he IS the most 'plugged in' guy she knows. He got us that quote, she reminds. All you need to do is say 'Yes'. And when Billy shows them what he's willing to offer, both Newman's say 'we'll take it'.
Cane knows it was a huge leap of faith for Lily to take him back - and then it was like the bad things that have happened recently went away. But this morning, Lily seemed to be having second thoughts. There's nothing Cane can do to make this go away. Is this a preview of what's to come? Mac suggests it's just the toll the chemo's taking on her body. Billy likely felt the same way - but Mac's now more sure of her future with Billy than ever. Lily will get past it too - just give her time.
When the proud Kevin brings Ryder over to CL's, Mike congratulates him. Ryder's so proud of his 'hero'. And as he walks off for a minute, Kevin wishes his family could at least pretend to be happy for Ryder. And he doesn't even need to ask how the sour faced Jana feels. He's delighted when Jana agrees to one month on the sofa - but any trouble and Ryder's out. Updating the Baldwin's, Kevin now wishes there was some way to expedite his court case. Mike guesses he could represent Ryder - for Kevin - but if he runs, Kevin's not to stop him. You're the best brother, next to me, Kevin says with a hug.
Lily's relieved at Devon's reaction (to her reconciling with Cane) - but never thought he'd be able to identify with him. Devon wishes Roxy could be as forgiving at Cane. Oh look, Roxy's listening. Can we talk? Devon wonders why she came back. Roxy's taken Lily's words to heart - maybe they DO have a chance ~hug~ Cane rejoins Lily (who asks Cane to now redo their first dance). Smiling, the Ashby's sway in one another's arms.
While Daniel's busy kissing Amber, she keeps interrupting with talk of her getting a job at Fenmore's - and maybe he can go back to RS. Be quiet, he finally says ~kiss~
Billy returns to find Mac still on the patio - the Newman's are willing to sell RS. But he's bummed out at how eager they jumped at his offer - and how will he come up with the money?
Back at RS, Chloe thinks the Newman's made a wise decision. Phyllis knows she's thrilled - and why. Yeah, Chloe IS pretty happy - and will need that spa day Phyllis promised her. Alone, Phyllis denies she's having second thoughts. But she's out of a job - any openings at NE? And what does she have to do to get in? ~kiss~
Jana and Mike aren't too enthused with Kevin's commitment to helping Ryder. Aside, Ryder apologizes to Lauren (who likely thinks him a 'wuss' for 'blubbering like that'). Lauren warns him not to mess with Kevin (or her family) - do so, and he'll regret it. Meanwhile, at Indigo, Deacon opens the envelope - and finds a picture of the Baldwin's. 'No way', he rips it in half.
Next: Jack's jaw drops when Kay announces she's decided to reinstate Jill (who smiles- at Jabot ... The Mary Jane Benson look alike confronts Patty in her cell - you couldn't have changed so drastically on your own. Someone had to help you .. Faith is a Newman, Victor reminds. She's also an Abbott, Ashley snarls - and Victor, of all people, wanting to put his stamp on this is the last thing any of them needs.
My thoughts - How badly mismanaged is Indigo? Did Neil not hire a replacement for Tyra? Someone to order coffee (as well as clean the table with her ass)? What kinda club runs out of coffee? And why is Cane volunteering to go out to fetch some? He doesn't even work there anymore. He should be telling customers to head on over to Jimmy's - where the coffee's fresh, hot and plentiful ... According to Nick, NE is not doing so well with Victor laid up in bed - yet he was boasting of what a great job the kids were doing in his absence. Guess he's in for a nasty surprise when the next quarter's figures come out huh? And Nick claims that he's not letting Victor 'off the hook' (regarding his role in Summer reverting back to toddlerhood) - yet, having done nothing but ooh and ah over Victor's ability to walk around his hospital room, I guess he means he's going cheap with this year's Christmas gift? ... Why does Lily give a rat's ass how Neil and Devon will react to her reconciling with Cane? Neil didn't take HER feelings into account when he cheated on Karen with Tyra. Plus she IS living with the man - wouldn't Neil assume they'd get back together? ... If Phyllis is soooo busy at RS, how did she find time to go to Switzerland for weeks? ... Lauren's off to 'check' on Fenmore's. Check for what exactly? And will they even recognize her? ... Chloe feels what Billy does for work is her business because she has a baby to feed? Like her expenses aren't already paid by Katherine? ... If Roxy's distraught to the point that she bails out on her first interaction with Lily (in months), how does she expect her relationship with Devon to succeed? And why does Lily think Roxy so 'amazing'? The girl never took the time to visit her once since she's been battling cancer (and grieving over the loss of her BFF) - and I don't see why Lily's words changed Roxy's mind. There's no comparison between Cane and Devon. Lily wasn't actually cheated on (while Roxy will never erase the image she walked in on. Her boyfriend mounting his pseudo Auntie) ... Mac tells Billy how great it'll be for him to be a voice on what's really going on in the world? Does she know RS is a fashion mag? Not Time Magazine? And where does Nick get off insulting Billy? He wouldn't have his position at NE if Daddy didn't assign it to him. And why does he tell Billy to make an offer - doesn't the 'seller' usually set an asking price? Obviously, Billy's right in his suspicion that he paid more than the magazine's worth ... Daniel loves the ring he got Amber - because it's bright, solid and forever - just like her? If he wanted a ring to symbolize Amber, it should have been cheap and flashy - and fake ... Amber wants to have their reception at the art gallery? Which one? It can't be the one Daniel had his exhibit at - cause that doesn't belong to them. Odd if she's referring to the space below RS that they leased - because they've not mentioned it since. And an Indian themed wedding because they both enjoy 'Tandori'? How about a McWedding? Cause I'm sure they both like Big Mac's too ... More tossing about the word 'hero'. Last week Victor was Vikki's hero - then, Phyllis was Nick's hero - and today, Kevin is Ryder's hero - proving, yet again, that no one in GC comprehends what the word 'hero' actually means ... Why is Mike offering to 'speed up' Ryder's court proceedings? Whatever happened to his vow to stop taking pro bono cases for his family members? ... Nice that Lily and Cane are dancing at the nightclub - but it's kinda weird, being as it's morning and all .... Phyllis offers to go back to NE - to 'whup' everyone into shape? If she's so adept at keeping employees in line, maybe she should start with her editor in chief - the mother in law who bailed out on her duties in favour of mani/pedi's in the Rockies ... Looks like Deacon's next target will be the Badlwin's? Not sure that will pan out - but it'll be refreshing to see these two actually get a storyline (as opposed to being background scenery for the Newman family).
