At Indigo, both Jack and Billy wrap up their meetings. Jack can't help but notice (and comment) that Billy was turned down by the bank manager. He's not surprised - hard for an 'upstart' to get credit these days. Jack's then floored to hear that Billy plans to buy RS Magazine.
Paul's oh so happy to see the woman who dumped him at the alter. Nikki being at CL's must mean that Victor's doing well. Paul then reports that he's been visiting his poor, dillusional sister.
Ashley's visit with Victor starts out friendly enough. Victor's OK with Ashley raising her girls at the ranch and it's a good idea to tell Abby about the divorce together. Ashley planned to do that before the Christening - too bad she 'had to' move it up - to tomorrow. Huh? Why did she 'have to' - and why wasn't Victor told?
Meanwhile, Patty's thrilled to see her look alike, Dr P has come to visit. You came!
Jack can't believe that Phyllis would sell her 'baby' (and that Billy would dance on his grave). He KNEW how much Jack didn't want to sell the rag. It has nothing to do with sticking it back to you - Billy's bringing it back to the Abbott fold. And when Jack launches into reasons he won't succeed, Billy asks him to try - just this once - to give him some credit. He knows what's hot. Jack doesn't think going to some good parties equals having the experience needed. Billy knows he'd never punch through the glass ceiling at Jabot - Colleen's death taught him to make his own breaks. When he gets the capitol he needs, he's gonna run the magazine better than anyone else has. Have a pleasant afternoon, he stomps out. Kay and Jill then need to talk to Jack - about Jabot.
Patty tidies up her padded cell - sit - make yourself comfy. DR P begins by saying the doctor's called - seems Patty will only talk to HER. DR P wonders what happened - according to Patty's landlady, she just packed up and left. Patty gushes on about Jack - and look at the home they share - isn't it fabulous? He hurt you, Dr P reminds. Yeah - but Jack's all grown up - and asked Patty to marry him. Dr P can't help but notice that Patty now looks exactly like HER. You were beautiful the way you were - now, WHO helped with this transformation?
With Victor clearly not impressed that he won't be able to attend the Christening, Ashley explains that Traci, Faith's Godmother, needs to get back to New York. He can be there. The Newman's will be represented by Adam, the Godfather (as well as Nick and Vikki if they choose to attend). Victor sighs - it sounds like Ashley's reciting off a grocery list - is this what it's come to between us?
Over coffee at CL's, Paul continues to talk about Patty - how hard it is to see her like this. But who else will? Certainly not Mary. No - if Paul were a 'good brother' he would have tracked Patty down years ago. Stressing that it's not his fault (nor Victor's), Nikki's then surprised to hear Victor came looking for her the night she left - finding Paul at the church.
After Paul leaves, Nikki's approached by Traci (who's holding up OK and gets a positive report on Victor). Pleased to hear it, Traci's about to leave when Nikki calls her back (to thank her sincerely for the brave decision she made - one that meant so much to the family - and yes, her). Nikki talks about the child she and Jack lost (who's organs they donated). Traci knows that Victor and her sister are divorcing - it's none of her business - but think long and hard before getting involved with Victor again (doubting he'll ever change).
Victor would never imagine them becoming so estranged. Ashley neither - but Traci's going through hell (and needs to be part of something life affirming). Bumping up the Christening wasn't about him - so, let it go. Fine - but Victor asks that she record the ceremony - and see if the private dining room's available - for the reception afterwards. Ashley refuses - this is private gathering not a lavish event. Yes, Faith is a Newman, but she's also an Abbott, and frankly, Victor (of all people) wanting to put a stamp on this is the last thing anyone needs. Of all people? Victor's the child's father. Or has Ashley forgotten that?
Patty blathers on about her and Jack getting married. That's lovely, but Dr P has more questions (about who's behind Patty's surgery). Dr P then bursts Patty's bubble - you and Jack divorced 25 years ago. No, no, Patty denies it - that's horrible! How can she say such a thing?! Jack loves me! Paul rushes in - what's going on? His jaw drops when he sees Dr P.
An excited Patty leaps into Paul's arms - then introduces Dr P, form Minnesota. Emily introduces herself - and is having trouble with this too. She's been brought in to consult. She's my best friend, and knows all my secrets, Patty gushes - and will put on some tea while Paul and Dr P have a word. In the hallway, Emily and Paul update one another on what Patty remembers. She's in a fantasy world, married to Jack. Emily then explains how she met Patty (who was a janitor at the university) - after having regular sessions for a while, she was very worried when Patty disappeared. And now, Emily would like to know how and why Patty underwent surgery? With Paul reluctant to confide, Emily convinces him that she's a friend to be trusted. The sooner she knows, the sooner she can help Patty.
On the CL's patio, Billy announces that he quit Jabot (which was too confining). What if he said he was gonna buy RS - it was made for me. Go for it, Traci encourages. But is she happy enough to loan him the money to buy it? She'll get a nice return. Traci's sorry, but - he shouldn't start a venture in debt. So much could go wrong. Sorry - Traci wishes him all the best.
Joining the ladies at Indigo, Jack wonders how Jill likes answering to Neil. Jill's just glad to be back. What she's not happy with? Jabot - sales are down. Kay chimes in to acknowledge that Jack's family's been through a lot. Jack claims that Jabot's restructuring - and fine with him at the helm. Billy resigned - and Ashley's away on maternity leave. But not to worry - Jack's interviewing some of the top R&D people. Kay thinks it obvious that he needs help - so she's reinstating Jill - as an equal partner. While Jill smiles smugly, Jack's clearly not happy - and says so. It's not an ideal situation. Learn to coexist - starting now, Kay orders. Be patient, she says in parting. Jill thinks it might work. In a pig's eye, Jack snarls - but calms down when Jill approves of what he's been up to at Jabot.
Paul thanks Roger, then hanging up, now knows that Emily is who she says she is (and thanks her for not being offended). He's also grateful that she put her book on hold to help Patty. She's aware of Jack Abbott - did her give her the time of day? Paul confides that Patty seduced him (according to Jack). Patty was manipulated into thinking she had another shot at happily ever after'. By whom? Has Patty ever heard the name Victor Newman?
Ashley returns to Victor's room - are we calmer now? Perhaps we should table this. Til after the Christening? Victor balks - when he'll have no input on the Christening? And when Ashley accuses Victor of trying to take control of everything, Victor thinks her hypocritical. She wants her girl's raised on the Newman ranch - yet Victor's not to want to shout proudly that they're Newman's. Ashley won't stand for more Newman's vs. Abbott's. Victor doesn't give a damn about the Abbott's. Be humble - for Traci's sake, she shouts - the woman who's daughter died so YOU could live! When Billy pops his head in, Ashley tells him to butt out. Victor can't believe that Ashley would come in to start a fight with him - after he's been through heart surgery. He wants BOTH of them out - NOW.
STILL at CL's, Nikki's now joined by Kay, the two discussing, what else, Victor. Kay's not all that surprised to hear about the divorce - but of the timing. Nikki agrees, it's a shame about the baby. Both also agree that Nikki and Victor were destined to be together. But knowing they may actually have a future, Nikki's now scared to death.
With Faith down for a nap, Billy can't help but be happy that Ashley's taking over Victor's ranch - after all that bastard's done to their family. You've always watched out for me, Ashley smiles ~hug~ Oh, what a good man and brother Billy is. He's actually there for a favour - he has a life changing opportunity that he hopes she can help make happen.
Jill and Jack continue to debate aspects of Jabot - disagreeing on the men's line. Jack takes a call - why there? I'm on my way. We'll continue this - at the office, Jill warns (as she too makes a call - to Skip Maxwell - she has his first press release. The headline? Jill Abbott back in charge at Jabot - right where she belongs).
Billy makes his pitch to Ashley (not able to go to Kay or his Mom. Turned down by the banks, she's his last hope). Yes - Ashley will lend him the money to buy RS! Billy's thrilled - you always believed in me. Ashley predicts great things for Billy ~hug~ How great that they both have their heads screwed on straight. Ashley can focus on her girls, all she really cares about.
Kay thinks it wonderful that Victor wants Nikki, again. But Nikki can't forget that not so long ago, Victor wanted her dead. Even Traci warned her that he'll never change. Will Victor still mean what he's said when he's well?
Oh look, and here's a nurse 'Maime' to give Patty her meds - and can she hold dinner? Jack will be a bit late. Take the meds - good girl, she's urged. Now alone, Patty hums happily to herself as she tidies her hair in the mirror (akas the cell's tiny window).
Jack enters Victor's room. What's he doing there? the patient wonders. He was summoned. By whom? Me, Paul arrives - with someone they need to meet. It'll be shocking and he's worried Victor's heart can't take it. I can take anything, Victor boasts. Both Jack and Victor are stunned when Paul brings Emily in.
Next: You're are a little jealous, Chloe teases. No, Chance isn't jealous - he's DONE ... I have your check, Billy tells the grim faced Newman's - is there a problem? ... Jack tells Emily - it's not easy taking on bullies like this. You might need a friend. If I needed a friend, you'd be the last person I'd turn to, Emily replies.
My Thoughts: Having warned Jill and Jack to get along, how will Kay react to Jill's blatant attempt to push Jack's buttons? If EITHER cared about the company as much as they claimed to, they'd have released a joint statement (lying about how glad they are to be working together) ... Billy knows he'll make RS a success because he knows what folks 'his age' want to read? Huh? He's not saying that Nick and Phyllis Newman are old, is he? I know what ladies in their 40's (though you'd never know it) would like to read - doesn't make me qualified to do anything other than buy the magazines I like. And what does Billy know about fashion? He divorced the only connection he had to fashion ... Of course Mary's not gonna visit her crazed daughter - just like she didn't bother to come visit her son when he was dumped by Nikki on the eve of his wedding. Surely, Paul coulda used a motherly hug THEN ... Why would Traci feel the need to warn Nikki away from Victor? She's not been close to either - and having married Victor numerous times before, why would Nikki take the advice of a virtual stranger? (and as Ashley's sister, it's not like Traci's completely objective) ... I still don't understand why a woman who vows not to use 'her' baby as a weapon, would rush a Christening so that the child's father couldn't possibly be in attendance. Why not Christen the child in the hospital's chapel? Who can blame Victor for being pissed (and it's not like he couldn't have fought Ashley on ownership of the ranch) .... Dr P tells Patty that she must have had surgery - gee - ya think? And since Patty somehow got a photo of the shrink (to model herself after), the shrink must be somewhat reknowned (as it's doubtful the DR's gonna just hand over an 8X10 to any crazy patient who asks for one). So, why did Paul have to call 'Roger' for verification on Dr P - why didn't he just do a quick Google on his phone? Surely, Dr P would have come up. But Paul never tires of asking favour of his many connections ... And how many times must Dr P ask who paid for Patty's surgery - isn't the 'why' of more importance? Couldn't Patty have stolen the cash? Or won the lottery? Got a loan? Sold her body? Snagged a rich boyfriend? Found (and pawned) something of value in the trash cans she used to clean? ... Kay and Nikki both think it a cryin' 'shame' that Victor and Ashley are divorcing so soon after having a baby (like this is uncommon in GC - look how fast new parents Chloe and Billy lasted) .... If Jack still feels so possessive of RS, and now knows that Phyllis is looking to sell, why wouldn't he try to outbid Billy? If he doesn't, then he really has no reason to whine about Billy 'dancing on his grave' .. Billy's been turned down by 'every bank in town'? Not one of em would take his sizeable trust fund as collateral? If they all think him doomed to fail, why is he so confident he'll succeed? And did 'every bank in town' send an agent over to Indigo to meet Billy? Why would they invest in someone who can't even be bothered to meet the loans officer in his or her own office?
