Kay finds Paul and Jill (who claim to be) 'catching up' at the club (but can't join them as she's meeting Neil). Of course Paul doesn't mind if Jill takes a raincheck (to go with the mildly suspicious Kay).
Lily and Cane joke about the retro cookbook - as she bandages the thumb 'his majesty' injured peeling potatoes. Mentioning that Devon and Roxy are on their way to a concert, Lily assures she's feeling fine. Noticing her forehead's hot, Cane doesn't buy that it's due to Lily slaving over a hot stove - or being close to her hot husband.
Seated at CL's, Jack agrees - maybe it's NOT the job for Dr P. They need someone open minded (while she has an 'irreversible' attitude towards him). Reverse psychology? No - Jack's not playing games. He DOES feel responsible for damaging Patty - he was young and stupid - his thoughtless actions obviously cut deep. Emily can help in ways no one else can - too bad if she can't appreciate that he'll do everything he can to help Patty.
Back in Jabot's boardroom, Neil reports response to his 'feelers' has been positive - they're chomping at the bit to buy CI stock. Once paperwork's filed with the SEC the secret will be out - and Jack will know (and be first in line). Neil's sure he'll buy as many shares as he can (to regain control of Jabot). Agreeing, Kay won't underestimate Jack's shrewdness.
Jack denies he's manipulating Dr P - he merely recommended her for a job. A newly created one, she points out. Nope - Jack allocated the funds months ago. She was offered the job because of her qualifications. Emily admits she WAS interested in the job - and it would allow her to continue treating Patty. Yeah, so why turn down a great opportunity because of her low opinion of Jack?
Billy's gathered his RS staff at Jimmy's Bar (where Chloe's desk is now a bar soaked table). Never mind that - and forget puppies and purses. Billy's gonna find the 'miss' in 'miscreant'. We're gonna publish RS in a bar! If anyone can do it, HE can, Chloe voices support (and not because she's the mother of his child - more like 'in spite' of it). Unimpressed, Mac scowls at the crowd of non paying loiterers, and after they leave, approaches - what happened to using the magazine for something positive? Profile a regular everyday hero - someone who goes above of beyond - like the 19 year old girl who sacrificed her education so her siblings wouldn't have to go into foster care. And when Chloe suggests a quarter page, Billy surprises Mac by saying he'll base the whole issue on an 'every day hero' - find one. Great idea.
In the chemo treatment room, Lily and Cane chat with her old pal Harry. They always swoon around me, he quips when Lily looks faint. Helped into a seat, she complains of stomach cramps - and with a temperature of 103.5, the doctor's summoned.
Meeting at the club, Nina needs Paul's advice on Chance (who's polite and withdrawn - but angry underneath - and who can blame him?) She relays his outburst - and wonders who Paul reconnected with his adult daughter. Paul's working on it, but regrets abandoning Heather (who he tries to 'be there' for now). Don't expect too much too fast, Paul advises. Nina worries Philip will walk again (which would hurt Chance yet again).
At Jimmy's, Chloe and Billy reminisce about the good times - a dumpster pool party in Brooklyn. As they laugh, Chance arrives to pick up Murphy's favourite sandwiches (which Mac goes to check on). Chance thought Chloe had a meeting. I did, Chloe assures - the staff just left. You don't believe me? Chance knows what he just saw (and sandwiches in hand, leaves with a cool 'see ya').
Still in the boardroom, Kay ends her call with Mitchell - then updates Jill and Neil that they'll work on the SEC paperwork in HIS office (away from prying eyes). Offering to gather the info, Neil accepts Jill's help. When Cane calls, Neil says he'll be late for dinner - then is stunned to hear Lily's in the hospital with a fever. I'm on my way! Wheeled out, a frightened Lily calls out to Cane. I'm right with you baby, he follows closely.
At CL's, Emily excuses herself to take a call on the patio. It's Dean Lambert (wanting an answer). Entering the patio, Billy races inside to tell Jack he needs to leave - before 'she' sees him. Patty Williams is here! As Jack tries to calm his brother down, Chance approaches - then proceeds in arresting the good doctor when she walks in. Whaddaya mean - it's not Patty!? - she's right there, a confused Billy points at the woman Chance has a firm grip on.
Back at the club's restaurant, Nina ignores a call from her agent - knowing he wants progress on the screenplay. How can she put her family's pain and struggle out there for everyone to see? She needs to present it without hurting anyone. Maybe she'll go with another angle - with Jill not Kay's daughter, there's an heir to the Chancellor fortune out there, somewhere. Interesting, both agree.
With one call, Chance confirms that Patty's still locked up (and apologizes to the understanding Dr P). She's no evil twin, she corrects Billy - she's mentally ill. One sick puppy, Billy adds (as Jack frowns in disapproval - then makes introductions). Yes - Billy's the one who 'exploited Patty' - and now wonders if Emily's the reason Jack didn't want her included in the article. I'm sure you've got other back's to stab, Jack walks off (leaving Billy to make small talk with Chance - then taking a call regarding a meeting with advertisers, he doesn't want to do it at Jimmy's - book at private room at the club). You're working out of the bar? Realizing Chloe was telling the truth, Chance calls to leave a message - I owe you a huge apology - call me.
When Chloe stops by Nina and Paul's table to comment that what happened between Chance and Philip was 'great', Nina makes it clear she doesn't want to talk to her about it. You're only interested in his name (which is why she tricked Cane). Chloe reminds that she did the same thing with Philip - then changed. Give Chance more credit, she says. Smiling widely when her phone rings, Chloe makes a hasty exit. Nice seeing you Paul - have a nice day. Cane you believe her? Nina rolls her eyes about.
Neil speeds in to join Lily (who's wrapped up in bed, Cane fussing over her). The doctor quietly tells Neil that Lily over responded to her chemo. I could die if my temperature goes up, right? Lily shivers in bed. How serious is this? Neil asks. We HAVE to bring her fever down, the doctor answers gravely.
Why Paul's big smile? Oh, the irony. Nina's conversation with Chloe sounded just like ones she used to have with Jill. I'm not like Jill, Nina balks - Chloe's in love with Billy. That's what YOU want to see - Paul thinks she likes Chance. Bite your tongue, Nina can't help but smile. Now with Chance at CL's, Chloe milks his apology - knowing he'd figure it out. He IS a detective after all.
Also still at CL's, Jack and Emily talk about Billy's article - is it true Jack didn't want him to write about Patty? Yes, it might matter. And she better get used to being mistaken for Patty. You took the job!? Jack's left to grin.
Now with Mac at Jimmy's, Billy tells her about Patty's look alike shrink - it's creepy. And it's the last time he'll try to protect Jack. Mac knows he doesn't mean that - Jack's approval's important to him. I'm on your side ~kiss~ Oh, what a lucky couple they are.
Delirious, Lily murmurs about adding onions to her recipe - should invite Dad. I'm her, Neil pipes up .... The doctor's awaiting tests to indicate the correct antibiotic. Cane reassures the feverish Lily - they'll have the dinner tomorrow. He LIKES 'mush'. And as Cane tenderly mops Lily's face, Neil watches helplessly.
Back in the boardroom, Jill worries about Lily - and Cane. She DOES feel like his mother. You don't have to be blood to be family, she and Kay agree - both pleased to be stuck with one another. You can rely on me - always, Kay offers. Thanking her, Jill takes a call from Neil (who reports 'it's bad' - Cane needs you). Sure enough, Cane's having a complete (if not convincing) melt down at the elevators.
Next: Are you attempting a takeover? Cause I'm not interested, Ashley hisses at Jack (who instructs her to 'do this - get as many shares of this company ...') ... Chloe brings a large envelope to Jimmy's. Divorce papers. Are they signed? Billy wonders. Not yet, Chloe tosses them on the counter ... At CL's, a knife wielding bandit demands Gloria hand over the cash. Hurry up! Witnessing it, Chance looks ready to intervene.
My Thoughts: Where is Murphy going (on his 'trip') that he needs sandwiches picked up? If he wants Mac to make his 'favourite' sandwiches, why can't she do it at home? And what's wrong with Ester's sandwiches? Is the coffee that bad at Jimmy's? If he was going to CL's anyway, why not get the sandwiches there (which he may have to do - as it looks like her forgot the large bag of sandwiches) ... Odd that when Chance calls Chloe - her phone appears to be off. But minutes later, Chloe's phone rings - when she takes a call from someone else (not Chance - cause she'd have been sure to mention it to Nina) ... Coverage of Prince Charles' visit to Canada's East Coast ran into the show by about 5 minutes - but I don't believe anything was preempted ... Of course Lily's overheating - she's wearing a wooly touque - inside - while cooking pot roast ... Why would it be 'mush' the next day? Don't the Ashby's ever eat leftovers? It's not like she has to leave it in the oven at 350 for the next 24 hours - duh. Since she 'cooked for an army' did Lily really think they'd be eating it all in one night? It's a pretty dismal sign when you don't have anyone at all to invite over for a free pot roast dinner. Poor Lily - her one and only friend is dead ... Realizing they can't very well plan taking CI public in Jabot's boardroom, Kay wrangles office space from Mitchell Sherman - begs again the question - doesn't CI have it's own boardroom? .. Speaking of unlikely working space - Billy was actually foolish enough to vacate RS's office? Didn't he consult a lawyer? The staff's no longer 9-5, they're 5 - close. Are they OK with being switched from day shift to an evening shift? What about the computers, fax and print machines, phones, desks at RS? Didn't Billy buy those? He was so damn proud of that coat rack and plant - did he bring those over to Jimmy's? Why can't Billy work out of the Abbott mansion? Or his trailer ever? Is he paying Mac for renting her space? (cause it's not like everyone's spending money all day) ... Why has RS's staff been reduced to about 5 employees? What happened to the rest of them? Phyllis assured all that their jobs were secure - and where's George? We've 'set the bar high', Billy quips (since they're in a bar n' all) ... Sorry - but Cane's 'spontaneous' break down was the lamest acting I've seen in eons. If Lily has a fever and infection, shouldn't those around her be sterile - and wearing masks? Instead, Cane's leaning over her - pawing away at her face (with his bandaged thumb) .... Funny how Billy recognized 'Patty' in side profile from a good few feet away ... It's ridiculous to hear Paul spew on about abandoning his daughter Heather - whom he trying to 'be there for' now. Will he be having the exact same conversation about his abandoned son, Ricky - in a few years? How can Paul claim to regret it - WHILE totally ignoring his young son?
