While Lily stuns Neil with the news that she and Cane are ready to try have a baby, Murphy updates Mac that Chance was stabbed. Nina comes out to report the doctors are trying to repair Chance's spleen - if unsuccessful, the organ will be removed. He's gonna be OK, Philip and Jill try to convince themselves.

In Nick's office, Phyllis hears about his plan to compensate those who lost in the Cayman's. Oh, how sexy Nick is when being 'socially responsible'. Jack arrives - and is chided about Billy's article. He's impressed with Nick's plan - proclaiming him a better business man that Victor was. OK - want 'real' sincere - he hates Nick's Dad. Jack's there to make amends - starting with a bottle of champagne - to toast Nick being on the throne (may it always be his).

While Billy's lawyer assures he'll be in an office space soon, a worried Chloe is busy texting Chance (whom she should have heard from by now). As she leaves, Billy explains they aren't brother and sister - they're divorced (so now Chloe's free to chase whatever boy scout floats her boat). Outside, Chloe calls Chance - but gets Jill (and hears he's been 'hurt').

Back in Lily's room, Neil isn't sure having a baby is a great idea. Going to check on Kay, he waits while Cane gives Lily a quick good bye kiss. Too bad about Chance - but they did get some amazing news today.

Chatting on the phone with Lauren, Phyllis flips through her mail - and opening a letter addressed to Summer (in bold childish print), races off.

Still in Nick's office, the boys ditch the champagne in favour of Scotch. Jack pours as he Nick gripes about him costing NE a lot of money. Tipping his glass, Jack's proud of him (but Nick guesses he's not there to play proud stepfather - he's there looking for a weakness). Nick's fully aware that he's not his father - but he's learned to watch his back. Knowing Jack wrote the article WITH Billy, Nick wonders what happened between the brothers. Jack dodges the question - and segues into the subject of Kay - has he spoken to her recently? As Nick wonders what it is Jack's looking for, Billy barges in to deposit some paperwork on his desk - there's no way he can be booted from his office space.

Jill suggests Cane go talk to Kay (who's very worried about him). And as Cane goes to hug Kay, Jill consoles Philip (who was so close to mending the rift between him and Chance). Jill knows he now fears he won't get that chance (the same way SHE felt after Philip's car accident). She's not there to come down on him for being a 'born runner'. Jill vows to stand by him through this ~hug~

Inviting Chloe to sit with her (in Memorial's lounge), Kay goes on about young people being in pain - and danger - it makes her so angry. Chloe reflects on the soldier/cop - the John Wayne who laughs at her little girl. Think about the way he looks at YOU, Kay corrects. Chloe does - and likes it. Nina listens as Chloe relays the way Chance laughs with her, not at her. She signed the divorced papers - she and Billy are done - and all she wants to do is tell Chance. You'll get to tell him, Kay assures with a hug (as Nina frowns on).

Still in Nick's office, Billy gripes about Nick's temper tantrum - throwing him out was a power play; an illegal one. No, Jack's not there as Billy's wing man - he's alone, just the way Billy wants it. Nick has Adam, Jack has Billy (who balks at the comparison). Forget that - Billy gets back to illegalities in Nick throwing him out (the contract states nothing about the magazine's content). Taking the documents to 'legal', Nick leaves the sniping brothers to talk amongst themselves. What the hell's wrong with you? Billy snaps - you wanna divorce me too? To Billy, my ex brother, Jack obliges with a toast - then empties his glass.

Patty's delighted when Phyllis comes to visit (until she makes it clear that she's not buying this 'schtick'). And what's this? Phyllis holds out the 'get well' letter Patty doesn't remember writing to Summer. Are you Summer? No, Summer's the daughter she tried to kill. I love children, Patty beams - Jack and are are going to ... Livid, Phyllis hisses in her face - you're lucky to be locked up here. If you were on the streets, you should feel very, very afraid.

In Memorial's hallway, Neil wastes no time scolding Cane for pressuring Lily into having a baby. He sees Cane's destroyed over Lily being sick - but he put a stop to this baby talk. She only has two eggs - what will he do if it doesn't happen? What's Cane supposed to do? Crush Lily's dreams? Hearing they already have a surrogate, in Mac, Neil's left to shake his head in disapproval.

In another lounge area, Murphy does indeed remember all the names of his friends who died 'in the field' - it still gets to him. He's not saying Chance won't make it, but ... He and Mac then talk of the joy of babies - the one perfect thing in the world.

Still in Patty's face, Phyllis hopes she's afraid - you only terrorize people who can't fight back. You have to deal with ME, she gives her a shake. Arriving, Dr P wonders what's going on - as a terrified Patty runs into her arms. You've gotta be kidding me, Phyllis mutters. Dr P suggests Phyllis give them some privacy - or should she summon the police? Phyllis huffs out - and squaring off in the hallway is indignant that Dr P threatens to call the police on HER (while patting that 'freak' on the back). This is a hospital, Dr P states the obvious - where the fragile, unstable Patty's a patient. Phyllis is aghast - she stole your face! That doesn't bother you? She tried to kill my daughter! Yes - I'm Phyllis - and what is THIS! she hands over the crumpled letter. You're the doctor - what does it mean?! This is my fault, Dr P admits - blame ME.

Hands still on her hips, Phyllis is told the letter wasn't intentional - she and her patient talk about responsibility - the letter might be remorse - and apology - not an attack. Phyllis isn't interested in the psycho babble - or Patty's sadness - not after what she did to her family. Do you even have a degree? If you pity that freak, you're as insane as she is - stay away from my family. Trust me on THAT.

Billy's still whining about Jack throwing him under the buss - in front of Newman. But that particular Newman's like family to Jack (Billy, not so much). Jack then rants about the career opportunities he's passed up in his bid to get Jabot back - so he, Ashley and Billy could run it. But Billy's ruined that dream too - good for you! Nick returns to say they'll honour the injunction - but if he can find a loophole, Billy's back on the streets. He then gets a text from 'the only family he has left' - excuse me, Billy scurries out.

So mac just offered to carry your child? No prompting from YOU? Neil's suspicious. Cane asks him to think about it. Lily is, Neil knows - she's decorating the nursery - and might even think of the baby as her final gift to Cane. In 5 years Lily will be considered 'cancer free' - why not wait til then? She needs this NOW, Cane argues. Coming to the hospital, they feared Lily might die - and now she has a future. Don't stand in her way. Cane respects Neil enough to ask him - no beg him - please don't take hope away from Lily.

How's Chance? Lily awakens to ask Cane. He's still in surgery. Lily knows Neil got to him - and he no longer wants to have the baby. No, Cane does want a baby - they'll talk when she gets out of there. Lily wants to plan NOW - and wants a baby 'no matter what'. Cane needs to hear Lily say she's not just wanting to leave a piece of her behind should she die. Asking for her make up kit, Lily brings out 'Colleen's charm'. Putting it around her neck, Cane doesn't think it enough to plan a future on. But this charm os our truth - our family, Lily insists. If they want it enough, it'll happen.

When Billy blows in, he wonders where Cane is - does he get a pass? Huh? He's in with Lily, Jill frowns. It's a misunderstanding, Mac mutters - as she leads the frustrated and apologetic Billy away. And as he babbles about his crazy day, Billy mentions divorce papers, fighting his eviction, and Jack ... Mac shuts him up to inform that Chance just got stabbed. And Lily? Better - and she wants to have a baby. It IS possible - if they have a surrogate. Yes - Lily WOULD make a great Mom. And since Mac's not really helping anyone, she wants to 'make a difference' - see how everyone lit up at Faith's christening? Mac needs a purpose. As Billy wonders what it is she's trying to say, Kay interrupts to summon Billy away. Well aware of his 'stupid stunts', she loves him anyway. Remember that - no matter what happens.

Philip comforts a worried sick Nina. She worried while he was in Iraq - then when he joined the police force. He was buying muffins for his family, she cries at the irony. You don't get to be scared, she then lashes out - you left us. Philip won't leave - I'm here - I'm not going anywhere. I'm sorry, Nina sobs in his arms.

Nick's upset to hear Phyllis didn't tell him about Patty's letter to Summer - and that she went to see her, alone. Oh, but they weren't alone - her twin, the doctor was there. And neither think it's a big deal that a child almost died, Phyllis rants - not sure which one she wants to strangle first; the blond or brunette Patty.

At the bar, a martini in front of her, Dr P cuts off Jack's greeting - she's not in the mood to hear about his guilt - or how much he wants to help Patty - and she sure as hell doesn't want him to kiss her. Phyllis Newman cornered her wreck of a patient. Why now? Because Patty sent Summer a letter. She doesn't know what year it is - never mind proper victim etiquette. Of course Dr P didn't say that to 'Red'. Jack explains what a great kid Summer is - and how Phyllis found her unconscious, then couldn't be with her (suspected of causing reaction). Phyllis sees a woman who almost killed her daughter. Jack's just thankful Patty can't get out to wreak more havoc. In her cell, Patty murmurs Jack's name - come back - come back.

Joining the Ashby's, Neil relays that the family sends their love. No, he didn't mention the baby. Yes, as a parent, he DOES have to be afraid of his daughter getting her heart broken. Do you want to be a grandfather? Lily prods. Yes, Neil admits - some day. OK - well, 'some day' might be sooner than he thinks.

OK - before anyone else can interrupt, what is it Mac wanted to tell Billy? That she offered to carry a baby for Lily and Cane? No - it's not gonna happen - not a chance, Billy says with complete confidence and determination.

The doctor comes out to report that they were able to stop the internal bleeding - Chance is in recovery right now. Nina darts over as Chance is wheeled out. He's so pale - will he be OK? All follow the gurney down the hall - except a teary eyed Chloe. Thank you, she whispers with a relieved sigh.

Next: Tell him (Mike) where you were the night of the shooting, Kevin demands of Ryder (who tells him to 'just leave it alone, OK?') ... It doesn't mean you're over Billy, Nina tells Chloe. Well, she IS - and Chloe's gonna prove it ... I love you - and so does your father, Ashley tries to loudly convince Abby. Which father, Abby snarls - the one who's dead - or the one you drove out of the country!?

My Thoughts: Funny that Dr P's 'client/DR' confidentiality prevents her from talking to Phyllis - but not Jack ... 'He was buying pastries. He was buying muffins', Nina sobs - make up your mind - was it pastries or muffins? And how can she think of food at a time like this? ... Of course Neil wants to be a grandfather - but why is that all on Lily? Devon could be impregnating Roxy as we speak - and really, he's just as much Neil's kid as Lily ... Weird that Nina didn't think to ask if a person can live without a spleen (or that the doctor didn't quickly assure that the spleen IS an organ folks can live without). Nina could have been asking if there's a list for spleen donors (and calling Traci to see if Colleen has any spare parts on ice). He's so pale, she frets. Well yeah - he's lost blood. But it's nothing a trip to the tanning beds (or some of Lily's make up) can't fix. She IS just down the hall ... How does Philip figure he and Chance were 'so close' to fixing this 'rift'? Didn't Chance just call him a coward? If Philip's a 'born runner' - it's too bad he didn't try out for the Olympic track team ... It's good for Philip to get a dose of 'losing a child' fear - maybe he can better appreciate what he put Jill through (when he faked his death and ran away to NOT have sex with men) ... What exactly does Cane think Neil can do to dissuade his grown daughter from having a baby? And why would Lily already be decorating the nursery? There's already one there - decorated by Chloe (the only thing left was the stars on the ceiling - cause Lily yelled at Chloe til she fell off the ladder). Convenient that Lily brought her make up kit to the hospital - and that it contained Colleen's charm. But why is it jammed in the make up bag? If she had her dead BFF's lucky charm around her neck in the first place, maybe she wouldn't have got the infection .... Did Jack actually ask Dr P if she knew Summer? How WOULD she? She just got to town ... Oh, where to begin - like, where did Patty get the paper and pencil to write Summer's letter? Weren't the staff afraid the fragile and unstable patient would jam the pencil in her eye (or someone elses) or sumthin'? ... Doesn't anyone monitor the letters patients are sending? Especially when addressed to a child? ... Having no idea who Summer even is, how did Patty know the Newman's address? How is it that anyone manages to walk in off the street to access a patient in a padded cell? Couldn't they have cameras installed to monitor padded cells? (Kevin could install them in a matter of minutes) ... Why did Phyllis take all her mail from home - to read her personal mail while being paid to work at NE? ... Did you lace this with peanut dust? Phyllis hisses in Patty's face (but if Phyllis was as devious as she once was, she would have done that herself - then charged Patty again) But - has Patty even BEEN charged? ... Oh yeah - Vikki woulda fought - but instead she's playing the role of Mrs Hellstrum ... What has Nick done for Jack to be so gosh darn proud of him? The way he swivels around in Victor's chair? The way he's managed to keep the office bar fully stocked? .. Nick and Kay are 'very good friends' - and that's 'not news to anyone'? No? It's news to me (and likely to Kay too - who's very good friends with Nick's Mommy) ... Patty's been 'manipulated and taken advantage of'? Too bad, Phyllis has no sympathy - 'haven't we all' she snipes with a straight face (actually - no - 'all' haven't - some DO the manipulating - like, oh, I dunno - Phyllis for example. Ask Danny - or Brad - or Sasha Green) ... Jack pelted with raw eggs? Is that better than being pelted with hard boiled eggs? S'OK - Estella's there to clean the carpets (despite being innocent of the charges that cost her the job she loved for years and years - pelt away ... Jack's not exactly 'swimming' in friends or family right now? Could that be because most of his family is swimming WITH the fishes? ... If Billy has a lawyer, why isn't he having any pertinent paperwork SERVED to Nick (or rather Nick's lawyer) - instead of delivering it in person (driving across town after drinking beers at Jimmy's of course). Odd that the man who just 'skewered' Victor in his magazine, wasn't stopped at NE's front reception desk - cause of course the executive receptionist wasn't at HER desk either - maybe the two receptionists are off having lunch together somewhere, chuckling over this month's issue of RS magazine ... How did it come about that the lawyer realized Chloe has the same last name as Billy? It's not like SHE'D have to sign anything related to the battle for RS's office space. And does the lawyer really need to hear Billy's childish musings that Chloe's now free to chase any boys scout she wants? HE'S the one in a relationship before the marriage ended - with a girl scout ... Did Nikki even get a chance to clear out her Editor In Chief desk? ... Chance looks at Chloe like she's a genius - because she created Delia? Yes - cause it's the really smart girls who have babies out of wedlock (and the brilliant ones who manage to pin it on two different brothers) ... With Nick knowing he wrote the article with Billy, it's too bad Nick didn't hear Jack proudly boasting (to Victor - in his own living room no less) that forging the journal was his greatest triumph. He might not be so eager to give Jack his Scotch. Too bad Nikki didn't tell Nick about that conversation before running off to Belgium ... Nick's gonna have 'legal' look at Billy's contract very carefully - and he'll be out in the streets again if they can find a loophole. But wait - he just took the contract down to 'legal' - didn't they just look it over carefully? Wonder when that contract was even signed - certainly wasn't when Billy brought over Ashley's check ... When Jack was moaning on and on about Daddy's dream of them running Jabot, it's too bad Billy didn't remind 'John Abbott JR' about manipulating the confused old man into changing his will. And why is Traci always left out of Daddy's legacy? ... Poor Mac - running Jimmy's isn't 'helping' anyone. Of course it is - it housed a psychotic woman on the run, provides Billy an office, the locals cheap beer, underage kids a place to party to crash, Daniel and Amber a place to have sex....
