Dropping by the mausoleum, Billy's told that Delia's sleeping - and Chloe's at the hospital. He then gripes to Kay about everyone welcoming Cane back - what will it take to get this jerk out of our family?
Meanwhile, at CL's, Cane observes a young couple with a baby. That could be you guys, Mac appears to enthuse. Having passed her physical, there's no reason she can't be a surrogate.
Chloe gives Chance a gift - a deck of cards (with which they can play Rummy). She also bought some juice. Chance doesn't mind the gourmet hospital food (which is better than what he got 'in the field'). Listing the ingredients in an 'Awesome Aussie', Chloe yanks it away when Chance reveals he's allergic to kiwi. Chloe has an allergy too - to polyester. Oh - there's so much they don't know about one another. No, Chance hasn't heard from Philip since he left.
Likewise, in the hallway, Nina's grumbling about Philip ducking out without even saying good bye - Chance is hurt. How gutless - he's not even answering her calls. Reminding that Philip was there all night, Jill's sure he'll show up soon - give him some time. Poor Philip, Nina's not exactly sympathetic (causing Jill to suggest it's Nina who's feeling abandoned).
Petting Kitty Kitty, Paul listens to Jill's message (asking if she's made any progress in finding Kay's daughter). Knock knock - it's Philip - who updates on Chance being stabbed. Yeah, Nina's a wreak (so maybe Paul can go hold her hand).
Daniel explains he can't marry Amber - because he'll soon be on the hook for murder - again. Daniel won't get married if he's going to prison for the next 20 years. End of discussion.
Chloe and Chance get to know one another - favourite bands - movies. Chloe's not sure she can be a good girlfriend - and Chance has never been in a relationship. Chloe knows that guys look at her for a good time - not a long time, and goes to get something that will help him understand (despite Chance begging 'don't leave').
Philip now has kitty Kitty on his lap (and is told who gave it the bizarre name). Paul will stick by his sister - even through the rough times. She's family, he shrugs. No - that's NOT a 'dig' - but Paul's gotta ask - why is Philip there (and not at GCM)? Hearing Philip doesn't feel he has the 'right' to be there, Paul talks of his relationship with Heather. You've gotta show up - even when you don't feel welcome. Paul's willing to go to GCM - but he can't take Philip's place.
In the lounge, Jill and Nina continue to NOT see eye to eye on Philip. Both are glad he's alive - but do they KNOW him? They sure didn't 20 years ago - when he faked his death to get away from them. Nina has to consider that Philip (who's been living another life) might just be a selfish, crappy guy. No! Jill KNOWS her son - he has a good heart. Well, Nina won't just stand by and let HER son's heart be 'screwed' with - ya hear?!
Cane updates Mac on Lily's condition - and doesn't look forward to going home to an empty house. Enjoy the quiet, Mac suggests (as it won't be when the baby comes). Cane points out that it's a one shot deal - he's terrified how Lily will handle it (if it doesn't work). Mac's sure it will - her physical went OK - and she'll schedule the psych evaluation ASAP. She's even spoken to Baldwin. Speaking of being prepared - and Mac hates to bring it up - but has Cane considered that he might have to raise this baby alone? Obviously, Cane prays that won't happen - but if it does - he'll raise and love the baby. Mac knows he'll be a great father. Billy? He's struggling. Cane can't blame him - it effects their relationship. Mac's sure he'll come around.
At that moment - Billy's NOT coming around (where it concerns Cane). Kay explains that technically she's no more related to Billy (than she is Cane) - BUT - he'll always be her grandson. How does Kay forgive? She just decided to. She doesn't approve of the article on Victor - but still loves Billy - just like she finds a way to love Jill. Yes, but Cane's a 'different story' - he's lied - and taken things that weren't his (like Delia) - and for this, Billy will NEVER accept Cane as part of HIS family. 'Oh Billy, Billy, Billy, Billy' *sigh*
Nina's thrilled to see Paul at GCM ~hug~ Philip asked you to come? 'Hard for HIM to be here'? What's Nina supposed to tell her son? Your Dad cut and run - again? How stupid she was to encourage Chance to let his guard down. Paul knows, from experience, how hard it is. Parenting? Easy? He's just passing the buck, Nina huffs.
At the book store, Philip selects a book - then reads a few lines before deciding to buy it. Meeting Chloe on his way out, he asks how Chance is doing. Go see for yourself, Chloe suggests.
Daniel refuses to make anymore wedding plans - I won't do that to you! You don't trust my love for you, Amber's voice gets increasingly louder - I'd come visit - every day! Daniel manages to bring Deacon into it, then rants about Amber having no family; no kids. I don't want anyone but YOU, Amber screeches. You want to be alone!? Fine - she rips the ring off her finger and plunks it down. There - you're alone! As she marches out, a frustrated Daniel flings his file holder at the door.
Back at the book store, Chloe's buying a book for Chance - Breakfast at Tiffany's. It changed her life. Chloe wanted to be just like Holly Golightly. So did I, Philip invokes a chuckle. He's also buying Chance a book - The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin (which he used to read to him as a kid). Perhaps it will help them reconnect. When Philip struggles over how to inscribe it, Chloe suggests that being at the hospital is more important (and following her own advice, gets going - see ya).
Paul entertains Nina and Chance by showing off his scars - this one here, hold your stomach's folks - 29 stitches - for a grand total of 173. Chocolates? From the chief, Paul guesses - it's an old GCPD tradition. As a kid, Paul used to hope his father got sent to the hospital (so he'd get a box). And who's Mary? Oh Yes - Paul has a mother - who worries even more than Nina does. And though Chance's laughter causes him some pain, Nina credits Philip with sending Paul over. When Nina can't say if his father's coming back, Chance looks like a sad little boy.
What did I do now? Daniel sighs - then makes a call. 'Perfect', he snaps (when ringing comes from the purse left behind). He then picks up the ring Amber left behind - and grabbing his jacket, hurries out.
Darling - come in, Kay welcomes Daniel. Seen Amber? We had a little fight, he explains - nothing serious. Chuckling, Kay offers some pearls of wisdom. Daniel better get going - can't have Amber wandering around out there in the cold. His next stop? CL's - where he's again unsuccessful. Amber is indeed out in the cold - shivering on their balcony - flashing back to happier times with Daniel (who's now at the book store). And as Amber cries over the memory of Daniel proposing, Daniel's made his way over to Jimmy's (where Mac shakes her head 'no').
Cane's brought Mac something - a kangaroo broach. They carry babies in their pouch, Cane sounds slightly smarter than a 5th grader. Whether it works or not, thank you ~hug~ Walking in, Billy isn't exactly pleased to see Cane and Mac in one another's arms (and marches over to say so). After everything this guy's done to his family - Mac wants to be his surrogate? It's a slap to Billy's face. Of all the woman, you chose HER. He didn't ask me, Mac clarifies - I offered. And when Cane points out that Jill and Kay have forgiven him (they're family), Billy barks - You are NOT my family - and MY girlfriend's NOT gonna have YOUR kid!
HERE you are, Daniel finds Amber freezing on the balcony patio. He knows she left her keys - he's been looking everywhere for her. Daniel first wraps his coat around Amber, then his arms.
Shocking - but Chloe actually agrees with Nina - a scar is not a badge of honour. In comes Philip - sorry I took off like that. Unable to hide his relief, Chance admits he thought his father was gone for good. After Paul Discreetly bows out, Chloe and Nina watch on as Philip gives Chance the book. Huck Finn? Yes - Chance has read it - but he'd like to read it again.
In the hallway, Jill asks Paul if he's found anything out - about Kay's daughter. Chance's ordeal has made her aware of her own mortality - and Kay's. We don't have forever. Paul warns it may take some time - Charlotte Ramsey has vanished. With records being erased, Paul thinks there's more to the story - she doesn't WANT to be found. When Kay interrupts, Jill claims they're talking about Chance. What's REALLY going on? Kay she wants to know.
Chloe and Nina continue to watch on - as Chance reads Philip's touching inscription. It's not signed because he wasn't sure how to - Philip? Dad? 'Dad's' just fine with Chance, he hands the pen over.
Jill assures nothing's going on. Is she always this suspicious? Paul quips. Kay's having none of it - and won't give up until she finds out what's up. You could always read me like a book - OK - she'll find out sooner of later. Promise you'll keep it a secret. We've been seeing each other. Jill then starts sucking on Paul's face - much to everyone's surprise - especially Paul's (as well as Nina and Philip's). Back in Chance's room, he wonders what it was Chloe was gonna bring him. Never mind, she couldn't find it - but realized something about herself - she runs away - like his Dad. Chance suggests they continue to get to know one another better.
Back at Jimmy's, Cane apologizes for coming between them. Billy demands Mac make a choice - be with him, or be THEIR surrogate. Arms folded, Mac growls - you do NOT want to ask me to make that choice.
Still on the rooftop, Daniel and Amber make up - she doesn't care about a big wedding - and just wants to be with Daniel. He puts the ring back on her finger. Marry me - right here - right now. Yes, tonight ~kiss~
Next: Going over a big book, or photo album with Paul, Patty softly admits that if Jack ever tried to leave her for someone else, she'd hurt him again .... Did Mac say something to you? Lily asks. It's Billy, Cane confided - he's trying to talk Mac out of it ... Phyllis bumps into Deacon at CL's. Your son's wedding, he says - I heard it was happening right now - on his rooftop. Without further word, Phyllis bolts out.
My Thoughts: You don't trust me, Amber whines to Daniel. Um - why should he? What with Amber so willing to make 'sacrifices' in other men's beds .... Since Billy drove all the way out to the mausoleum, why wouldn't he peek in on his daughter - sleeping or not? And how laughable of HIM to say CANE'S not to be 'trusted' ... Doesn't Mac owe it to Cane to mention that her only other pregnancy ended in misscarriage? Lily DOES only have 2 eggs. It'd be a shame to have them combust in Mac's faulty womb ... Cane wonders how Mac possibly found the time to 'do all this' - get a full physical (good question - as it usually takes a few days for the blood work to come back). Is he forgetting Mac has no purpose in her life? She has nothing BUT time ... Jill's so convinced that Philip will answer HER messages - but he doesn't. Odd - because with a son in the hospital, you'd think Philip might be concerned that he'd taken a turn for the worse ... Lucky for Daniel that he only has about 4 sets to hit on his quest to find Amber - but really? The book store? Why the hell would SHE be there? ... When relaying the tale of being the victim of a hit and run, was Paul talking about the time Phyllis mowed him and Chris down with her rental car? 173 stitches? Scars aren't a badge of honour Paul. Funny that he left out that he was impotent for months afterwards - until Lauren managed to 'get a rise' outta him ...If Mary's such a 'worrier' why wasn't she there for Paul when he was dumped at the alter - or there for her daughter (who's in a padded cell). I guess she's a long distance worrier ... Chloe bypassed the whole girlfriend thing - and went straight to marriage? But then she says most guys look at her as a 'good time'. Make up your mind already ... It's very nice of Paul to visit Nina's son - but when will he ever go visit his own? And so what if he was 'out of town' - he doesn't keep aprised of GC news on his computer or phone? ... Chance is allergic to kiwi? Who knew? He won't let a 'fuzzy little fruit' take him down? Is he talking about Rafe? Perhaps the tough detective's already forgotten he was felled by a 'butter knife'. Allergies are nuthin' to sneeze at (no pun intended) - just look at what a little peanut butter breath did to Summer ... You'd think Paul would be a bit more enthusiastic about Jill's kiss - it's not like he's been getting any action since Nikki left him for Victor.
