At CL's, Billy tells Chloe not to flatter herself - the only person that matters to him is Mac. Chloe then gets a text summoning her to the mausoleum (where something big's going down concerning Philip). Wait for me, Billy dashes out after her.
Meanwhile, on the patio, Lauren knows that Mike crossed the line attacking Ryder - but she DID call him a 'rat' - remember that? Then she gets sent a live rat. Coincidence? Lauren thinks NOT.
At their place, Amber and Daniel rave about Mrs C's gift - airline cards including food and hotels - how cool is THAT? Now they can pick a romantic destination at random. But as they're about to wheel their luggage out, Mike arrives to announce the honeymoon will have to wait. Now a murder suspect, Daniel can't leave the state.
Getting back from her chemo session (with Mac and Cane), Lily thinks it so sweet that Jill's brought over some healthy take out. As the girls head to the bedroom, Jill's thrilled to hear the news that there's going to be another baby in the family. Oh yes - Cane IS family. He's as much Jill's son as if he'd given her stretch marks and suckled at her ample bossom. She's then stunned to hear that Philip may be going back to Australia.
Still taking her anger out on Chance's pillows, Nina tells Kay that Philip's going to Australia - tonight! Can you believe it? He'll WISH he was dead when she gets her hands on him. Philip's with Chance right now - unless he chickened out through the back door.
Downstairs, Chance detects that Philip's kind 'out of it'. That must be because he's going back to Australia. How long? Indefinitely. But this time Philip has good reason (which is much too complicated to explain - and won't be good enough). Then why do it? Kay appears to ask (with an even more dour faced Nina behind her).
Mike explains that Daniel's now a suspect because Ryder's alibi checked out. Amber's livid - since when do people have to prove they're innocent? This is America. Deacon won't get off scott free, Mike assures - there's other things he can be charged with besides murder. I'll be in touch. As a pouting Amber turns to console him, Daniel skips off to 'get some air'.
When Kevin thinks Mike probably scared poor Ryder to death, Lauren objects - 'poor Ryder'? He can take care of himself. Kevin refuses to believe Ryder would do something so 'twisted'. He's NOT 'in denial' - he's giving him the benefit of the doubt (that's what family does).
WE are your 'unfinished business', Kay corrects - what could possibly so important that Philip needs to leave tonight? You OK? Chloe asks Chance (who is - but wants to hear Philip's excuse). Nina chimes in to remind Philip that he trusted her enough to come out of the closet - why doesn't he trust her enough to explain? Jill's the last to arrive - so, it's true - you're leaving.
Having enjoyed their take out, Cane will clean up (as Mac and Lily need to keep their energy up). How about he peel them some grapes? Or fan them with palm leaves? Lighten up - it's an adventure. And when Mac excuses herself to check on the bar, Lily encourages Cane to go check on Jill - she and Mac will be just fine. Lily's pleased to have alone time with Mac - to discuss something 'really important'.
What's all this? Daniel returns to ask. Good question - as the apartment's now filled with crap - an inflatable palm tree, beach chair etc. Amber has brought the honeymoon to THEM. Listen - you can almost here the waves - and look over there - it's a cabin in the mountains - and in that corner, a Paris cafe. Yes, she's 'nuts' - that's why he married her. Daniel apologizes for running out - for better or for worse right? And things couldn't BE much worse. Oh yes they could - Daniel could be single. He agrees ~kiss~ We have each other.
Mike's not at CL's to harass Ryder - he's there to cut him loose (as he's now representing Daniel). But who's gonna represent Ryder for making a false confession? Mike's not the only attorney in town - let your fingers do the walking. With Lauren on his heels, Kevin comes along - what's going on now? Mike was just informing his 'bro' that he's no longer his client. You're just gonna desert him? Kevin scowls - Ryder's not the one causing problems - the Baldwin's are.
Jill's disappointed - weren't they all getting along? The talks - the dinners - even she and Kay are getting along. Has Jill done something? No? Them WHY is Philip doing this? Is he really this selfish? Cane appears to announce Philip's NOT selfish - Philip's doing this to 'save his life'. Apologizing to Philip for being unable to keep his promise, Cane tells all about the dangerous cattle rustlers. You wanna be a hero? Nina blinks in disbelief. When Chance suddenly takes Delia off to bed, Chloe follows him - leaving Billy to rant at 'this jerk' (Cane) - who's done nothing but lie and manipulate since he came to town. He should go home and take care of his OWN dirty work. Enough! Kay barks - no more infighting - understood? As Cane excuses himself, Billy takes Jill's advice (and goes somewhere to 'cool off'). Philip's then left to explain he owes it to Cane to take care of this problem. That 'creep's' more important than finally being a father? Nina clearly disapproves. But Kay understands that Philip's trying to protect his loved ones - and Jill's SOOO proud of him ~hug~ Philip has one thing to say - he's sorry - that he didn't tell them the truth all those years ago.
Upstairs, Chloe finds Chance talking away to Delia. Feeling that Cane uses people, she'd hate to see Philip risk his life for 'that guy'. Chance thinks it 'noble' - but likes having Philip around. Chance isn't so sure he'll be back (but is encouraged to give it a chance - and let go of the hurt he's kept bottled up all this time).
Lily doesn't know how to thank Mac for sacrificing the next 9 months of her life - she knows how much this is costing her. No, Lily doesn't want to discuss the contract - she can't talk to Cane about this ... but what happens to her baby if she doesn't survive?
On the patio, Kevin confronts Mike on trying to convince everyone that Ryder sent Lauren the rat - looks like Mikey's abandoning him all over again. Some things never change. And as Mike chases after Kevin, Lauren's left to demand to know what Ryder's problem is with her.
Mac needs to know that if she doesn't make it, her baby will be OK. Sure Cane was great with Delia - but a baby needs a woman's touch. Olivia? She travels so much. Jill and Kay? It wouldn't be fair - but Mac - she's generous - and wants to make a difference in the world. Lily's sorry for making Mac uncomfortable. It's a lot to consider, Mac squirms - she only signed up for a 9 month commitment - not a lifetime one. Can we talk about this later? Second thoughts? Lily worries. It's been a long day, Mac replies as she hurries out - we'll talk tomorrow.
With Nina, Jill and Kay, Philip now realizes he should have been honest years ago - then he wouldn't have lost all those years with Chance (who now sadly listens in).
Outside, Cane's joined by Billy - who knows he'd be gone if Mac hadn't convinced him to stay. Not wanting to 'do this' Cane claims he stayed because of Lily. Yeah, but now he's convinced BILLY'S girlfriend that she's the only way they can have a baby - and his REAL brother's going to Australia to deal with Cane's mess. Hit me! Billy entices - hit me!
When Lauren follows him inside, Ryder claims he couldn't have sent Lauren that rat - their beady little eyes freak him out. Lauren doesn't find this funny - and neither does Mike. Ryder actually loves the Baldwin's - but no matter what he does, they always seem to ... Hey! Mike races over - is he bothering you? Lauren can handle Ryder - she's gone up against adversaries that make HIM look like a kitten. You have no idea who you're up against, Mike agrees. Kevin comes over to point his finger - stop threatening him - out - now!
Dressed in their winter woollies, Daniel and Amber are online - how about a nice cabin in the woods (of Wisconsin)? Though Amber worries he'll be indicted, Daniel won't waste his time on 'what if's' - let's get this honeymoon started. Where? Right over there - the city of lights. In 'Paris', the Romalotti's sip wine and kiss.
Cane now points his finger in Billy's face - don't you dare ever ... ever - portray me as a 'machiavellian madman' who brainwashes people - understand me? He didn't ASK Philip to let him take his place - or ASK Mac to be surrogate - or even ASK Lily to reconcile with him. And Billy being all alone has nothing to do with HIM - got it? Have a good night. Wordlessly, the eavesdropping Chloe joins the dejected Billy.
Back inside, Cane apologizes for what happened with Billy (and has to get back to Lily). Yes, Philip's sure he wants to do this ~hug~ Go take care of your wife. Yes, Cane's like a brother to Philip. And can they ever forgive him for what he put them through. Jill and Kay apologize too - for using his as a weapon to hurt each other. As Philip assures he'll come back, Chance rejoins them. He admits thinking the worst of Philip - but after hearing Cane's story, now feels he's doing the right thing (and to the amazement of all, calls him 'Dad'). I love you my son, an emotional Philip says with a hug.
In their 'cabin', the Romalotti's giggle and snuggled under the blanket - even though Daniel's back to being a murder suspect. They better make every second count - how about driving off to someplace goofy? Just for a few days. Unpredictable and romantic, remember? Race you to the car, Amber jumps up.
What part of 'you're not welcome here' do the Baldwin's not understand? Lauren's aghast that Kevin's turning his back on his brother, his best friend - and her - for 'some guy'? Somebody's gotta cut this kid a break - now go! Sorry it's come to this, Mike leads his wife out. Sweeping the patio, Ryder watches them leave - before making a call. 'Yeah, Lauren got your present - they think I sent it. You really jumped the gun'
As Philip hugs his clingy family, Kay sums it up - he gave Cane a family, Jill a son, her a grandson. You did it out of love - you're a good man. Never too late to learn, Philip concludes - and at the front door, says final good bye's to Nina and Chance. I love you so much. Nina's waited 25 years to hear those words ~hug~ And finally, wished a 'safe trip', Philip takes a photo of them for his bar (the one photo he'll be smiling in). Inside, Nina jokes with Kay - the way she takes in strays, she'll never be an empty nester. You don't have to be related to be family. Jill's still puzzled on why Billy went after Cane.
Cane comes home to Lily - now his focus is on 'operation baby' - where's Mac? Why does Lily look so sad? I'm fine, Lily lies - just tired ~hug~
Outside, Chloe indeed see the pathetic showdown with Cane - and sides with Billy. It's his fault Philip's leaving. Wanna come check on Delia? Later - Billy wants to sit alone for a while (and mope about Mac). All bummed out, he heads inside - and sees Mac watching him. Meeting his stare, she looks just as depressed.
Next: I thought we were gonna meet at your place, Adam says into his phone. Sharon (at CL's) thought it was time he came out of hiding ... I am going to invest in Chancellor, Ashley excites Jack - but not with YOU ... She followed Jack over here, Phyllis informs. She saw you talking? Nick replies. We were having sex, Phyllis corrects.
My Thoughts: The only thing more cringe worthy than Daniel stumbling and stuttering when trying to pronounce a native American Indian word - is him and Amber completely butchering the French language ... Ahhhh - finally an explanation on where Olivia is - she travels so much - for work. Wonder why she bothered to get her 'privileges' back at GCM. Is she now a doctor on a cruise ship or something? ... Why is Chance holding his far right side? Did they operate on his spleen through his ribs? Oh yeah Chloe - CANE'S the one who uses people (says the woman who ... well, never mind *sigh* we don't have that kinda time) ... Nice that Jill brought food over to the Ashby's - but what exactly is 'healthy' take out - and if it's healthy food she wants, why didn't she ask Ester (who's likely off penning a '101 ways to cook tofu' cookbook - soon to be found at Trimbles Bookstore) ... Exactly where in that postage stamp of an apartment, did Amber get all that crap - a billboard of the Eiffel Tower? An inflatable palm tree? (I'd wonder how she found time to blow that thing up - but if Amber's good at anything, it'd be blowing). The most unlikely item at the 'honeymoon'? an unflattering (and flattening) pink ski vest ... Daniel's only been told to left the state by his attorney? No official and stamped paperwork from the DA's office? Couldn't Mike just have said he couldn't find the couple - as they were off on their honeymoon? If the Romalotti's aren't even sure which 'random' destination they're choosing, how would they know what to pack? Are the suitcases full of flip flops and bikinis? Or ski jackets and scarves? ... Why must everything be 'complicate'? Doesn't that just mean the person being grilled doesn't want to explain - or that the person being explained TO, is too stupid to understand? And the cattle rustlers story is NOT complicated - it's downright ridiculous. Not sure why the billionairess and her 'family' aren't more concerned about the supposed danger they might be in. And it's odd that no one offered to join Philip - check out his bar - the place he's called home for 2 decades - meet his 'friends' - maybe put these cattle rustlers in their place. Hard to believe THIS was the big 'gay storyline' the show was breaking ground with (well, ground in GC Wisconsin - the rest of the states - actually the world, is already aware that gay people exist). But given Philip's fondness for Cane, hasn't anyone questioned their relationship? ... Philip's going back to Australia! Can you believe it?! Nina squeals - clearly forgetting she's talkin' about a man who just appeared after being dead for 20 years ... Give the benefit of the doubt? THAT'S what you do with family (according to Kevin) - whom you'd think would say that getting one another out of (or visiting IN) jail is what family 'does' .... Cancer patients undergoing treatment all over the world might be interested to hear that (according to Lily) chemo doesn't bother ya till the next day. We'll see how Mac's liking her 'adventure' when she's been in hard labour for 12 hours - riding a flying carpet around Arabia is an adventure. You're no Indiana Jones, Mac ... Nice that Mac excuses herself to call and check on the bar - I'm guessing she's really calling to announce the place is closing early tonight - again. Let's hope the sign on the door - announcing the establishment's hours of operation, is written with a wet erase marker. Instead of an hour, maybe Mac should just neatly print 'closed whenever I get tired' ... Mike tells Ryder he's not the only lawyer in town? What? There's other attorney's? If he wants to find that dinosaur Mitchell Sherman, Ryder better head over to Jabot. Rafe may be a better bet - I'm sure he'd do Ryder pro bono (absolutely noooo pun intended *snicker*) Not sure why Ryder's surprised that Mike's dropping him as a client - A. He just beat ya like a rug, and B) It's not like you're payin' him. If Ryder was smart ... Hmmm - Lauren could be on to something. She called Ryder a rat - then gets sent a rat. Cane called Billy a 'machiavellian madman' - does that mean he'll be sent a 'machiavellian madman'? How big a box would one need for a 'machiavellian madman'?
