Losing another Gin hand to Murphy, Kay tosses the cards down. Her mind's on taking CI public. Paving the way for handing over the reigns to Jill, Kay wants to company to be in a solid position - but it's harder than she thought it'd be.
In New York on business, Jill stops at a bar to flirt with a bartender. Put yourself in my hands, he encourages (when Jill's unsure of what she'd like) - he has something that'll make her very happy.
Meeting Paul at the club, Phyllis hopes for good news - and gets some. Paul hands over a collection of time stamped photos (from surveillance cameras). They show a sedan by a dumpster - the driver wearing a ski mask (who later gets out of the car in a cap and carrying a duffel bag). This is the break we need!
Visiting the jail, Amber finds Deacon visiting with a burly inmate. We're 'all clear' Deacon whispers - as the con then waddles out. Deacon lets her insults slide - it must be hard having a husband in jail. Not sharing her optimism that Daniel will be out soon, Deacon invites Amber to call when she gets lonely - he'll be waiting. When Daniel's let in, Amber points out the guy Deacon was talking to. Don't worry about Deacon, Daniel reassures - he can't touch you anymore (now that we're married).
At home, JT's busy on the computer - and isn't interested in talking to Vikki (despite her pleading). He just can't deal with the situation right now - her affair - and resentment of his new career. Vikki's drama will just have to wait til after the weekend.
At RS, Billy gets a visit from Heather - who's there about the confidential grand jury testimony published on his website. If he names his source, she won't press charges. Billy reminds of the first amendment - don't even THINK of charging me with a crime.
Over another game of Gin, the Murphy's discuss Tucker McCall - he sneezes at a company and the stock goes up. But letting him in may not be a good idea (as it'll leave Jill with a 'shark').
The kindly (and age appropriate) bartender serves Jill a Spanish Coffee that'll curl her toes - then sits. He has a familiar face - and pretty well 'the run of the place' (so IS allowed to sit with the customers). 'Call me Mick' is invited to stay - and 'flirt shamelessly'. He's good at reading people - and knows she's a successful business woman - but she knows about struggle - so appreciates what she has now. Wow - you're good, Jill takes a shot - and is correct when seeing a deep sadness in 'Mick' - a great loss he's never gotten over.
Vikki continues to nag JT about not making time for her - and how would he feel about her going to Dubai? Time apart's not the answer - JT just needs a few more days to work. Billy arrives with flowers - I come in peace. He apologizes for his 'rookie error'. Billy's NOT sorry for publishing the article - but wants to give Vikki a chance to tell her side of the story. You have SOME nerve, Vikki marches out - leaving Billy to shrug sheepishly at a glaring JT - 'I tried'.
With Phyllis certain the photos are of the third man in the alley, Paul pulls out more - the ski mask and phone went into the gym bag (which was tossed into the dumpster). There's no shots of his face - but Paul's having the logo on the gym bag checked out. No, the cops don't have this - but should investigate now. SHOULD? Phyllis balks - who drives around in a ski mask in June? Who? Well, there could have been other robberies that night. Phyllis will never forget what Paul's done for her - and will take this to the authorities herself. This changes everything, she's confident.
Kay gets a call from Jill (who has eyes on Mick as she reports she met with the lawyers). Kay shares her hesitation - maybe Tucker McCall's not a wise choice. Interested in getting Jill's 'take' on him (when they meet), Kay bids 'darling' a safe flight home. Mick brings over another drink - business? Can he get a tip? Jill explains what an IPO is - this one's by invitation only. Oh no, Mick's not bored to tears at all - he's fascinated.
JT wags his finger - lay off Vikki. Picking petals off a flower he's plucked from the bouquet, Billy claims it's nothing personal - readers just like to know that the high and mighty Newman's have flaws. Hands now on his hips, JT knows Billy doesn't give a damn who he hurts. He's no journalist - he's an opportunist. Billy's not the pretender here - the suit looks good, but JT's not fooling anyone - at the end of the day, he's just a security guard. JT scoffs - you're not worth this (then calls security to come throw out a trespasser).
Vikki marches into CL's - to ask Heather and Owen what they plan to do about Billy Abbott (who published grand jury testimony). When Heather talks about freedom of the press, Owen interrupts - we need to make a swift example of anyone who leaks GJ testimony. Thank you, Vikki sniffs - smirks at Heather, then turns on her heel and clip clops out.
On the patio, Amber's overjoyed with the photos Phyllis shows her (and will sprint to the jail with them). Tell Daniel not to give up, Phyllis concludes. Deacon arrives. She looks happy, he comments as Amber leaves (and is then shown the photos). It has EVERYTHING to do with you, Phyllis disagrees - how dare Deacon plead the 5th? He's gonna be real sorry. Phyllis then heads inside to show Heather the photos her father found. 'Useless', Heather dismisses them - as she sips her coffee.
Back in the New York bar, Mick can see the deal excites Jill (her eyes are sparkling). It's inspirational when you do what you love. And is Mick loving what he's doing? He's not in the business of selling booze - he's selling a cure for loneliness. Now let's hear more about her fascinating work. Paul calls with good news - thanks to some old microfilm, he's learned that Kay's baby was placed somewhere in Ohio. Somewhere? Yes - he's heading there now - it could be a dead end (or not). Of course Paul will be discreet - and call when he gets to Ohio. Now where were we? Jill asks when she hangs up. You were about to fascinate me, Mick grins.
At the club to pick up some food for him and the missus, Murphy's greeted warmly by Paul - who needs to speak to him (but doesn't want Kay to know about it).
Amber can barely contain her delight over the photos - with Phyllis taking them to the police Daniel should be able to make bail now. Daniel's also thrilled - leave it to Mom to make things happen.
Deacon listens from the patio, as a frantic Phyllis insists the person in the photos is the murderer. But there's nothing tying that person to the crime - and whatever was tossed in the garbage is now in a landfill. Heather maintains she has a solid case against Daniel - she's no 'bitch' or anything - but the DA's office will laugh in her face if she asks them to investigate this so-called lead. Fight them! Phyllis pleads. But with Heather convinced of Daniel's guilt, Phyllis vows to prove her wrong. On the patio, Deacon's heard the entire exchange - and makes a call - remember that little message we discussed? - it's time to deliver it.
Now seated at the club, Paul confides that Jill hired him to find Kay's daughter. Ah ha - Murphy knew something was up. Paul asks for discretion - and for Murphy to try jog Kay's memory - ask a few questions. But Murphy has to ask - what if Paul never finds her - or what if she's had a tragic life (that could have been prevented if Kay hadn't given her up). That would tear Kay apart. Murphy will see what he can do - then greets JT on his way out. Paul shakes JT's hand - never thought I'd see you in a suit. That makes two of us, JT chuckles. Paul may be proud of him, but JT wishes Vikki felt that way - this career move hasn't been too good for their marriage.
Who does he think he is, Billy scowls over at JT (with Paul). Murphy sits Billy down at the bar - coffee? He won't judge Billy on the Vikki article - but is he really proud of himself? Murphy was brought up old school - you don't hurt a lady. Sipping straight alcohol, Billy coughs as Murphy leaves him to think.
Kay gets a visit from Vikki (who explains she and Nick plan to buy CI stock with their trust funds). Unable to reach her Mom, Vikki really COULD use the ear Kay's offering (to whine about JT's priorities changing since he got this new job). And what would make Vikki's life better? A job? NE's off limits you say? Then come work at Chancellor.
Back at the club, JT confides to Paul that he and Vikki have discussed taking a break from each other - she may go to Dubia. At the same time, Vikki agrees that taking a breather might be a good idea. But as JT's whining to Paul, Vikki's telling Kay that where she works won't change things between her and JT. Back and forth it goes - both duos now discuss the online article - and then the issue of trust. Vikki's not sure JT will ever trust her again. And across town, JT's admitting as much to Paul.
Back at CL's, Amber's bubble is burst - when Phyllis relays that the incompetent ADA - 'who's sitting on the patio' - says they're useless. Oh no - that's our best lead, Amber frets - I'm gonna kill her. Phyllis stops her - assaulting an officer of the court won't help Daniel.
Paul's summoned to the patio by Heather (who grumbles about Daddy not warning her about the photos Phyllis has). The photos don't prove Daniel's innocence - talk some sense into that woman, will ya? There's NO connection, Heather stands firm.
Inside, Phyllis flips through the photos - it's up to US to find the connection, she decides. Needing to find what's inside the tossed out gym bag, both she and Amber are willing to go 'dumpster diving' to save Daniel. They'll tear the whole landfill apart if they have to.
Daniel notes the large, bald inmate glaring at him as he passes by. Unnoticed by the guards, the large con then gets up to follow Daniel.
Leaving the bar, Jill bids 'Mick' a fond farewell - and is told her money's no good there - not even for a tip. Trust me, you'll like it, Jill grins slyly. And as she saunters out, Mick unfolds the $20 bill - 'fascinate me. Room 1622'. He's now out the door too.
Back to playing cards, Murphy mentions running into Billy at the club - he gave him a good kick in the pants. All Kay can do is be there for him when needed. Them, with some mention of the great day they met on the riverbank, Kay suddenly cackles - Gin!
Of course Vikki knew she could find JT at the club - she had a GPS device installed in his brain when he had his flu shot. The joke may be lame but it works - maybe JT HAS been working a bit too hard. We'll deal with it, Vikki smiles. Oh look - Billy's at the bar - and JT wants to deal with him the way he should have earlier. No need, Vikki already has - see that guy at the end of the bar? Billy Abbott? You've beed served. It's about the leaked GJ testimony, the process server adds. Thank you, Billy gives a nod and a smile to the watching Hellstrum's.
Next: I just took a test to see if I'm pregnant, a nervous looking Mac tells Billy. And? I'll find out this afternoon ... The Hellstrum's are in the gallery as the Judge glares at Billy (on the stand). You WILL reveal your source or I'll hold you in contempt ... Jill walks into the boardroom, arm extended - I've been SO looking forward to meeting you Mr McC .... her jaw drops at the sight of 'Mick'...
My Thoughts: How great is the club's take out - or how bad is the pizza in GC (I can't see any other reason why the Murphy's would interrupt their card game - so he can zip on over and pick up some food) I guess canned pork n beans are no longer Kay's favourite ... Murphy 'never did think' Paul and Jill could be together? Why the hell not? Has Murphy not seen any photos around of some of Jill's previous conquests - he probably wouldn't peg Larry Warton as a likely suitor either ... Who cares about the stupid logo on the stupid gym bag this stupid 'third guy in the alley' threw out? What make of 'sedan' was he driving - and did anyone see him? Are there any photos that show the LICENSE PLATE? Oh great - Phyllis and Amber soon to be scouring the landfill (guess one will flirt with the unsuspecting garbage attendant - while the other slips in to gain access) - reminiscent of Nikki and Sharon going through the sewers (with Cameron's dead body) ... Gotta love Jill - not sure why she gets an 'attagirl' for bedding a complete stranger (while Billy's a dog for doing the same in an alley) - but she does. I'm also not sure why she'd fail to recognize this very famous business mogul. Even if their paths haven't crossed before, you'd think there'd be press coverage (including photos) of the infamous Tucker McCall .... Now that Daniel's married Amber, Deacon can't 'touch her anymore'? Huh? Did her ring come with some protective invisible force field? Cause if so, Daniel shoulda hid HIS ring up his ass before being incarcerated ...No - the police don't have the surveillance photos - cause it took 'a hell of a lot of legwork' - What? So Paul's two legs are more productive than the legs of the whole department's homicide squad? Guess he's been working out ... How is surveillance photos of a man - fitting the description Daniel gave - being in the alley at the time of the murder - a 'so called' lead? Wouldn't Heather at least be interested in the person as a witness? ... Love how Phyllis tells Amber that 'assaulting an officer of the court isn't gonna save Daniel (cause just yesterday she said she wanted to 'strangle' Heather - and knock some sense into her thick skull - Plus, the last time Heather was at the tack house, she got her face clapped - by Phyllis) ... For some odd reason, Murphy tells Kay he gave Billy a 'good kick in the pants'. Oh? Is that the name of the drink Murphy bought him? Note how Billy comes in from his workout - and asks the bartender 'can I get a water'? No 'please' - no payment (cause it's free I s'pose) - no tip. Why can't Billy bring a bottle of water in his bag - or use the water cooler in the gym - like everyone else? ... Are you blind? Phyllis asks Heather - duh - no - that would be her ex boyfriend (and your brother in law) .. Yeah - it's weird how that GJ testimony got leaked - is it possible that a loudmouth juror ALSO decided to have a loud private conversation in a very public place (like the ADA is doing right now)... How does THIS happen? Deacon pulls out his phone - to announce it's time to pass along his little message. His call seems to be answered on the first ring. Does the big, bald con have a cell phone in the pocket of his orange jumpsuit? Even if he parked his ample ass on the payphone I can't see him being able to stand up in time to answer it that fast ... Those GC guards are really incompetent - wonder if the two buffoons who failed to notice a 300 lb inmate struggle to his feet and follow Daniel are the same pair who let Riggs escape 'lightening fast' - in shackles!? Neither guard even bothered to turn around in case the inmate was gonna drive a shank into their backs (or hit them over the head with his cell phone) .... Nice that the Newman kids are gonna use their trust fund money to buy CI stock - without having to get anyone's permission to spend it however they want. Poor Billy - no wonder he has it in for the Newman's. He wasn't able to squeeze a dime outta Jack to buy RS. He's just not trusted to withdraw from his trust fund ... Vikki whines to Kay that she hasn't been able to reach her Mother - get this - because of the 'time difference'? Yeah - cause adding 7 or 8 hours onto the appropriate US time zone is very, very challenging (for someone put in a coma by a styrofoam brick). And it would be really, really bad to awaken Nikki in the middle of the night - first she'd have to roll over - remove her eye mask - then extend her arm - grope for the phone - mumble 'Hello' - then do the whole thing in reverse once Vikki's done whining. I'm getting tired just thinking about it.
