Oh my gosh, Lily's stunned to see her bio-Dad. Malcolm shakes Cane's hand - then explains running into Olivia at Heathrow. It's been a hell of a long time. Lily can't believe it - and scowling, neither can Neil.
All gather at the mausoleum's front door to scold Billy (who's now sober and sorry). Yes - he promises to behave - scout's honour. From the guy who was never a scout, Chloe grumbles.
At CL's, Nina suggests a movie before she and Paul go out for dinner. Hearing that Paul plans to visit Patty, Nina offers to go along. Why? She's a huge part of Paul's life - and isn't it about time someone was there for Paul - the way he is for everyone else?
At the tackhouse, Vikki and Phyllis have put the kids down - and the sitter should be there soon. JT calls - and confirms they're still going out - see you at CL's. There already, Mac's pleased that JT and Vikki are going out for New Year's Eve. Her plans? A sandwich at Jimmy's (where she'll worry about Lily).
Back at the tackhouse, Vikki asks Phyllis about her plans for the night - is Nick off planning a romantic evening? No - he's with Sharon, Phyllis informs. Is this some kinda joke!? Nick growls at Adam - you were going skiing. 'We obviously did more than that' Adam's immediately pounced on. Nick releases Adam to lecture Sharon - you can't be in love with HIM. You're not thinking clearly. Adam takes exception to the insults - and who the hell does he think he is? Sharon's husband - that's who - and there's not a damn thing Nick can do about it. See? He's using you to get to me, Nick implores. Sharon scoffs at the 'master plan' - we all know you and I are over - and we all know how much you love your wife - don't we Nick?
Thank God Sharon only suffered a mild concussion. Yeah - thank God, Phyllis echoes Vikki unconvincingly. Yes - she understands completely - and is sure Nick will be home as soon as he can.
In Lily's hospital room, all Malcolm's medical questions have been answered. Lily lists off all those who've supported her. Yes - he received the letter Lily sent - but couldn't respond as he was on a photo shoot in India. Congratulations, Malcolm again shakes Cane's hand (as Neil continues to scowl).
With Delia perched on his knee, Billy's given a gift. Oh look - a mini GC snow globe Delia picked out. But when it's made clear that Chance was there too, Billy's smile fades.
Over dinner at home, both Jack and Dr P are dressed to impress. A string quartet? P's feeling spoiled. Jack goes on and on about happiness showing up when you least expect it - cheers. There's something in my glass, P holds up a diamond ring. Is this? Are you? .... It is .. and I am. Emily Peterson, will you marry me? P interrupts his speech about things moving too fast - she's never been impulsive. Now in tears, P declares she's never had this with anyone - Yes! Jack puts the ring on her finger. Yes ~kiss~
No one should spend New Year's Eve alone, Paul reassures Patty (who's soon put at ease by Nina). The more the merrier, Patty invites her to stay.
Adam knows Sharon will always have feelings for Nick - and that they share a history. But HE is Sharon's new life. Adam swears on his mother's soul that this marriage is no sham - I love Sharon. Nick guarantees the bottom will drop out of this. As a friend - the father of her child, Nick begs her to have the marriage annulled. Go home to your wife, Sharon sounds tired. At home, Phyllis is on the phone - no need to rush - but the minute you get here, I have to leave.
On the CL's patio, the Mac's humble as the Hellstrum marvel at her sacrifice (for Lily). The Ashby's are determined to have this child - they'll never take it for granted (which causes the Hellstrum's to look ashamed).
Neil assures Malcolm that Lily's in good hands - no need for him to call in more doctors. Lily knows the odds aren't in her favour - but vows to fight. Feisty - just like Dru. But when Lily wonders what Malcolm's been up to, Cane and Neil decide it's time to rest.
Arriving at Jack's, Phyllis barges in - and seeing P, declares this 'awkward'. Is that? she spots the ring. You're ENGAGED? Wow - congratulations, I guess. Gotta go, Phyllis runs out - knock yourselves out.
Back at the mausoleum, Kay declares this the best New Years soiree ever - pigs in a blanket and 7 layer dip. And when Delia fusses in Billy's arms, Chance lets him know - she likes to be rocked. Like this, he demonstrates (as Billy glares). Billy's again the outsider when Chloe feeds chips to Chance. Getting a call from Josh, Billy's off to a big bash. Happy New Year - love you, he kisses Delia. But on the front step, Billy tells Josh he won't be coming. He's just not in the mood.
Mac leaves with a hug only for JT - Happy New Year - have a good night. The Hellstrum's then talk about the Ashby's going through hell - reminds JT of the year Vikki was in a coma - then, like a miracle, she woke up. This time last year, they werewe happy. With a sigh, Vikki worries about their future - I just don't know.
In GCM's hallway, Neil and Malcolm go at it - blaming one another for not calling. And where was Malcolm when Dru died!? Malcolm's sure Neil didn't want him around. Maybe disappearing wasn't the answer - but he felt he was doing the right thing. Plus - he's there NOW.
No big bash to go to? In their party hats, Chloe tells the Murphy's that Chance wouldn't take them to see the ball drop in New York. With Kay and Murphy off to the kitchen, Chloe admits she doesn't mind staying home - reflecting on the good in her life. Delia - her family - yeah .... Anything else? Chance nudges. Oh wait - one more thing - this adorable , sweet guy ~kiss~
Standing outside CL's, Billy calls to say Happy New Year to Jack - and is stunned (but happy) to hear he's engaged. Billy also hopes the new year is better for all of them. Hanging up, Jack relays that Billy seems genuinely happy for them.
Patty asks Nina about her family (that includes no siblings) - then raves about her sweet brothers. Their love brings Patty hope for the new year - to get better - take care of Kitty Kitty - to show everyone that she's not what they think she is.
Adam pours some bubbly - apple cider. Still in her hospital bed, Sharon giggles in her party hat (and clutches a noisemaker). Clinking paper cups together, it's not the evening Adam had planned - but still the best New Year's of his life.
At home, Nick ponders a framed photo of him and Phyllis (who then arrives). He let the sitter go - the kids are asleep. Sharon didn't want me around - and neither did her new husband, he pouts - Sharon and Adam got married. Nick didn't punch Adam - but wanted to. Phyllis calls Nick on his feelings for Sharon - why can't you let her go? You're 'trying'? Phyllis doesn't know whether to strangle Nick or throw something - she wants her family - her marriage - and all she hears is that Nick's trying not to be in love with Sharon. I hate her - and Adam. I HATE them - and right now - I hate you.
Nick hates it too - but it's New Year's Eve - and he's home - where he wants to be. What now? Phyllis gives him a kiss. Meanwhile, Adam and Sharon share the hospital bed - so it ain't Times Square. Adam knows Sharon still loves Nick in her own way - he's not threatened by it. He loves her enough for the both of them. You love me too. I do, Sharon agrees ~kiss~
Vikki feels they need a break - so is leaving for Dubai in a few days (without Reed). JT thanks her - then gets a call. I'll get right on that, he tells Mr McCall. It's an emergency, he tells Vikki (then leaves - no good bye - no kiss).
Cane's in Lily's bed - telling Neil and Malcolm the doctor's good news. Lily encourages Cane to go to work - she's in good hands. Neil scowls as Malcolm agrees - we're not going anywhere.
Patty hugs Nina enthusiastically - then tells Paul she really likes her. And after Paul leaves too, Patty sits alone - maybe next year you'll have someone to love too. Meanwhile, as P admires the ring on her finger, Jack sweeps her off her feet to carry her upstairs.
Drinking at Jimmy's, Billy has the latest RS scoop on his phone - Jack Abbott to marry darling doctor. As he orders another drink, Mac arrives (and doesn't look impressed when Billy loudly announces 'drinks are on me').
Chloe sits on Chance's knee - and what does he see for 2010? She'll fall madly in love with him. Murphy and Kay interrupt - time to watch the ball drop on the tube. Kay looks glum - thinking of the events of the past year. And soon she may meet the daughter she's never known. Whatever life hands her, Kay's grateful - it's all an amazing journey.
Next: You and I are going to look at the future, John's voice can be heard (as Billy holds up his little GC snow globe) ... A beaming Vikki rubs Kevin's shoulder as he makes an announcement to the press- You guys got control back of RS, Kevin announces to a happy Nick ... You are my son, Jill tells Cane (I'm your son, Billy leans over to say) ... I love you, Mac smiles up at Kevin .... Cordelia is walking down the aisle, Kay announces with delight - but Billy's non too happy when she has her 'father/daughter' dance - with Chance... Anguished, Billy throws himself at the window, screaming.
