Awakening on Kevin's sofa, Jana turns up the TV news - to hear that Cane's been shot dead. Oh no - poor Mrs K, pool Lily, poor Chloe.
Kevin chases Chloe out the mausoleum's front door. Just leave me alone! 'Pissed off' is what Chloe is - never mind that Kevin didn't tell her about Lucy - all men cheat, lie, leave her for another woman, or die! Chance broke her heart twice - by falling for Heather; then dying.
In Ronan's hospital room, all are thrilled to hear that Chance is a donor match. Fired, Ronan doesn't get a vote (on Chance's arrival jeopardizing the case) - he's here. Chance is home?! Heather chirps at Chris.
A stunned Jill hugs Chance (who then hugs Nina) - and learns that Nina knew he was alive.
Still in her robe, Lily carries Matty around. Showing her the frozen laptop image of Daddy, she's about to hit play when Devon interrupts - then Neil. Lily wants to know WHY her baby's father is dead.
Kay finds Collin on the stairs, moping over a framed photo of the beautiful Ashby family. Yes, Kay thought of Cane as family (as he had no one in Australia). In the living room, Daniel's on the phone (confirming that he's the father). Hanging up, he approaches Lucy (in her stroller). As he slowly reaches out, Vikki invites him to hold her. You OK? Billy asks.
He's back, Heather whispers - as she flashes back to Chance promising he'll come back (to her) once it's safe (which she relays to Paul when he startles her). But, so much has changed since then. Take things slowly, Paul cautions.
When Nina explains why Chance must be kept a secret, Jill is floored to think he came back for HER. But we must tell Philip - he can keep a secret. And he HAS (that's why he left - he couldn't bear seeing Jill suffer). Again hugging Chance, Jill promises to keep her mouth shut.
If Daniel's not feeling well, maybe he should back away from the baby - no offense. Daniel's fine - it's just been a long day. Realizing it's 'family time', Daniel blurts out condolences and hurries out (barging through Kevin and Chloe's argument; I gotta get outta here). Kevin's sorry Cane's dead - but it's not like he was the love of Chloe's life. Chloe expresses dissatisfaction with their relationship (which SHOULD be in the 'honeymoon' phase). Refusing to 'move', Kevin gives Chloe a kiss (which, despite her anger, she responds to).
Getting a text from Daniel (who's outside - and wondering if she's still up), Lily sends Neil off wit Devon (to buy diapers and formula). Now inside, Daniel seems to completely understands an experience so surreal it can't possibly be happening.
The kiss doesn't change anything for 'Debbie Downer' - it just won't work. She's not giving up - she's tired. As Chloe goes inside, Kevin vows to fix this. Ignoring Billy, Chloe runs upstairs - leaving Collin to opine that their baby will help Jill get through her grief. Do you have children? Vikki wonders (then is distracted by Lucy's sniffle). Worried that Lucy might be getting sick, the Abbott's leave.
How's Chloe? Coping, like everyone else, Nina tells Chance (who then explains he'll be staying at the hospital - and why). OMG. You came back to have major security for your brother, Jill marvels. A beep announces that Chance's driver's here. Realizing Nina set the meeting up, Jill thanks her (and is reassured that she'll see Chance again real soon ~hug~) After Chloe passes by the room, Nina peeks her head out. The coast clear, she and Chance tip toe down the hallway.
Now home, Billy's on the phone with a doctor - hear that? He holds his phone as Lucy coughs. Is it croup?
Hanging up, Billy tells Vikki that they should run a shower (as the steam might help). Wasting no time, the worried parents head up with Lucy.
Lily's now got Matty in her arms as she tells Daniel about Cane's video message (and that she kicked him out; after all they've been through). Daniel claims Cane a good man; a great father. He knows Lily won't give up. Cane will be with you every day - via stories, the video, memories. He's in you.
Jill rejoins Collin and the Murphy's downstairs (to claim that Lucy is the reason she's got colour back in her face). There's hope. Looking like she has NO hope, Chloe comes down in her jammies to pour a stiff drink. Kinda late kiddo, Murphy gently scolds. True - Chloe shoulda started drinkin' hours ago.
Jana catapults herself into Kevin's arms as he comes through the front door (to rant about how dangerous it is out there). Yeah - tragic - but we need to talk, Kevin wiggles out of her grasp (to blurt out that they're divorced - and have been for quite some time).
Starting to whimper, Jana denies she'd ever push Kevin away. He tried - then gave up and moved on. You wouldn't do that, Jana also denies she'd ever stop loving Kevin. And the past few weeks have been so right - like they used to be. Somebody else? Impossible. Whoever she is, it's not real. Oh, but it is, Kevin sighs. No, it's not like what THEY had - but it's good - and it's gonna be great. Bottom line; Kevin's gonna be with Chloe. He's left to slump onto the sofa when Jana runs off to the bedroom crying.
As Chloe guzzles booze, Jill encourages her to open up. You're family. Because Huh? Because she trapped Cane, then Billy? We're NOT family. Jill gets it - being a bitch won't lessen the pain (and she should know). Give yourself a break - things'll get better. Alas, Chloe feels she's out of 'second chances'.
All business, Chris has a section of the hospital on lock down - all set for arrival. She then tells Heather and Paul that undercover agents are in place. Chance will be in a secured room until surgery. As Heather goes to update Ronan, Chance is rolled in on a gurney (Nina beaming beside it). Paul uncovers Chance to shake his hand and exchange pleasantries.
Heather assures a worried Ronan that Chris has everything under control - time for him to get half a healthy liver and get on with his life.
As Heather caresses Ronan's hand, Chance arrives. With a warm hug, he scolds her for 'digging'.
Chance at his bedside, Ronan thinks it looks like some woodland creature died on his face. Yeah, well - he'll get half a liver and half a beard. Congrats.
The shower running, steam filling the bathroom, Billy and Vikki are admittedly rookies - scared - and very protective. If anyone hurt Lucy, Vikki will rip their lungs out through their nose. She's ours. Yes, she is, Billy agrees (as both admire their baby.
Matty in Daniel's lap, Lily mopes that her kids have no father. But they have an amazing Mom (Daniel lists off the rest of the great family). And Cane will be watching over her.... watching her grow up happy, healthy and loved. What more could a father ask for? Daniel's clearly thinking about his own baby (who's with Vikki and Billy in their steam-filled bathroom).
Jana sees no reason Kevin should stay with her now. Kevin cares about Jana - and knows she wouldn't want to live a lie. Told not to share anymore about 'that', Kevin wants to make the transition easier on Jana (who makes him uncomfortable when she rests her head on his shoulder).
Murphy heads up to bed, leaving Kay to console the mopey Chloe (who's still drowning her sorrows - and ready to give up on Kevin). No, no, no, Kay tuts disapproval.
Back downstairs, the Abbott's are pleased that Lucy's better. Don't die, Vikki implores of Billy. She can't lose him. Daddy's not going anywhere, he assures.
With a quick friendly kiss, Daniel leaves Lily to try get some rest.
Back with supplies, Neil worries about Lily (who's too young to go through this - as he did with Dru).
In their bedroom, Jill talks of funeral arrangements (not sure what Cane would want). Collin's wedding night isn't going exactly as he planned. Sorry too, he gets in bed to spoon Jill (who talks of everything being OK - eventually).
Nina's amused at seeing Chris 'in action', bossing her best agents around. Nothing will go wrong. Nina's grateful - her sons are in one place (and it's all because of Chris).
Ronan wheels his IV pole into Chance's room - boy did you blow it (you should be out drinking beer). And as the brothers start playing card (and exchanging insults), Paul and the giddy Heather creep in to observe. Joining them, Nina scolds her sons for not resting (but couldn't look more proud or happy).
Next: You set Kevin free! Jana demands. Get OUT of my house, Jana points the way ... If it helps honey, leaving you was the hardest part, Chance (pre op) tells Heather ... How long have you known he's alive? Jill asks Kay. Soon after the funeral. And you never said a word to me, Jill's hurt.
My Thoughts: Not a bad trade - Ronan's gonna lose a girl - but gain half a liver ... Lily thinks them lucky because they still get to hear Daddy's voice (on the good bye video)? Given the number of photos scattered about, you'd think the Ashby's would have plenty of video footage .... Why would Vikki still be in her heels as she carries her baby upstairs? Doesn't anyone kick off their shoes when in the comfort of their own home? ... No wonder Kevin's shrinking away from Jana - she's got morning breath.... Why would Kevin mute the TV but not turn it off before leaving? ... You all lie and cheat, Chloe whines (like she's never done either) .... Nina really found it necessary to announce; it's real - he's alive (while Jill's hugging him)? ... Can't really agree with Nina (that it's 'kinda cool' seeing Chris in action). She's parading about like she's in charge of security for the President. If discretion was so important, why isn't the transplant being done at a private hospital? Oh well - at least we don't have to endure Dr Liv. But where IS she? You'd think she'd be there for young widowed niece (especially since Dru's name's come up so often the past few days) ...Odd how Daniel left the mausoleum's front door ajar - yet it somehow closes itself as we swing back to Kevin and Chloe fighting ... Why does Jill assume that SHE needs to plan Cane's funeral?... Why are the Ashby's always running out of diapers, formula etc.? With twins especially you'd think they'd buy in bulk ... Chloe's going inside because she's cold? Yet it's not cold enough that you can see their breath ... Billy and Vikki both have young children - yet they fumble around like they have no clue what to do with a baby. Good disguise Chance - a beard and a furry hood. If I entered the witness protection program I'd insist on being relocated somewhere tropical. For a guy in the witness protection program, Chance didn't seem to be nervous about folks coming in and out of his hospital room. In fact, I don't think he even noticed Heather and Paul right away ... Murphy thinks it's too late for 'kiddo' to be drinking - yet all GC's babies are awake - the grocery store's open - and it's not too late to call the doctor ...The Abbott's should have asked Kay to summon over the doctor who always makes house calls to the mausoleum... Calling the doctor, they're advised not to take Lucy to the emergency room - because there's likely sick people there. Really? Ya think?
