Alone and lonely, Sharon plunks down her groceries to mope over the engagement ring on her finger. Pick up, pick up, she mutters - then is further devastated by a recorded voice - this number is no longer in service.
In the suite, Deacon scrambles through Nikki's purse, then turns off her phone and unplugs the land line - no way he's lettin' Meggie ruin this for him.
Meanwhile, as the guard leads the single file of inmates back to their cells, Meggie (last in line), stoops down to pick up a hair net - which she ducks into the storage room to put on (and shed her orange jump suit).
When Nikki rejoins him, Deacon suggests a stress free week in the Bahamas. Reluctant to leave the kids, Nikki wonders 'why now'?
Now down to the pink scrubs, Meggie pins the swipe badge on. Deacon, this better work, she mutters.
Arriving at Jack's, Phyllis winces as he hugs her - Kyle (who's at hockey practice) is stronger than he looks. Praised for being such a 'sport' yesterday, Phyllis thinks it'll take some time before Kyle 'warms up' to her. RS's 'editor in chief' is then surprised to hear about Billy's upcoming article; the Abbott's back at Jabot. Showing off the accompanying photo, Jack DOES feel like he won the arbitration (having waited oh so long for Victor to get his).
As summoned, Mike arrives at the jet (with the pre nup) grinning ear to ear. Victor thought it only fitting that he witness his marriage to Diane (as he witnessed the destruction of their first marriage). Good times, Mike chuckles - then thinks it a 'minor detail' that the bride hasn't exactly accepted Victor's proposal. The jet ready to take off, Mike doesn't look nearly as confident as Victor (that the wedding WILL take place tonight).
Oh, there's the bride - telling Nick that she's off to 'an event'. Told Victor's not home, Nick accepts the invitation to come in and wait. Don't let me keep you. No, no, Diane's in no rush - she'd like to clear things up with Nick.
Deacon wants to be like a normal couple - hold hands as they walk along the beach; just 'be'. Nikki agrees - you're right! Let's do it! Hugging, Deacon's the one who looks 'stressed'.
As Meggie files out with the rest of the jail's staff, the guard barely glances at her card as she answers the phone. Outside, Meggie's relief is short lived. She's barely got the hair net off when a guard appears to slap cuffs on - the warden announcing she's off to the State Pen. I've been set up, Meggie claims instantly - tell Deacon Sharp he messed with the wrong woman this time.
On the jet, Mike flashes back to Diane confiding her feelings for another man (as he and Victor go over the pre nup). Questioned on his rush to get married, Victor thinks this marriage will be a wonderful partnership. Knowing he's had a rough few weeks, Mike suggests he take some time - not make life altering decisions. Victor scowls - why the hells would Mike give a damn that he's marrying Diane?
Back at the ranch, Nick claims he's just fine - it's his Dad Diane should be worrying about. You gonna keep shooting me down? A 'concerned' Diane again implies Nick joined the lawsuit because of her. She DOES think there's hope for their father/son relationship. Coming here (to speak to Victor) is admirable. Nick's there to set an example for his kids. He'd never forgive himself if they didn't reconcile before Victor died. Nick's lost so much the past few months, it doesn't feel like he 'won' at all. Pouting, Diane places her hand over Nick's.
Supporting Jack's efforts to regain control of Jabot, Phyllis wishes he didn't have to deal with Tucker. Pouring a scotch, Jack assures he can handle him. This deal's gotta come together fast. Next step? Talking to Nick. Phyllis encourages him to do it now - but tread carefully (Nick's been through a lot lately).
Back at the ranch, Nick extricates his hand - time to leave. Yes - he DOES have to 'rush off' (because Diane turned this conversation into something it's not). Nick doesn't think they CAN be friends (since she's with his father now). Left alone, Diane doesn't look too happy.
Sharon leaves a 'call me' message. I really need your help.
Packed and 'ready to roll', Deacon doesn't think Nikki needs much - they won't be leaving the hotel room ~kiss~ And as he goes to load up the car, Nikki turns her phone on - and immediately gets a call from Meggie (don't hang up!). Her story that she didn't work alone - that someone close to her sent Nikki to 'drinksville', is NOT believed. You wanna find out who - come see me now, Meggie hangs up.
Since the pre nup Mike drew up protects him, Victor claims there's nothing for him to worry about - OK? Diane WILL show. Mike wishes the best to both of them - as a friend. Yeah, well, Victor needs a lawyer right now. And as the 'beautiful' bride arrives, awkward smiles are exchanged as Victor instructs the pilot to take off.
At Sharon's, Paul's asked to go find Adam. Really? The reluctant Paul feels she's better off without him. But poor Sharon can't eat - can't sleep - his phone's disconnected (which leads the clever PI to conclude that Adam's standing by his decision). Or something happened to him! Sharon needs to know her fiance's alive (even if he doesn't come home).
At the tackhouse, Nick signs for a delivery from Connie (Victor's assistant). Taking one box, the courier will get the rest from the van. Opening the box, Nick removes his personal items. Congratulations, he tells himself - you've been fired.
Over champagne, Victor announces that they'll be flying back to GC later tonight. As good a friend as Mike is, Diane doesn't want him along for the honeymoon. I'm crushed, Mike chuckles (then is all business as he explains the pre nup). In the event of a divorce, Diane will receive a cash settlement; $250K per year - capped at 10 years). Can you live with that? Diane's answer is a smile.
Back in the (empty) suite, Deacon's on the phone - are you sure Nikki Newman's not in the dining room? Check again please. Frustrated by the brief note Nikki left, Deacon calls her cell. Picking up the phone Nikki left behind, Deacon snarls - Meggie!
Nikki sits across from Meggie (who assures that what she has to reveal will 'rock Nikki's world').
Dropping by Nick's, Jack spots the box - and hears that Nick's been fired (by courier). Ouch, he sympathizes - then lays it on thick. Nick's in the small club of people who beat Victor. Earning his independence IS a victory. You can do anything you want now. Put any thought into what you wanna do next?
Kyle home, Phyllis (still in pain) assures his Dad'll be home for dinner. It's not up to her if he can have pizza at his friend's, so, sending Jack a text, struggles to converse with Kyle. Jack OK-ing Kyle's dinner plans, Phyllis agrees to give him a ride. And she's NOT 'happy to know' he'll soon be moving back to the ranch (or that Diane and Victor are getting married - and want him to move back to 'be a family'). You don't like me - I don't like you, Kyle lays it out - can you just give me a ride? And as Kyle goes to put his equipment away, Phyllis can't believe what she's just heard.
Diane has one condition; her son be taken care of. Page 3, item 6, Mike's quick to reply. Victor's set up a generous trust (divorce or not). Trusting Mike that it's 'iron clad', Diane signs. The Judge will come aboard once they land. Seems Victor's got it all planned - just like the last time they wed. And as Victor goes to speak to the pilot, Mike asks about her other man. Yes, Diane's sure - Victor's the right man for her.
Chains attached to cuffs (over her jumpsuit), Meggie tells Nikki that she needed outside help. Impatient, Nikki demands a name. Deacon! What are YOU doing here? As Deacon claims Meggie's sick, she claims they go way back. Deacon's the person? hard to tell whether Nikki believes it (though one look at the panicked Deacon should convince her).
Still at Sharon's, Paul ends his calls to say Adam made a cash withdrawal the day he left town - but no activity since then. He ditched his phone on the road - disconnected the number today. He's 'completely off the grid'.
Nick cuts Jack off quickly. Let's not play games, Nick guesses he's there to form an alliance; get a piece of NE. Jack admits it's crossed his mind - we'd make great partners. Like we did at RS? Nick scoffs. No - just you and me, Jack persists. Not interested, Nick has enough problems with Victor - he has no desire to go team up with Jack to go after him.
The mood's jovial as Judge Newton's welcomed aboard the jet. Yup - Diane and Victor plan to 'make this one stick'. As Diane and Victor get their ID in order, Mike gets a 911 call from Phyllis (who gets confirmation when hearing Diane in the background). You're in Las Vegas!?? Phyllis squeals.
Meggie claims that Deacon helped her (offering to help HER become Mrs Newman). Nikki doesn't believe her (or that Deacon was drinking water instead of vodka). Impossible! And when Nikki passed out in Deacon's bed, he called Meggie in to undress her (so that Victor would find them in bed). Meggie flipped the script and went after Nikki is all. Does she really think 'pretty boy' would go after an old lush like her? Shutting Meggie up, Nikki demands the truth from Deacon (who, with glistening eyes, swears his feelings for her are real)
Having agreed to continue his search for Adam, Paul will call Sharon if he finds anything. He's only doing this so she can find closure. Now alone, Sharon weeps over her ring - while Adam saunters into a tropical nightclub - a few stools away from Koa.
Jack didn't mean to offend Nick (who doesn't mind talking to Jack - but not about 'this'). Phyllis knocks before barging in with her big news. Nick's getting a new stepmother. Victor and Diane are getting married as we speak. Nick's horrified - Dad's out of his mind - first he disowns us, now THIS!?
On the jet, Victor takes Diane Jenkins as his wife, lover, friend - promising to not just pretend he's listening to her when she speaks. Segundo will no longer sleep on his bed. The jokes continue - as Diane repeats the vows. Blessed with a second chance, Diane vows to love, comfort and honour Victor; to be his companion. Oh - will not put her cold feet on him in bed. Wow! Diane's impressed with the ring Victor slides onto her finger. Well, I'll be damned, Victor kisses his bride.
Is she telling the truth!? Nikki barks. How would she know about those bottles in rehab?! After Meggie's taken out (to be transported), Nikki continues to shout at Deacon (who loves Nikki - and never meant to hurt her). Don't touch me - you lying son of a bitch!!! Stay away from me!! Running into the hallway, a frantic Nikki calls Nick - I've made a terrible mistake. Blurting out that she's calling Victor, Nikki gets the second bomb dropped on her - Victor eloped in Vegas - with Diane. Stunned, Nikki'd likely be on the floor if she wasn't leaning against the wall.
Next: I already packed my stuff, Kyle announces. You're leaving tonight!? Jack's shocked ... G-worm's bartender pours vodka into a glass. You sure you wanna take that drink? he asks. Phyllis at his side, Jack snarls at Victor - Our arrangements with Kyle are none of your business. Victor (with Diane) disagrees - they are now. Get used to it.
My Thoughts: It's really no wonder the genre of 'daytime serials'; is fast becoming extinct. Is it THAT hard (or more costly a production) to inject SOME realism? I don't know how anyone in the legal or medical field tolerates the inaccuracies. Sure, we watch for 'escapism' - but Meggie's escape must have anyone who knows anything about jail howling with laughter. I invision cons huddled in communal rec rooms across North America peeing their jumpsuits (cause they sure as hell aint' sayin' 'What a great idea. Why didn't WE think of that?) *Getting off my soapbox now*..... How archaic is Walworth? Swipe cards are visually inspected (unless the phone rings)? No thumbrint or retina recognition? The storage room isn't locked. Hair nets are conveniently left on the floor. The guard doesn't do a head count when moving cons around? ... Where is *pause* Kyle? Phyllis asks (by Kyle, she means 'that little bastard'). Yeah - we get it Kyle - you don't like Phyllis (understandable) - but if you're gonna ask her for a ride, would it kill you to say 'please'? What an unpleasant/rude little boy. Jack's missed numerous opportunites to teach the child some respect. And if Kyle's deliberately injuring woman at this age, I shudder to think how he'll treat his girlfriends ... Why in the world would Diane marry Victor - when it's clearly her future step son she prefers? Won't family gatherings and holidays be so much fun! The pre nup has no clause that gives Diane nothing if she cheats? (and maybe paying if she cheats with family members)? .... Diane thinks Nick's 'friends' are congratulating him on his win? Why yes - they're lined up around the block to shake him down shake his hand... Knowing a bit about the courier business, I chuckled at how shoddily wrapped Nick's delivery was. I wrap my kids lunchtime sandwiches tighter than that ... Back to Meggie - Chris Angel's chains are tighter than that when he goes in a tank of water upside down ... There's no guard monitoring Nikki's visit. And why would an inmate who's just attempted to escape even be ALLOWED visitors? Especially the man who just set her up! That doesn't arouse suspicion? Deacon SHOULD look worried - his visits to Meggie (including last nights) would be very easy to confirm (though I bet Gloria's open house sign-in guest books are more diligently filled in - and I doubt there's video surveillance). Yes Diane - a LAST likes to be asked. Which is why you weren't ... Great job Paul. Without even leaving his new client's home, he's hit a dead end in the case. Why would Sharon even need to hire Paul? Didn't she single handedly find a dead woman on the side of a volcano thousands of miles away? Paul's only doing this so Sharon can 'find closure'? Paul couldn't find his ass with both hands. Shouldn't Paul be looking for Adam because that's his JOB? Nina looks like she enjoys a dinner out every now and then ... Poor Nikki. She's so hurt I almost forgot she cheated on 'pretty boy' BEFORE knowing he was in cahoots with Meggie. Odd that the guard who opens the door for Nikki (who runs out screaming like a banshee) doesn't show any concern for her wellbeing or safety. No curiosity - not even a 'shut the hell up'. Doesn't it cross his mind that the ex con mighta assaulted her or sumthin'?.... Nice that the bride vows not to put her cold feet on Victor - 'what else can a man ask for' indeed? How about not sleeping with the groom's son? ... You moving Nick? Yeah right Jack. You of all people should know a grown up son's place is at Daddy's. Can't imagine why Nick's surprised that he's been fired. Did he think he'd be named NE's employee of the month? And really, how hard would someone work when they've got $500 mil coming. I'm guessing one's heart just wouldn't be in it anymore.... Yes Nick - Victor's out of his mind - imagine a father 'disowning' the kids who swindled 1.5 billion outta him. The nerve. Note to Nick. Don't bother unpacking the boxes. And don't be too shocked if an eviction notice comes next... Of COURSE Nick's not one to sit around and 'count his money'. He doesn't have nearly enough fingers and toes.
