At home, Billy (Lucy in his lap) plans a picnic for his girls (after he packs up the rest of Jana's things). Vikki's not so sure it's a good idea - what with all the press (and the bombshell he dropped re: Daniel being Lucy's father). It'll be a good day, Billy assures.
At CL's, Lily's worried about Abby (who's upset that Daniel confided in HER). Daniel fears things are about to get even messier - no way his Mom's gonna let it go (now that she knows Lucy's his). Again Lily isn't sure SHE'S the one Daniel should be talking to. No - not Abby - call a lawyer.
Joining Phyllis at the club. Mike's shocked to hear that Daniel's baby is none other than Lucy Abbott. Grabbing his phone, Phyllis won't allow Mike to call Lauren. Once this goes public, there's no turning back.
Finding Sharon raking hay, Sam's happy to hear Fanny's doing well (and gives her his old laptop - so she can connect with the outside world, IF she wants).
In the interrogation room, Leslie informs Adam that DA Walsh won't even consider making a deal (or grant bail to a flight risk). Unconcerned with the 'serious' prison time he faces, Adam has a plan in motion - and is confident he'll be outta there in time for dinner.
At the ranch, Devon and Noah discuss promo photos and the need for Noah to get back to New York. Victor and Nick arriving, Devon offers handshakes, condolences - and a farewell hug for Noah. Victor then updates on the letters Sharon left for Noah and Faith (which Adam refuses to hand over unless Noah drops the charges against him).
Rafe (now with Lily and Daniel) is updated on Lucy's paternity (and that Daniel wants the Abbott's to give her everything he can't). He doesn't want his Mom to rip the family apart (because of her own desire to raise the kid). Rafe's advice? Sign over his parental rights to the adoptive parents.
Mike can't possibly keep this from his wife - she's crazy - YOU know that. Don't tell her yet - especially over the phone, Phyllis insists. Learning that Daniel's known for a long time, Mike realizes he was right - Daniel DID let Daisy escape in Canada. This is my son's child - she belongs with US, not THEM. The adoption was illegal. Tearing up, Phyllis knows the Abbott's love Daisy (and have given her a great home). But - she needs Mike in her corner - as a friend and lawyer (which she may soon need). Mike can't represent Phyllis without telling Lauren. And he doesn't want Phyllis 'charging' over to the Abbott's. And as Phyllis does just that, Mike gets a call from Victor (who needs him to come to the ranch asap - about Sharon).
Sam sets Sharon up online - but don't thank him just yet (molasses runs uphill faster than this old laptop). Now alone, Sharon decides against checking her email (which could be traced) - so searches name on Faceplace.
Still in the interrogation room, Leslie disapproves of Adam's 'emotional blackmail' (withholding the letters to Noah and Faith). Her son all but told her to go to hell, Adam reminds. Anyway - that's his plan (and Leslie's to expect the charges to be dropped).
We can't give in to him, Nick strongly disapproves of Adam holding a mother's last words to her children hostage. Noah agrees - he can 'deal' - but what about Faith? Mom's words will be the only thing she'll have. OK - Nick will go check to confirm that Adam's telling the truth about these letters. As he leaves, Victor advises Nick not to give Adam a thing - until he knows these letters are for real.
Seconds later, Nick's assuring Adam that Noah will drop the charges IF these letters are real. Adam's no fool - drop the charges THEN he'll hand over the letters.
Sharon's Memorial Page includes some touching tributes to the wonderful mother. But she's troubled to read one not so glowing comment - ' a fitting end to a disgusting human being'.
Rafe maintains that Daniel signing his rights over to the Abbott's is the most effective weapon against Phyllis (should this end up in court). Draw up the papers, Daniel's ready. Wait - hello - Lily wants to discuss it first. And after Rafe excuses himself, she cautions Daniel to think it over.
Having packed and piled up Jana's boxes, Billy has no sympathy for her (while Vikki thinks there may be an explanation; she was sick or sumthin'). When Phyllis arrives, Vikki immediately guesses - OMG - you know.
No letters = no deal, Nick stands firm. Guess the visit's over then, Adam jumps up to announce. Doris has seen the letters, Adam lectures Nick on 'doing the right thing'. Nick claims this isn't about them - it's about two kids who deserve to see their mother's last words to them. He loves his kids way more than he hates Adam (that's the only reason Nick's giving in to his sick demands).
Mike at the ranch, Victor wants Sharon's will expedited - before Adam gets out of jail (which may be soon). Good luck finding Kevin, Noah chimes in. On his way out, Mike lets the DA in (to hear the charges against Adam are to be dropped in exchange for the letters). That's how despicable a man he is. Noah assures they DO want Adam locked up - but their mother's letters (all they have left of her) are more important. Getting a call from Nick, Victor announces the deal's been made. Clearly not happy about it, Walsh will make the call.
Daniel doesn't see what there is to think about. He may not want to be a Dad right now - but what about down the road? 1,5,10 years from now? The Abbott's could move Lucy half way around the world. Don't sign away your only child, Lily implores.
Vikki, a tight hold on Lucy, is told that Phyllis figured it out on her own (Daniel didn't tell her). Billy's known since Sharon's funeral but didn't get a chance to tell Vikki until the kids were found. Claiming to understand how hard this is for Vikki, Phyllis asks to hold Lucy; just for a second. Reluctantly, Vikki hands her over to her emotional grandma (who gushes briefly then quickly hands Lucy back). OK - we're adults - friends - we can figure this out, Phyllis is sure the Abbott's understand that Lucy needs to be with her family. It's the right thing to do. But when a relieved Vikki thanks her, Phyllis clarifies the misunderstanding - I meant her 'real' family. Lucy IS with her real family, Billy replies.
Lucy now down for a nap, Phyllis refuses to leave (while Billy insists she does). Vikki thought of Lucy's biological parents as nameless, faceless people who wanted a better life for their daughter. To find out it's someone they know - who wants to take her, it's .... awkward, hard, Phyllis knows (reminding that her son was taken away as a toddler). A teary Vikki explains the bond Lucy's formed with her new Mom and Dad. Again, Phyllis understands - but Lucy's young enough to adapt. That's enough - Billy wants Phyllis to leave.
Daniel insists that signing away his parental rights is the only way to keep his Mom from screwing things up for Lucy. And when Lily talks about how hard she and Cane fought to have babies, Daniel WANTS that kind of parent for Lucy - who'd sacrifice anything for her (as Cane did). And when Rafe returns, Daniel doesn't need more time - let's do it.
Back in the interrogation room, a disapproving Leslie congratulates Adam for once again beating the system. He better know exactly where those letters are - because the DA's personally escorting him to retrieve them.
Online, Sharon continues to read - 'can you believe she was going to marry that monster? Maybe now that poor baby can grow up in peace.' 'Sharon Newman was the worst kind of trash - good riddance to a whack job'. Stifling her sobs as Sam delivers breakfast, Sharon asks him to leave (so she can swipe tears and read more).
On the CL's patio, a guilt ridden Noah worries about what's in the letters (based on his last conversation with his Mom). Devon would have given anything for a message from Dru (before she died). You'll handle it, he assures.
At the club, Adam (with Nick, the DA and Victor) picks up a plaque (In appreciation of Sharon Newman - for her generosity to the GCAC Children's Program, in Memory of Cassie). The letters are taped to the back of it. Grabbing and opening them, Nick verifies Sharon's handwriting. Beat it and stay the hell away from my family, Nick snarls at Adam (who bids his 'big brother' a cheery farewell and saunters off for a drink - to celebrate his freedom). Victor agrees to give the DA copies (to close the case file) - once they've had a chance to read them.
Sam back, he and Sharon exchange apologies (for earlier). He then introduces Piper. The child who lives next door is there to visit her lamb. Nice to meet you, 'Sheri' shakes the hand of a very withdrawn young girl.
Sitting on the ranch staircase, Noah reads his mother's letter (all about how she let him, and others, down - blah blah - go back to New York - be amazing - you're not responsible - don't blame yourself - it was a joy to have you in my life - love Mom) ~sniffle~
Meanwhile, in the living room, Nick has Faith on his knee and he too reads - you're better off with your Daddy now blah blah - Mommy will always love you. 'See Mommy'? Faith babbles. And as Noah sits to place an arm around his Dad, Victor watches sadly.
Phyllis can't believe the way Billy's acting - he should be more understanding (after what happened to Ashley). The way I'M acting? Billy reminds that SHE'S not Lucy's mother - Daisy's a fugitive - Daniel has no interest in raising a child. Yeah, well - Phyllis DOES have an interest. Really? Or will you hire a full time nanny - while you chase after the hottest story? Vikki argues. You just lost custody of your own son, Phyllis reminds. We BOTH did - the difference is Vikki wasn't declared an 'unfit mother'. Do you really wanna go there Phyllis? Yeah - Phyllis does. Door open, Daniel walks in. Not happy, he glares - wondering what his Mom's doing there.
Mom forgave me, didn't hate me, Noah's relieved. Mom loved you - you have nothing to feel guilty about, Nick assures. Noah knows his Dad hated letting Adam go - but it was so worth it - thank you.
As Sam watches on, Sharon encourages Piper to bottle feed Fanny (in her arms).
Over his drink at the bar, Adam reads Sharon's plaque. 'To you babe', he tips his glass to the heavens. Victor comes along - since the only people who believed in Adam are dead - it's time for him to leave town. Knowing that's what Victor wants, Adam plans to stick around. And as he takes a call, Mike quietly tells Victor they have a problem (a codicil Sharon added to her will). Codicil? Adam's apparently getting the same news. And as Mike goes on to tell Victor that Sharon left Adam her house, Adam (on the next bar stool) is thrilled; The house? You serious? I can't be evicted? You just made my day, Adam thanks Leslie (then wastes no time needling Victor. See you back home Dad).
At the ranch, Nick gives Walsh copies of the letters. Frowning at the papers, Walsh thinks the phrasing indicates Sharon's death might not have been an accident after all. Sharon did NOT kill herself! Nick snaps angrily - please don't mention it again - to anyone! But left alone, he doesn't look so sure.
At CL's, Lily wonders if Devon ever thinks about his Dad (a friend of hers is thinking of signing away his parental rights). Devon's all for it - if the child ends up in a better home. Lily just hopes her friend's making the right decision.
Back at the Abbott home, there's disagreement over whether Phyllis is there to 'see' or 'take' Lucy. What are those papers? Phyllis is horrified when Daniel signs away his parental rights. You can't do that! I just DID - now back off! This is NOT over - and Phyllis is never EVER backing off on this!
Next: Police! Anybody here? Jana (gun to Kevin's head) hide in the old daycare place ... Neil tells Sophia - I want Malcolm to be the father of this child more than you think - but if it isn't, I'm gonna tell him ... So - what are you gonna do? Sue him for full custody, Chloe tells Lauren (Gloria listening in the background).
My Thoughts: Never mind Victor not mentioning Sharon's letters to Nick - why didn't Doris mention them (when Nick and Noah went to visit her - or at the funeral even) ... Um - Phyllis wasn't exactly the one to 'find' Daniel's baby - or 'figure it out on her own' ... Odd that Phyllis' argument didn't include her threatening to alert the authorities (she knows the adoption wasn't legal) ... Why is Mike telling Phyllis that his wife is 'crazy'? (given all she's been through Lauren's saner than both Mike and Phyllis) ... Took you long enough (Adam must be joking - either Nick tele-transported himself - or the jail house is located right next door to the ranch) ... Adam has some nerve - how can he (with a straight face) preach to Nick (or anyone else) about 'doing the right thing'? Even his own lawyer accused him of emotional blackmail ... Good thing the club's janitorial staff don't dust much - or they'd have discovered the letters. I wonder when Adam found the time to attach them to the plaque ... Billy 'didn't get a chance' to tell Vikki (that Daniel was Lucy's father)? Surely he coulda found the time - if he wanted to ... Nice to see that Faith is now being played by a girl (who's just as adorable, if not a tad chattier, than the previous Faith) ... WTH would the DA want the letters Sharon wrote to her kids? To piece together her 'final moments'? Sharon's final moments weren't spent penning letters to her kids - but behind the wheel of a car ... How could Sharon checking her email be traced? ... With the body accidentally cremated, why would the case not be closed already? They should be glad the Newman's aren't suing whomever made this 'accident' (especially if it wasn't Sharon's wish to be cremated) ... Why is Daniel just walking into the Abbott home? The door being unlocked doesn't mean it was 'open' (though note HE leaves it wide open). You'd think that a couple who'd just had 2 kids kidnapped - and the kidnapper still on the loose, would keep their front door locked ... I don't get Phyllis' reasoning (that Billy should be more understanding towards HER - because of Ashley). Ashley had a baby she loved ripped from her arms. If anything, that would only make Billy more understanding towards VIKKI. That said, Vikki shouldn't really be judging Phyllis for hiring a full time nanny. She hired the nutty Jana (and she doesn't even HAVE a job).
