Victor handcuffed to a chair, Mike grumbles congratulations - on worldwide headlines. Exactly as Victor wanted it.
At Jack's, Ashley's also waving around the newspaper - how's Kyle taking the news? Jack's furious - a man his son idolized confessed to killing his Mom! He and Ashley strongly disagree, however, on whether Victor's capable of murder.
On the patio, Nick grumbles about reporters calling him. On cue a pesky reporter comes along firing questions - but is quickly sent scurrying off. Vikki reports that Billy won't be covering the story - not that she cares. But if we kids don't support Dad, who will?
Oh look - it's Sharon - at the club asking Avery for help. Showing the headline, she wants Avery to do for Victor what she did for HER (certain of his innocence and unwilling to watch him go to prison).
Mike still thinks there's a better way - even IF it were true, he could build a case; extenuating circumstances etc. I killed Diane - that's it, Victor growls. Do not let anyone hear you say I didn't do it - that clear!?
At the station, Walsh is gloating - the police commissioner's a happy man. Ronan, however, isn't buying Victor's confession - there's more to the story.
Served OJ, Nikki thanks the simpering/concerned maid - then eyes the booze when she goes to get the door. Deacon saunters in - oh how he loves Nikki's voice. She gets down to business - what did he see in the park? Bonnie again gets the door - Kay gives her attitude - then Deacon (who can take a hike). What's going on with Victor? Kay demands to know.
Victor doesn't give a damn about NE's stock price - Mike's to do his job. You can't do this! the lawyer persists. Mike dismissed, Adam takes his seat. Unimpressed that Nick wants back into NE, he basically orders Victor to handle it if he wants his confession corroborated.
Forget Dad - Vikki wants to focus on Mom. Although horrified to hear that Nick's going back to NE, she doesn't trust Adam either.
Adam knows damn well how huge and diversified NE is - there's plenty of room for him AND Nick, Victor points out. Adam admires loyalty to the good son (who's NOT loyal). But - if he's to deliver, he can't be undermined. Victor won't discourage any of his kids from rejoining NE - but Adam WILL be in charge. Victor better make sure everyone's clear on that then. Victor's clear on another thing - if Adam fails him, there'll be hell to pay.
Sympathizing with Nikki's stress, Kay learns that Vikki hasn't seen Victor - nor can she believe that he killed Diane. Is that what NIKKI believes?
Shrugging off Ronan's suspicion, Walsh only had circumstantial evidence against Nikki - perhaps Ronan's just lingering on this case to stick around GC. Mike interrupts - when will his client be formerly charged? After Walsh leaves to get on it, Ronan guesses that even (and especially) Mike doesn't believe Victor's conveniently timed confession.
Jack gives Abby's tour rave reviews - then campaigns for BofN - building a legacy for the next generation. Alas, Ashley doesn't think it the right time to make the acquisition.
At the club, Avery reminds Sharon that Victor already has a very competent lawyer - who just so happens to walk in. Sharon jumps him with her 'I won't let Victor go to prison' spiel. Avery can help you. No! No! Mike's even more opposed than Avery.
Ending a call with Reed, Vikki's joined by Kay (who uses the call to pointedly opine that she can only imagine how Vikki would feel if Reed turned his back on her). Vikki would never give her child a reason to do that. When Kay preaches 'united front', Vikki suddenly realizes - Oh God - you don't know. She drops the bomb that Victor's the one who kept Billy away from Delia (and everyone who loves him).
Nikki's scolded for coming back to the prison (and not believing Victor's confession). She was drunk - and doesn't know what happened. Victor DOES. Is Nikki SURE he didn't kill Diane? Victor sounds almost proud - as he boasts that the paralyzing drug Diane was injected with - was found in his safe.
A press conference called at NE, Adam uses big words to announce that he's large 'n in charge (much to Nick's chagrin). He steps in to say his brother will NOT be running the company - that's ALL. After the press files out, they discuss who's got nerve - and who's been handed the reins. Go confirm it with Dad. It's up the board - and Adam can bet Nick WILL be challenging this.
Seated with the ladies, Mike diplomatically states that Victor respects Avery's abilities but he isn't expanding his legal team. There's also a conflict of interest (since Avery's working to free the woman who tortured his wife). Sharon cares not - she won't walk away from Victor - even if he wants her too!
Dear God! Kay's horrified to hear the whole story. It's 'beyond the pale' - even for Victor. How can that man be so selfish.
Victor repeats - he alone killed Diane. How else would he know about the injected drug? See? It's true - I killed her. Go home - be strong for the family. Leave it to me - it'll be alright. Sniveling, Nikki scurries out - flashing back to HER drunken confession (and Victor's promise to make it all go away). Ronan appears - we need to talk - in my office.
Jack continues to hammer away at Ashley. She won't budge - and he won't give up. Getting a call from the school, Jack's told that Kyle got into a fight. I'm on my way - he walks Ashley out.
Though Vikki tries to ignore Deacon, he approaches her to say he's worried about her Mom. Surely, they've got bigger problems to worry about (than him). As Vikki marches back to the patio, a thug pesters Deacon about money he owes.
Visiting Victor, Kay lectures him about playing God - and what's with this ridiculous confession? Mike arrives - to say Victor's arraignment's starting soon. Victor doesn't want a damn suit - nor does he want Nikki or Kay there. He doesn't want the proceedings interrupted. Leave it alone.
In Ronan's office, Nikki asks about the paralyzing drug. Ronan can't discuss the ongoing investigation - then gets back to HIS questions (about the night Nikki left rehab). She blacked out - waking up ashamed, she immediately turned around and went back.
Running into Ashley at CL's, Vikki explains that not seeing her father has nothing to do with his confession. She's not upset about what she may THINK Victor did - but because of what she KNOWS he did.
Not happy to find Deacon at the ranch, Nikki wants to know what he saw - did Victor do it? She's not sure WHAT to believe.
At the courthouse, Sharon's still vowing to stand by Victor - and will pay Avery to watch the hearing. This one's on the house - Avery has a feeling it'll be worth seeing.
Yes, both Mike and Walsh are fine with the Judge's media black out. How does Victor plead? Guilty. Ronan stands to interrupt - and over Walsh's protest, introduces himself as lead investigator. Having serious reservations about Mr Newman's guilt, he claims the evidence points to at least one other person.
With Kyle upstairs icing his black eye, Jack's on the phone with Rafe. He wants the custody document Victor's been waving around voided by a Judge - so that Kyle won't know about it - or have to spend a night under that man's roof.
Ashley's also horrified to hear of Victor's manipulation - how could he do that to Delia - and his own daughter? Now understanding why Vikki wants nothing to do with her father, Ashley offers her a job at Jabot - to create a new line that'll go toe to toe with the BofN line? Perfect right? Vikki doesn't look so sure.
Putting his phone away, a smug Nick boasts that an emergency board meeting has been called. THEY'LL decide who's running this company. Fine - but until then, it's Adam. Not for long, Nick's sure.
Outside the club's Founder's room, Kay goes against Victor's orders (leaving Nikki a message that he's being arraigned this very minute). Meanwhile, Nikki's begging Deacon for details. If he told anyone what he saw in the park, it'd destroy her family.
After hearing Ronan, the Judge disagrees with Mike and Walsh - she will not accept Victor's 'guilty' plea (pending further investigation and an evidentiary hearing). She can - and did - do that.
Next: When am I gonna make an honest man outta you? Vikki has her arms wrapped around Billy (who thinks it might be a little too late for that)... Do you really believe that your father's the killer?! Sharon asks Adam .... Nikki visits Victor - I know what happened - and I know what I have to do, she says.
My Thoughts: Ugh - I'm getting awfully tired of Sharon's 'I've gotta support Victor spiel'. When Nikki hears it, she's gonna either hit the bottle - or Sharon's head (with a rock of course) ... Inadvertently funny line of the day goes to Victor: 'You were drunk, remember'? he tells Nikki (duh Victor - that's why she DOESN'T remember - remember?) ... Victor doesn't do much right - but he sure produces handsome sons. This power struggle is gonna be great - the drama - the suspense - Adam and Nick in their well tailored suits ... If Vikki wants to focus on helping Mom, why is she hanging around the coffee house? Maybe she could go to the ranch - and put away all the tempting bottles of booze on display .... Mike working alongside Avery is the only conflict of interest? It's not a conflict of interest that Mike also represented the deceased - his pal Diane? And now her killer? .... The 'whole staff' is worried about Mr Newman, Bonnie simpers. I guess they are - he might not need a fully staffed ranch if he's in prison for decades. Why is Kay snapping at Bonnie? Her being so old that she's been coming to the house since before Bonnie was born gives her license to be rude to her? .... Love the upside down bottle of Heinz Ketchup on the club's table. I thought it was a classier place than that ... Isn't anyone (besides me) concerned that Nikki left rehab - and was drunk to the point that she blacked out - but still managed to rent and drive a CAR?! ... Who knew a Judge could reject a plaintiff's plea? Especially when both the defendant, prosecutor and charged are in agreement ... Jack doesn't want Kyle to know about the document granting Victor custody of him? Isn't he already aware? Why else would Victor be talking about taking care of Kyle? And if it's successfully squashed, it certainly wouldn't be the most traumatic thing in Kyle's traumatic life. I wouldn't say Kyle idolized Victor - he was just impressed with his wealth and cool stuff (like a pond for skating on) Nick isn't answering ANYMORE questions today? Like he's answered ANY? .... Sharon obviously got good divorce settlements from both Nick and Jack - she hasn't worked in eons - yet is able to pay Avery's lofty retainer - even paying her for her time to watch Victor's arraignment ... Ronan asks Walsh for 'just a minute' to go over the evidence again. Huh? A minute? He's been agonizing over that whiteboard for months. |
