You can’t possibly be encouraging Claire to provoke Dad, Vikki scolds. Nikki thinks Claire should live her life as she sees fit. She’ll be damned if she’ll have her granddaughter tip-toeing around major life decisions because she’s afraid of stirring the hornets nest. Claire appreciates the support and sees both their points. She’s still hopeful that her grandfather will come around. This is all about his hatred for Jack; Kyle is NOT Jack. Nikki thinks Claire should stand up to Victor – giving in to his demands will only embolden him and encourage more attacks.
Daniel got cold feet, Billy worries he might also lose Phyllis – they’re a package deal. Sally suggests he might have to go to Plan B. Billy doesn’t have a Plan B.
At the park overlook, Daniel’s sorry he screwed this up but just doesn’t see it happening. Phyllis thought he wanted this. Daniel doesn’t know what he wants – all he can do these days is put one foot in front of the other. Phyllis thinks the job would give him something to focus on besides his pain. Daniel thought time would make everything better but it hasn’t. Heather’s gone, he tears up.
Nobody holds a grudge like Victor, especially against an Abbott, Nikki knows all too well. Claire wants to believe it’s possible – grandpa wants me to be happy. Don’t hold your breath – it would take something monumental to change his mind. He came around on Dad and even gave him a job – and that gives Claire hope. Nikki plays devil’s advocate – waiting for your grandfather to see the light might cause problems in your relationship. You may lose Kyle. Claire doesn’t know what to do.
There’s nothing you can do – I have to figure it out on my own, Daniel mopes. Having a place to go, a reason to get up in the morning – this job could give you purpose, Phyllis continues. This is YOUR purpose. Daniel can see his Mom’s exactly where she needs to be.
Back at the GCAC, Sally asks Billy who else could hit the ground running – there must be someone he could trust to replace Phyllis. You, he replies.
Me? Sally’s flattered but her career is in fashion. If there’s no one else you trust to run the company, do it on your own. Billy needs to find a partner who shares his passion and vision.
Vikki and Nikki agree that Claire’s been put in an untenable position. It’s wrong on every level. Defy him. Vikki will support her but it won’t be easy. Claire won’t break up with Kyle – she’s falling in love with him. Nikki and Vikki exchange a look of surprise.
There’s better options than Phyllis – but Sally does have to admit that she’s loyal. She asked me to convince you (Billy) not to work with Dumar. It’s one thing we agree on – he can’t be trusted. Phyllis returns.
Phyllis asks to speak to Billy privately but he sees no need for that – Sally’s up to speed. Daniel’s not OK – Phyllis needs Billy’s help.
When Daniel arrives at CL’s, Tessa asks him for a 5 letter word for strips on a club. Bacon (he did that crossword last night) You seem kinda down, Tessa offers to help. Daniel doesn’t know how to get back on track.
Claire’s never been in love before. No, she and Kyle haven’t used the L word – but he feels the same way. Claire suddenly knows what she needs to do. What do you need to do? Kyle appears to ask. Not just me – we, she smiles up at him.
