Back on the train, Nick scolds Phyllis for setting Victor off (by saying that Cane’s his equal) He’ll have a talk with Cane himself – will you two be OK? Phyllis doesn’t plan to scratch Sharon’s eyes out – and Sharon won’t pull out Phyllis’ hair. We’ve been through too much for awkward small talk about the weather – but what do we talk about? Sharon shares what’s on her mind – it’s a stupid idea for Phyllis to trust Cane.
Happy to run into Victor (in the maze, of course) Cane apologizes and informs that he stocked up on tequila) Victor doesn’t care – he just wants to get the hell out of there.
Cane won’t back off, Damian offers to send him the message – I’m a team player. Having wanted to kiss Lily since first laying eyes on her, he won’t pretend he didn’t enjoy it but wishes it wasn’t an act for Cane’s benefit. Lily confesses that she’s wanted to kiss Damian too.
Not ever Aristotle Dumas can control the weather, Cane thinks the cell towers might be off the grid – try to relax. Knowing Victor won’t sell Chancellor, he has nothing up his sleeve – you have my word. When Nikki appears, Cane leaves Victor to update his grumpy wife that they aren’t getting out of there for a while.
Sharon doesn’t think Phyllis should trust Cane. I hope you’d advise me to hit pause if I was betting my future on someone so deceptive. Cane seems different – something feels off. Phyllis finally looks concerned.
Nick doesn’t have to go too far before running into Cane. He’s baffled by his actions; hiding all these years only to put yourself under a microscope now? Sometimes things really are as simple as they look, Cane replies. Nothing about this is simple and only makes us trust you less, Nick tells him.
Cane’s not surprised by Nick’s reaction but simply wants to come home. There’s that word again, simple – Nick will do whatever it takes to protect his family. He’s waiting for Cane to tell him that he’s got nothing to worry about. See you at lunch, Cane saunters off.
Victor has a feeling Cane’s trying to prove himself a worthy opponent. Is he? Nikki wonders. Victor thinks they should stick around to find out.
The only thing Phyllis is afraid of is going broke and not being able to dig her way out of this hole she’s been in. Why do you care? Because we’re …. friends? Aren’t we? Sharon thought they were. You’re trying to protect me, Phyllis is moved to tears – thank you. She does see the danger signs but also sees opportunities. This doesn’t remind you of what Martin did to us? Sharon points out that Cane isn’t treating us like lab rats but he has put us in the middle of an actual maze.
Nick and his parents talk to Lily by the pool. Yes, she’s as surprised as everyone else. Cane lied to me like he did everyone else (like you did) It’s hard to know who to trust. Nikki couldn’t agree more.
We’re trapped – even with champagne and caviar. No, Sharon isn’t having panic attacks but the similarities between this and what Martin did to them are concerning. Phyllis suggests Cane hid his identity to protect his kids or not be judged by everyone in GC. If Cane IS playing some kind of game, Sharon thinks Phyllis can outsmart him. Maybe we are learning to get along, they exit with their arms around each other.
Lily doesn’t know what’s coming next but we need to watch their backs. Victor doesn’t want Cane to come to GC to disrupt their lives.
In the train, Cane assumes Damian must wonder why he fired him. Damian’s landed somewhere better, at Winters, with Lily. Cane advises him to think twice about taking the job – and stay away from Lily. I don’t answer to you anymore, Damian leaves.
Next Week: Maybe he wanted to get us all here so we’d scramble around to figure out what he’s up to as a distraction. If that were the case, and I knew all about it, why would I reveal it to you? Amanda replies…. I trust you managed to keep our little arrangement under the radar? Cane asks. Holden promises that no one suspects a thing … I needed to see you both again. I’m so glad you made it back in time, Cole tells Vikki and Claire. In time for what? In time to say our goodbyes.
