You want to trade information on your personal life for Cane’s business plans? Amanda can’t discuss his plans. Cane must be making it worth your while, Lily suspects Amanda’s been offered a role in his empire.

Damian knows it’ll be hard for Lily to get over Cane’s lies. They discuss the Count of Monte Cristo – it seemed like a good fit when you hired me. That man was wrongfully accused, tortured – then he got his hands on a fortune, changed his name and face to get revenge on his enemies. That’s what all this is about, Damian suspects – revenge.

Cane’s not your friend – he wants to hurt the people you’re close to, Sharon appeals to Phyllis (who scoffs at Cane being responsible for the weather) Why should she support people who don’t support her? Phyllis needs a job and a paycheck. Cane won’t get away with it – he’ll go down and if you’re tied to him, so will you, Nick warns.

Amanda’s loyalty can’t be bought, she’s fond of Lily but respects Cane. She likens their relationship to that of Victor and Mike’s. Lily understands how much Devon hurt her because Daniel cheated on her while she was away taking care of Mattie. We have that in common – betrayal. Cane might be coming after the company my father created. Cane’s not coming after Winters, we aren’t trying to hurt anyone, Amanda marvels that Phyllis is the only person willing to take Cane at his word. That should tell you something, Lily marches off into the maze.

Lost in the maze, Phyllis calls out – Carter? Please, someone help me. You’ll do, she’s relieved to run into Jack and Diane. The maze now feels like a trap.

Phyllis is turning her back on decades of history, Nick whines – to hell with me and my family, Summer’s family. Needing to go back for something she forgot, Sharon will catch up with him at the bar. When she and Lily join Nick, Amanda’s surprised by his negativity, thinking he and Cane had shaken hands and called a truce. That was just to pacify him – Nick doesn’t trust Cane – at all.

Damian and Cane bond over losing their fathers. Seeing a parent sealing with health issues can really mess with your head. No, Cane’s not the ‘Count’ looking for revenge – this chapter is about redemption, not revenge.

Amanda’s mad that nobody’s buying Cane’s act, Lily tells Nick (who wonders why she’s such a Cane-apologist) This whole thing is one big show, he thinks. Maybe Phyllis trusts Cane because she knows more than we do but he sees nothing but smoke and mirrors. Bidding Lily and Amanda good night, he’s going to the bar.

Jack and Diane are lost too – is there any chance the staff moved the maze around? They and Phyllis split up – it’s time Cane let us out of this maze (and that’s who Jack goes looking for)

You OK? Cane tells a ‘woody’ Damian to take a seat – catch your breath. You’re not trying to poison me because of Lily are you? Damian takes a seat to ask. Not unless I’m trying to take us both out (Cane’s drinking the same stuff) Continuing to bond over having a sick parent, Damian concludes that the brother he didn’t know he had is helping the mother he walked away from. Cane thought he was giving Lily space – that he’d have more time to make amends. He’s feeling fuzzy himself. Oh look – someone’s watching from behind the shrubs – a black-leather gloved hand grips a knife.

Damian doesn’t feel right. Something’s wrong, we gotta go back, Cane isn’t feeling well either – can you walk? asks as he grabs Damian’s shoulder. The mystery person in the bushes, grips the knife.

Lily doesn’t like this – where are Damian and Cane? They have a lot to cover – a lot to untangle – good luck finding them, Amanda stomps off. Damian? Lily calls out and walks around. Cane? I’m ready to go to the train car now, she looks worried.

Mr Knife’s knife hand is getting twitchy. We have to go, Cane hoists Damian up. I’m going to find someone to help. The mysterious Mr Knife throws the dagger. Damian’s eyes pop open and he collapses in Cane’s arms. Damian? Cane lowers him to the ground; a blood stain spreads across his back – as Phyllis appears to watch in horror.
