Nick updates Sharon that Cane claims he was drugged. Damian must have drank more; he died instantly; Phyllis witnessed it. Chance is interviewing her. Cane’s the only one with a motive – he claims he was the target so will point the finger at someone else – and Nick has a hunch who that someone might be.

Nick suspects Cane will point the finger at his Dad (for rejecting his bid to buy Chancellor) Mike will come to his rescue, Sharon’s also sure that Chance will see right through Cane. Both worry how this will affect Phyllis.

Cane was as shocked as I was, Phyllis tells Chance – there was no conflict between him and Damian. Cane’s not guilty. Vowing to leave no stone unturned, Chance hints that Phyllis might protect Cane to protect her future.

Cane sees Amanda’s point but Damian wasn’t the intended victim – no one could know I’d share my private stash of bourbon with him. Amanda lists why everyone’s frustrated with Cane, but no one wants you dead. Cane wishes he could go comfort Lily; she’s as much a victim as Damian is.

We were laughing an hour before he was killed, Lily again worries about Amy – and Nate (who only just found out he had a brother) While Abby can’t believe Cane’s a murderer, Devon points out that he’s not the person he used to be.

How could you think I’d protect a murderer? Phyllis is indignant. Chance has no reason to trust Phyllis (whose murder he was investigating not too long ago) Maybe you’re lying to me right now. Though Phyllis didn’t see anything, she knows Cane couldn’t have hidden the knife and/or bottle. I was with him the whole time.

Cane and Amanda rule Lily out. Jack? No. Billy? No. And why would the Newmans resort to violence to keep a company they already own? Amanda finds it hard to believe Victor would do it – even for Nikki. Nick’s a hothead – Cane only knows that Damian wasn’t the one who was supposed to die tonight. Confronting Cane on lying about being unable to contact the outside world, Amanda asks – what are you hiding???

Nick feels bad for dragging Sharon along. Now you’re caught up in another murder investigation. Poor Damian, it’s horrible, Sharon pouts. Does it make you think of Heather? Nick worries – and this investigation’s about to get a lot more disturbing.

You and Damian weren’t involved until AFTER you got here, Abby reminds Lily. My Dad or Uncle Jack wouldn’t see Cane enough of a threat to kill him. Devon can’t absolve Damian altogether – maybe he was Cane’s target for another reason – a deeper connection we aren’t aware of.

Devon reminds Lily and Abby that Holden said that Damian has a temper – and Victor said he was looking into Winters before Nate reached out to him. Maybe Cane and Damian had a contentious relationship. Maybe Damian was blackmailing Cane. He’s the victim! Though Lily rejects Devon’s theories, he’ll still keep an open mind – there’s a lot of missing pieces.

Cane could call the local police but doesn’t want some random conducting the investigation; Chance is the best. He has no authority here, Amanda also feels that the local police know the culture and the terrain. Chance is the right person for the job, Cane insists – and he doesn’t like the way Amanda’s looking at him – do you think I killed Damian!?

Phyllis is reiterating her opinion that Cane didn’t kill Damian when Nick suddenly barges in brandishing a bloodied dagger in a baggie. I found this in the bathroom of my sleeping car! Is that what I think it is? Phyllis; eyes widen. Someone’s setting me up! Nick growls at Chance.
