Back on the train, Chance wants to stick to the facts. Cane couldn’t have planted that knife in your room – Phyllis was with him. Maybe he has accomplices; Carter or Amanda, Nick argues. Chance will go search Nick’s car. If you’re not guilty you have nothing to worry about, he’ll go talk to Cane (see if he ‘comes clean’)

Lily flashes back to meeting ‘Dumas’ – then confronting him about his lies and double life. Then Cane professing his love for her. Lily telling him that it’s over – and kissing Damian right in front of him. Chance comes knocking – you up for a talk. You better believe I am.

Nick’s glad to find that his parents are OK. Why wouldn’t we be? they’re puzzled. Cane just made his next move, and it’s a bloody one, Nick reports.

Joining Amanda and Cane in the garden, Phyllis comments that Cane and Amanda ‘falling silent’ isn’t incriminating (she’s being sarcastic) Nick found the murder weapon in his bathroom, she adds. What did he do with it? What any innocent man would do – he gave it to Chance. Nick thinks he’s being framed – and is adamant about by who’s framing him.

Nick tells his parents that Damian was murdered; stabbed in the back with a knife from Cane’s collection – that he (Nick) found in his bathroom. I thought Cane was going to frame you (Victor) but he’s trying to frame me! He has a compelling motive, Victor points out – Lily.

When Chance brings Lily out to the bar-car, she tells him that Damian was a good man who’d been dealing with some revelations but was excited about starting a new life in GC. Interrogating me is a waste of time – there’s only one person here who has a motive to kill Damian – Cane.

Lily was moving on with Damian, Nikki comments. Though believing it a ‘true crime of passion’, Nick plays devil’s advocate; everyone knows I have a problem with Cane and have a temper – and that I warned him I’d protect Chancellor and the family.

Don’t kill the messenger, Phyllis quips – I don’t think you’re a killer but Nick does, she tells Cane. I told them you couldn’t have planted the knife because I was with you. Phyllis won’t watch Nick be framed for murder. Maybe you two have it backwards, Cane suggests that Nick’s the one framing him.

Lily answers Chance’s questions. Yes, Cane wanted to get back together. She told him it would never happen. She believed that’s why Cane killed Damian.

Nick shares his theory. Cane got us all out of GC – has someone making moves on his behalf – frames me for murder in France. Victor wonders why he’d play the long game for six years, then suddenly this? Seems reckless. We need to find out the end-game and who’s playing us.

The Newmans are threatened by my return to GC, Cane thinks Nick tried to kill him but has bad aim. You think Nick planted the knife in his own room? Phyllis balks. He handed the weapon over immediately, Amanda doesn’t think Nick did it. Cane hopes Chance can figure it out. Phyllis thinks they should launch an investigation of their own.

Cane’s guilty, Lily’s sure. Chance can’t see it – Cane accepted that you were with Damian. He amassed a fortune only to throw it all away in a moment of jealous rage? Lily’s convinced it was Cane – someone needs to make him pay for it.

You’re not gonna get away with this! Nick accosts Cane in the maze. That knife was meant for me, Cane swears on his fathers soul that he didn’t plant the knife in Nick’s room. Like Collin had a soul, Nick scoffs. Come at me man to man – you’re gonna wish you were the one who’s dead! he warns.
