On his train, a depressed Cane drinks, flashes back to taking care of his father, reading the letter Victor gave him and a text from the kids telling him to leave them alone. He makes a video – what he has to say must be heard.

Cane’s video is to his ‘miracle’ kids (who cured Lily’s cancer) He needs to explain why he’s done the things he has. One thing that will never change is how much I love you.

Cane blathers on about leaving GC to change himself. He talks about Charlie loving the Count of Monte Cristo. Using the name Dumas made him think of them. He wanted to create something to leave them – I did it for you. He now realizes that he was driven by his ego and insecurities.

Cane admits that his success was intoxicating – I wanted more – to see how far I could go – it became the focus of my life. The lie became my reality; I was convinced Dumas would make me the man I needed to be. Cane will always be sorry for creating the distance. Phyllis appears to eavesdrop.

Cane missed Charlie’s graduation – and should have stayed in LA with Mattie after the fire. You are miracles, so is your Mom. I’d give anything for the three of you. I love you. When Phyllis finally appears . she encourages him to send the message; the love and humility will get through to them. Cane worries it’s too little too late.

** Save this for bedtime. It’s guaranteed to put you to sleep.

After a brief chat about AI being a dangerous technology, Cane lets Phyllis read the letter. He has no idea how Victor got it or how it could affect Arabesque (that’s a question for Amanda) Phyllis sees no problem with ‘Lord Edgerton’ conning Madam D’Leon – she probably had a lot of fun with Collin. Cane mopes about losing his father while building an empire for his kids – building an empire that has cost him his kids. It doesn’t seem worth it.

Your kids will come around, Phyllis thinks Cane should give them and Lily space. Don’t contact her – ever. You broke up a long time ago. Have I become my father? Cane ponders.

Pouring more drinks, Phyllis raves about the man Cane was in Nice – your plan’s inspired – Collin was an amazing man – he gave a sweet old woman the time of her life (and you an inheritance) He lied to you – you lied to your kids – we all lie. Enough of this moral confusion; you’re a good person. Phyllis claims that Cane’s more interesting than when he left town; complicated, slightly miserable (in a good way) We’re ‘business soul mates’. Cane asks Phyllis to leave – come back for dinner. Don’t spiral; we have a lot to do, she says in parting. Now alone, Cane sends his video message to the twins.

A teary eyed Cane flashes back to being at his father’s bedside. Growing weaker, Collin had encouraged his son to go be with his family.

Briefly mentioning how much he loves Jill, Collin tells Cane that Dumas is coming between him and his family – promise me you’ll bury him. An angry Cane throws his glass across the room; it shatters. Phyllis is in the park when Cane calls her to say that he’s changed his mind; the plan is dead ~click!
