Phyllis tells the Abbotts that Cane (a ‘noble’ and ‘wonderful’ man) is putting his business plans on hold until he makes amends to his kids. Have a nice evening (she refuses to engage with Diane further) That leaves Jack to tell Diane that something’s off; it doesn’t feel right to him.

Attempting a ‘rewind’, Kyle and Claire sit down to ignore their full plates of cold Bolognese. Though cheering up briefly when talking about her promotion, Claire promptly calls it a night and turns her head when Kyle tries to kiss her goodnight.

Maybe cane’s playing more games, and, instead of backing off, he’s biding his time to strike, Jack suggests. Passing Amanda on their way out, he warns that if she and Cane make moves against Jabot, they’ll regret coming back to GC. At the bar, Phyllis hands Amanda a martini – Jack just wants to know what Cane’s up to (and so do I)

Cane plays dumb – he has no clue what Victor’s talking about – it’s ludicrous to think that there’s some magic AI that can hack into any company’s finances. Not buying it, Victor adds that Cane hired Phyllis because she’s a skilled hacker.

Over drinks, Amanda slips up by telling Phyllis that she’s not happy about Cane postponing the plan because she put a lot of hard work into it. Phyllis can tell her friend’s lying to her; I’ve put my blood, sweat and tears into this company already, she wants to know how Cane plans to acquire these privately held companies – blackmail? Extortion?

Jack and Diane come home to find Kyle drowning his sorrows. Yes, they told him not to push (but that doesn’t mean they wanted to be right)

When Claire drops by CL’s, Ester suggests something decaf – you look a little tired. She tried to talk me out of espresso, Holden invites Claire to join him for a talk – since they’ll both be up for a while.

Amanda would like to tell Phyllis, but can’t. She’s then updated that Phyllis offered to run the company until Cane fixed things with his kids. Talk to him – it’ll be good for you too. Tell me what the plan is and I can make it happen, she persists.

You didn’t think I’d figure it out, did you? Victor chortles – it’s amazing what AI can do. You’ve got it all wrong – what you’re talking about is dangerous, Cane warns – AI should be used for good. You and I will partner up and use the software to take Jabot from the Abbotts once and for all, Victor’s decided.

Jack and Diane reassure Kyle that Claire just needs some time and space; she’ll come around.

Claire doesn’t feel like talking about it right now and she doesn’t feel like coffee either. What DO you feel like? Holden’s surprised to hear that Claire would like to get drunk (a first for her)

My Thoughts: Ludicrous Line of the Day #1. You look a little tired, Ester says to Claire. Which is hilarious only because Claire’s just walked into GC’s equivalent of Dunkin’ Donuts wearing a full length, spaghetti-strapped, plunging evening gown. Yet, instead of telling Claire she looks beautiful (which she does) or noting that she’s a tad overdressed, Ester chooses to comment that she looks tired … Ludicrous Line of the Day #2 goes to Phyllis – who, with a straight face, tells Amanda that she’s put her ‘blood, sweat and tears’ into Cane’s company – making it the second straight job she’s done so – without so much as having an office, hiring employees, drawing a paycheck – or doing any actual work. It’s surprising Phyllis hasn’t thought to ask her new friend (Sharon) for a job. You’d think Cassidy First TECHNOLOGY (that’s right, Kirsten Inc. made software) could use a computer wiz who’s willing to put her blood, sweat and tears into a job before actually performing said job. On that note, Happy Labour Day!
