No, not Winters. Cane enjoyed power more than he should have and wanted to prove himself. Yes, he did think that would impress Lily and the twins.
Busy-body Ester questions Phyllis about being unemployed; pointing out that things didn’t pan out with Billy – or Cane. Phyllis has decided to bet on herself. Good luck with that, Ester leaves her (Phyllis) determined to rely on herself – and Cane’s AI program is the key.
Sharon wishes she could fix this for Mariah. Me too, Mariah weeps. Both lament her not having a good childhood. I wish you were here to help me, Mariah’s so lost.
Tessa doesn’t want to talk about this anymore tonight. Aria’s with the nanny so she’ll face reality tomorrow. The pals reminisce about putting away decorations last Halloween. OMG – Heather’s been gone a year, Tessa feels like a terrible friend. Daniel will drink with her but first we go upstairs for some food.
Cane achieved a level of success as Dumas – he was on top of the world and wanted to share that with the people closest to him. I wanted to be seen as a businessman, not a con artist (like Collin) But, something was missing; you, Mattie and Charlie. Cane swears to do whatever it takes to convince Lily – what can I do? As Devon and Abby continue to scowl from the bar, Cane asks Lily to make her case for acquiring the AI. Victor and Jack would use it against each other – Jill’s a wild card, she answers. Cane has a new plan – to use the program for good. Lily wants it destroyed and won’t change her mind.
Seated in the dining room for dinner, Tessa’s tipsy but not tipsy enough. Maybe we should call it a night, she stands so quickly, she almost tumbles over. Why did this have to happen? Why did Mariah do this to me? To us? she mopes in Daniel’s arms.
Mariah tells Sharon that Tessa visited; she was kind and patient. Sharon’s supportive and loving but hesitates a beat when Mariah asks her to visit. I need to do this on my own, she rescinds the offer, says I love you and hangs up before Sharon can say ‘I love you too’.
Abby’s done work for the evening and wants Devon to come home (instead of glaring at Cane and Lily) He agrees to trust his wise, beautiful wife and his sister.
Lily wants the AI program immediately so she can destroy it. Consider it done, Cane agrees.
Ester’s heading off on a date, so Phyllis should go to the counter if she wants anything. Phyllis continues to talk to herself as she works on getting Cane’s AI program. Everyone in this town will answer to me. I’ll get everything I deserve.
Clumsily making their way to the staircase, Tessa and Daniel exchange apologies. Tessa thanks Daniel for being such a good friend. When she stumbles, he catches her – and then, surprise, a kiss.
Mariah throws the card on the floor and sobs, head in hands. She’s stunned when Ian Ward (in his minister garb) appears across from her. He can see that she’s in one of her moods – do you feel lost and alone again? he grins.
