With Lily at the club, Malcolm already knows she can’t be a donor. Stephanie knew (because of her old friend Olivia) No, you haven’t let me down. Lily asks if Stephanie will be able to find another donor – do you trust her judgement?
As Audra continues to eavesdrop, Holden explains that a person he trusted kept something major from him. Claire can relate (meaning her Aunt Jordan) My Mom dropped some shocking news on me, Holden continues – my biological father is alive. I just met him. There’s more – he has a daughter – you’ll never guess who it is; Lily Winters. Audra leaves with that info.
Holden tells Claire that his bio-Dad didn’t know about him – he’s Lily’s bio-Dad too. He seems like a decent guy – his head’s spinning too. Claire’s father exceeded her wildest dreams – she hopes that happens for Holden too. Why did your Mom tell you now? Malcolm needs a bone marrow donor. Holden just got tested and should get the results soon.
Malcolm tells Lily that he and Stephanie dated a long time ago – we were both focused on our careers. Her specialty is hematology. She came to offer him a solution. Get ready – this is gonna blow your mind.
Claire assumes Holden will help the guy. It’s hard to say no to saving a life, he thanks her for listening to his rambling and admits he’s struggling with the fact that his Mom kept this secret all these years – what else isn’t she telling me?
Malcolm tells Lily that he has a son with Stephanie he didn’t know about until today. She can’t believe what she’s hearing – are you saying I have another brother?
Someone’s ears were burning, Holden’s phone is ringing. Claire will leave him to take the call. No, he’s not ready – care to take a walk? Claire takes his hand and leads him out of the restaurant.
Stephanie leaves a message for Holden . Knowing he’s angry at her, she has no excuse and won’t offer one – except she thought she was doing the right thing; it didn’t seem to matter until Malcolm’s life needed saving. Secrets always come out, she sigh and can only hope that Holden will open his heart and forgive her. I’m sorry ~click~
Malcolm’s sorry to dump all this on Lily. That’s OK – you just found out. Lily can’t believe she has a half brother. Do you know who it is? Malcolm does; he’s getting tested as we speak. Yes, he’s here in town – you two know each other. Who is it? Lily’s stunned to hear that her half-brother is Holden Novak.
My Thoughts: Malcolm is all Lily ‘has left’? What about Devon and Nate? Or her Aunt Olivia who is never mentioned? (Doctors without Borders must also be doctors without any means of communicating) … How far into their ‘careers’ could Malcolm and Stephanie possibly have been when she got pregnant? It takes what? 8 years to become a phD then another 6 years to become an accredited hematologist (according to the Google machine) Flashing back 30 years, Stephanie was far from her career ‘taking off’ in ’94-’95. If Holden was born in ’96, that’d make him 29/30. Fun fact and not really relevant; Nathan Owens (Holden) is 42, Shemar Moore (Malcolm) is 55 ….. I’m weirdly disappointed that Traci didn’t return Lily’s ‘I love you’. You’re supposed to be the ‘nice’ Abbott! …. When will GC residents learn not to discuss their most sensitive secrets in the most public of places? Of COURSE Audra heard everything … Would it have killed Stephanie to apologize to Malcolm for concealing the fact that he had a son? And it seems rather cold that she sends Holden the clinic location via text!? and it doesn’t occur to either Stephanie or Malcolm to offer to go with him? That’s just plain inconsiderate.
