Kyle’s brought Summer to the rooftop for an evening free of work and their Mothers’ feud. He even has a surprise for her.

When Diane drops by Jack’s office to say goodnight, she hears that his dinner meeting at Society was canceled. I’m just heading there myself, care to join me? The hinge operating Jack’s jaw is stuck in the open position.

Nikki’s summoned Phyllis to the ranch for an update on their plan to get rid of Diane. It was just my first day, Phyllis points out that she’s in the trenches while Nikki’s doing nothing but drinking tea at home. That’s where you’re wrong, Nikki looks pleased with herself.

At CW to see Nate, Elena instead runs into Devon. He’s happy to hear she’s coming to work there but observes that she doesn’t seem to be. Is it still what you want to do??

Thinking it best to speak to Nate away from the office, Lily meets him at CL’s. Yes, she spoke to Devon and would like to hear Nate’s take. He asks how ‘real’ he should be – is he speaking to his cousin or the CEO of CW?

Allowed to open her eyes, Summer’s delighted to see that Kyle’s had a table prepared to remind her of Italy. How sweet and how in love they are.

Diane knows Jack will give her the cold, hard truth – she must show Kyle that she’s worthy of this second chance. Dinner it is, Jack agrees.

Hearing that Nikki’s meeting an LA-based investigative reporter, Phyllis asks if she can meet her too.

Elena is happy to be coming to work at CW but fears that she and Nate are drifting apart. Devon’s sorry to hear it but knows what she means.

Nate respects Devon’s experience but he’s been autonomous so long he’s forgotten how to collaborate. He feels threatened by my ideas (like CW holding their own festivals to showcase their musicians) Lily seems to consider it.

Back on the rooftop, Summer can barely believe her eyes when she spots her Mom and grandmother chatting over drinks on the rooftop. Something’s going on, she warns Kyle.

Sitting in the chair Jack holds out for her, Diane prattles on about trying to strike a balance between coming on too strong and being invisible. Trust your gut; you’re a smart, resourceful woman, Jack gushes until Diane has a confession to make.

It’s none of our business, Kyle thinks there could be any number of reasons Nikki and Phyllis are together. Tonight’s about us. Summer agrees but continues to glance over.

When Talia joins her and Phyllis, Nikki comments that she was approached to do an article about Ashland’s death but that’s old news – the story of Diane’s resurrection is far more interesting, all are in agreement.
